Hi again, I thought I’d start a new thread for this season of SAD 😭. It’s definitely starting to feel autumnal here 🥶.

2023/24 SAD thread | Mumsnet

Hi again, I’m back for another year ☹️. I can’t see that anyone has started a SAD thread yet but today seems to be the day that it’s really kicking in...

Oh yes I'd love a sunbed too but skin cancer runs in my family

Such a shame they’re so dangerous.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/11/2024 19:18

I heard that sunbeds really help with SAD. A colleague told me about 20 years ago. There's some spas with sun rooms but I've never been. Different kind of light apparently.

my hyper attack was short lived but the kitchen is very clean.

I haven't even got enough brain to watch a challenging film and my stomach is confused about whether it's hungry.

sorry for so many posts, I haven't been on for a couple of weeks as I was okay but it hit hard today!

lyingonthebeach · 08/11/2024 19:45

@EmeraldRoulette we are with you. I know what you mean about being hit.............. the recent non-stop grey has been flooring!

This is our tribe and for the last year or so, this forum has really helped me and it will continue.

Strengths, sunshine and best

xx

Today has been really rough for me too. Struggled with concentration, slept badly. Felt anxious and no focus. I'm going to have a bath and head to bed.

PamperGoals2024 · 08/11/2024 22:13

Awful day today. I'm clinging to the fact we still have nice coloured leaves on trees, sort of dramatic against the grey. But doesn't make up for the lack of light.

My mood was super low today. Its like an all encompassing blanket of doom.

I've also been having evening hyper activity which is a feature of my ADHD which I normally control.

PamperGoals2024 · 08/11/2024 22:14

@DropOfffArtiste sounds like a good plan. I'm also writing off today and having a bath. I think sometimes that is needed!

Imatorturedpoet · 08/11/2024 23:48

Can I join you all? I've been feeling really low recently, anxious about everything and overthinking. I've just had (another) mental health assessment this morning and I've increased my dose of antidepressants back up to what they used to be, as I'd reduced them in the summer whilst feeling a bit better. I've no motivation to go out and also have chronic pain, so walking is difficult these days.

Comedycook · 09/11/2024 13:31

Welcome @Imatorturedpoet

Another grey day today.... honestly when did we last seen the sun or even a glimpse of blue sky. This has been an awful week. The weather report is showing some sun tomorrow....I'm praying it's true. I'm currently still in bed...got up and cooked lunch and now back in bed. So hard to motivate myself to do anything right now.

lyingonthebeach · 09/11/2024 15:13

I've been in bed by 4pm for most days in the last few weeks. I finish work in bed and then I watch cosy, sun-drenched dramas.

Christmasfairy3 · 09/11/2024 15:35

Can anyone recommend any vitamins or anything that helps .I feel like I'm wading through treacle, and trying not to go back to bed

I’m doing ok today, strangely. I’ve had an awful week, but have felt alright today so far, and I have no idea why.

How’s everyone doing?

My go-to is Death in Paradise. I also like (really ancient but still) Magnum PI. I often just scroll until and can see something that won't tax my SAD addled brain and it set in a sunny place. It helps me...........................

Thank you! I haven’t seen either of those, so will definitely try them. It’s exactly what I need.

EmeraldRoulette · 09/11/2024 16:25

Spent about an hour walking for errands

never ceases to amaze me how people think walking in dark grey gloom is going to help SAD 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Christmasfairy3, start with one of those berocca style multi vitamins, supermarket ones are exactly the same and much cheaper. Then add extra vitamin D and iron. I’m also finding lions mane mushroom tablets and (weirdly) green tea are helping.

I’m also so sick of the grey, but this weekend is one of my favourites of the year, despite being for sad reasons, as being from a military family, I love the remembrance day parades. DS is in cadets and he one this afternoon and they had a full bagpipe band. Then tomorrow is the main one and my dad will come in his suit and RAF tie. I wish my brother could come as he’s currently serving in the RAF and it would be nice to get a picture of them together but he’s at his base this weekend.

On a less positive note, DH wants to go to a local craft brewery tonight that does music and food. I’m literally having to drag myself there, I’m so wiped out 😭. Last time we went it want the end of summer and I was all dressed up in a little dress and heeled boots and this time I’m going in baggy jeans and vans. Just want to get into my pjs tbh 😭.

I found a vitamin D spray in TKMaxx the other day, so I've been taking that daily. I really don't like green tea, although did have a quite nice peach flavoured one in a cafe once so should maybe look for that.

I really can't afford a SAD lamp at the moment. How do you all get on with them?

I'm so tired all the time, no matter how much or little I sleep. I have to force myself to get up every morning.

I really love my lamp....it was about £30 off Amazon

Does anyone listen to lbc? They were talking about the grey weather and seasonal affective disorder this evening

Is yours a lumie? The cheapest I've found was £60 and that's a mini one.

If you go on FB marketplace there are lamps ranging from 5 - 30. Wish I'd done that before getting my latest one. My first one I got on Ebay for £10. Lasted ages.

No...it's just some generic brand. It's 15000 lux and I read they should ideally be 10000 lux minimum....so decided it would do.

EmeraldRoulette · 10/11/2024 15:08

Sorry to be a complete misery. Today has been one of those days where I almost burst into tears just because I don't know that's how I feel in this dark grey.

I went out earlier as I was hoping to do something that would cheer me up a bit. But the thing had been cancelled due to illness. Such a bad time of year for a lot of people I think.

So it felt like schlepping out in cold drizzle for no reason.

Debating buying a second daylight lamp for the lounge. It's a tiny lounge so you would think one would be enough. But it's asking a lot for a daylight lamp to beat this intense grey.

Comedycook · 10/11/2024 15:15

I also felt like crying today....out of pure frustration with this never ending grey. The weather report said there would be some sunshine today but that changed and still not a hint of blue sky. It's absolutely intolerable. Weather report says it will be sunny tomorrow... we'll see
