Success from switch from Escitalopram to sertraline?

Have been on Escitalopram as 3 months now. Had went as high as 15mg for a few weeks but couldn’t tolerate the tiredness so came back down to 10mg.
It just ain’t working. Plain and simple.

Thinking of switching to sertraline….has anyone had successfully done this and improved with the switch?

desperately needing advice as I’m feeling so down and lost.

I'm on a switch from duloxetine to fluoxetine and it's not been great but years ago I switched from escitalopram to sertraline with no issues. X

Blessedbethefruitz · 01/02/2024 13:35

I had citalopram many years ago and it made me a zombie, though I did stick with it for a few years. I started sertraline after my first was born 5 years ago, and aside from a break during second pregnancy, have been on it since. It's been life changing for me, though the first month of side effects are tough before they wear off.

ClawedButler · 01/02/2024 13:37

I was on citalopram for about 10 years, but it got to a point where it suddenly stopped working. I was switched to sertraline then (about 3 years ago) and it's been grand.

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 15:26

@Dawn1331 did sertraline stop working or why did u eventually switch?

Dawn1331 · 01/02/2024 15:28

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo yeah it felt numb. I was off all meds till September just passed and tried duloxetine but it didn't really help so two weeks on fluoxetine and I'm waiting for tue clouds to part x

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 15:31

@Blessedbethefruitz I feel like a zombie too. And my head is oh so foggy.
What mg of sertraline were u on?
sometimes on the Escitalopram I can see the tiniest glimmer of hope. But then it all
comes crashing down and more. I feel at the moment it’s giving me depression, which I initially went on it for anxiety and potential ADHD.

@Dawn1331 i hope they part for us both soon.

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo I'm praying they do. I hate anxiety it's crippled my life x

Blessedbethefruitz · 01/02/2024 16:53

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo up to 20mg. For sertraline, the starter dose of 50mg was fine for me :)

mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2024 16:54

I did the reverse switch I think. I've been on a lot of different meds and it sometimes takes a while to find the best one or the best combination

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 17:55

@Dawn1331 it really is debilitating.

@mynameiscalypso how are you finding Escitalopram?

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2024 18:03

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo I'm on completely different meds now although both (sertraline and escitalopram) worked well for me for a long period without many side effects. I now take Lamotrigine and Trazodone which have been brilliant for me.

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 18:11

@mynameiscalypso both together? I have never heard of them but I will bank that as a possible next option. I’ve tried lots of anti d’s, so far no success.

My daughter did that switch and it was a game changer for her.

mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2024 18:19

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo yes, I take trazodone at night as it is sedating. I take Lamotrigine in the morning. It's normally a bipolar med (which I don't have) but it apparently can help to make other ADs work. I've also been through most of them in various combinations so I totally understand how you're feeling at the moment.

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 18:34

@Icantbedoingwithit Happy to hear it helped your daughter. What mg is she taking?

OP posts:
Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 18:47

@mynameiscalypso I have just looked up reviews on Lamotrigine and they are fantastic. Did the doctor prescribe this to you ok?

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2024 18:52

@Ijustdontknowwhattodoo Do you see a GP or a psychiatrist? Mine is prescribed by a psychiatrist so I don't know if a GP would be able to. I also thought only psychiatrists could prescribe combinations of medications but I could be wrong.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/02/2024 18:53

I did. I was piling on the pounds in escitalopram, so swapped to sertraline with no issues.

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 19:07

@mynameiscalypso on a long wait list to see a psychologist.

OP posts:
Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 01/02/2024 19:44

@Toddlerteaplease did you have a straight swap? I’m nervous

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 01/02/2024 20:01

Yes I think it was.

Ijustdontknowwhattodoo · 02/02/2024 09:11

Just taken my first tablet. Fingers crossed. Though I can’t imagine them helping. No ssri has. To be honest they have all sent me loopy. If this fails, I’m at a loss.

I am a long time Sertaline user, and can't really say I notice any side effects from it. But I take it for Bipolar Depression in conjunction with Mirtazapine and Priadel for my highs.
