My teen is now stressed.
She was quite depressed for a bit. Especially in lockdown.

I think her depression dragged me down.

And I've not recovered. I've also had menopause etc etc.

But has anyone else been dragged down by a teen depression?

This is on the Autistic society website.

Also Reddit has a lot of info on burnout and FND

Is the therapist a neurologist?

No, she's a psychotherapist who specialises in Tourette's and we had a lot of success last year with her CBIT. She's not diagnosing anything, just signposting us to consider our options.

@hockeysticks89

I’ll bet my bottom dollar she doesn’t have FND and is in ASD burnout instead.

I guess it’s like chronic fatigue. If you push though it gets worse. ASD young women are always misdiagnosed. Please join that fb group, its really helpful.

Is your Dd exhausted? Wants to hide away from everything?

This makes so much sense and is something to consider.

Thank you, I can't express how much it means to read your perspective.

Join Autistic Girks network on FB.

They are a massive help. I searched FND in it. Quite a lot came up.

Good luck x l understand this is a teenage girl thing, and they do move on eventually.

I'm having one of those days where I just don't get it.

She's fine all weekend, happy as Larry in fact, went in town with friends, came out for a walk at the beach etc.

Monday? Miserable. Can't possibly go to school. My anxiety.

Are we actually just being taken for a ride, if not completely at least partially, I mean it's dairy obvious that she can get away with not going.

I would say yes she is having you on if she can be fine at the weekend. I do have sympathy for genuine cases but a lot of kids these days play the anxiety card and parents should realise this. They need to go to school. Staying at home only makes the problem worse

@Telomeres
I initially thought the same as you that we were being taken for a ride.
Now, I am not grateful for the days my daughter has a friend to go out with or agrees to come out with us.

When you see them in bed all day and all night and doing nothing, that is when it is really heartbreaking.
Meeting friends, social events, etc. do not have the same pressure as school.
Of course, I get that life is hard, and they do have to grow up and face it. However, when they are mentally unable to cope with things, pushing them does have negative consequences.
As parents, we do tend to worry for their future, but we must have hope that once they are better, they will be able to pull themselves out of the situation.
Xx

I would say the opposite. The weekends have no anxiety because she’s not in school. Forcing my dd in caused her to self harm. The school environment is too overwhelming for some.

It’s school causing the anxiety .

Yes they display behaviours that have you over a barrel and they know this kids arnt stupid. How will their mental health improve by staying in the house all day ? It won't it will only get worse we need to find ways to help them stay In school because the first day you let them stay home is the day it all goes down hill because they know that's an option

EvenStillIWantTo · 14/04/2024 16:27

Easy to say @ontheflighttosingapore but when school has previously led to suicide attempts it's not quite so black and white.

Do you not think parents of kids who won’t go to school have already thought like that? Are horrified and desperate that their children won’t go to school?

It’s so so easy to say. My DD’s mental health improved dramatically once out of school.
