Hi again, I’m back for another year ☹️. I can’t see that anyone has started a SAD thread yet but today seems to be the day that it’s really kicking in! So here’s another thread to support each other through winter 🥶.

Just to introduce myself, I have regular depression with SAD on top, an eating disorder and ASD (a fun combination).

All are welcome, the only rule is no one is allowed to mention, hygge, snuggling or being cosy!

No sunshine and it's sooo cold. But warmed up with a brisk walk and a lengthy stop in the pub! 🍷 Happy Easter everyone . Fingers crossed for brighter, warmer weather to come ☀.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 01/04/2024 08:32

@lyingonthebeach oh no! I’ve been in shorts (and a hoodie though) for the past 2 days. It’s raining and cold today though 🙈.

@Idratherbepaddleboarding sorry this fell off my list and I can't get my brain to work

How is everyone? It's 10th April and I feel dreadful. Sitting in front of SAD lamp. No sign of actual sun in the forecast.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 10/04/2024 17:46

@EmmaEmerald same! I’m so sick of it and bored and restless. It’s just unrelenting.

It's so difficult isn't it. Yesterday I was talking about going back on antidepressants. Today I'm thinking that actually this is really about weather...

I think to be in the middle of April and to be so deprived of sunlight, (and everybody is talking about it), it's probably having a cumulative effect on me. It's not a normal year at all.

I'm going to have to use the SAD lamp twice a day every day as if it's November for as long as this goes on. I stopped around end of March. I can see from exercise log that I felt okay mid March but that didn't last long as I then didn't do a workout after March 22nd and I have no idea why.

Because it's just a mass of grey, the last six months. I don't remember much about it.

@Idratherbepaddleboarding @EmmaEmerald

I so agree. I keep hoping and praying for spring and a decent summer. But I am grateful for thus thread - reminds me tvat i am not a complete basket case

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 15/04/2024 11:11

Urgh it’s not getting any better 😭. It’s blowing a gale here and not set to improve until the weekend. I thought we were promised a heat wave! To top it all off I have my what seems to be becoming annual chest infection 😭😭.

We’ve had bonkers hail this morning.the weather is most confusing!

I might need to get the map back out as well :(

CalmConfident · 15/04/2024 14:48

Map? Lamp!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 15/04/2024 14:59

@CalmConfident oh no! We actually have bright sunshine here, it would be gorgeous if it wasn’t so bloody windy. That’s what you get for living by the sea though I suppose!

lyingonthebeach · 20/04/2024 08:13

Sunshine! And it's forecast to last for most of the day. I feel so happy :)

EmmaEmerald · 23/04/2024 19:15

@lyingonthebeach did it happen?

it's bloody awful here. How is everyone doing?

I don't sleep at night so not sure what to do about the SAD lamp. Honestly don't think I've used it in April.

I was hoping to use the summer to build a foundation for my life after it collapsed, but also to build on things that can be done in the winter.

But there is no sign of spring even. It's horrendous.

lyingonthebeach · 24/04/2024 08:20

@EmmaEmerald

We had a bright weekend with plenty of blue sky. I felt quite good.

But the last couple of days have been grey, wet and so very cold! I have crashed again and it's SAD lamp, and high strength vit D to keep me sane-ish!

I know what you mean abut needing summer to put us right. I almost feel a sense of dread that we will have a repeat of 2023 😩

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/04/2024 21:40

It’s actually been gorgeous here since Saturday 😀. Still a bit cold for my liking but the sunshine makes all the difference!

EmmaEmerald · 24/04/2024 21:46

@Idratherbepaddleboarding I don't suppose you can tell us? I didn't think anywhere in the UK had sun.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/04/2024 22:53

@EmmaEmerald Lancashire, surprisingly! We also had the best “summer” last year (although it was still crap). I guess it has to be our turn sometime!

OP posts:
EmmaEmerald · 24/04/2024 23:04

@Idratherbepaddleboarding Just looked it up
For Lancashire as a whole, it looks like a sunny weekend. I should seriously consider visiting. Are you really getting blue skies and full sun, not just slivers of it?

I am free on the bank holiday weekend and ours looks shit here in Essex. What's good to visit in Lancashire? Not joking!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 24/04/2024 23:11

@EmmaEmerald yes! We’re very lucky. On Saturday, I was sat in a beer garden in a teeny tiny dress (with a shacket over, it’s not that warm) and I even had my sunglasses on. If I was coming up this way, I’d head for the Fylde coast, or Lytham (not Blackpool)! Personally, I’d see if Ribby Hall Village had any availability.

@Idratherbepaddleboarding Lucky you!

Like @EmmaEmerald, I'd consider a visit but have so much on for the BH weekend. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/04/2024 15:22

What a shame that other places aren’t experiencing the sunshine. It’s another gorgeous day here sorry, this is my view while waiting to pick DS up from school!

@Idratherbepaddleboarding That's good to know, thank you. Dunno why I've never been.

We had about an hour of sun trying to break through grey cloud, now it's just grey cloud and predicted rain shortly.

I feel like Lancashire is at risk of being taken over by MNers if they see this 😂I would love to be sitting there rn!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/04/2024 16:44

@EmmaEmerald to be fair we’re usually known for our sunshine! It’s gorgeous this evening though, I’ve taken the dog for a none muddy walk in the field and now I’m just sitting in the garden trying to soak up as much sunlight as possible!

OP posts:
lyingonthebeach · 01/05/2024 08:22

It's 1st May and it's grey and depressing. SAD lamp on and looking at flights to sunnier climes when I should be looking at budgets. I really just want to go back to bed!

I hope it's better where you are.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 01/05/2024 10:03

@lyingonthebeach oh man, I’m sorry it’s still so bad where you are. I have to say it’s absolutely glorious here, I’m working from home today and considering putting shorts on!

OP posts:
lyingonthebeach · 08/05/2024 17:52

Rather than moaning, I'd like to say that we have had a few bright days and I have spent some time in the garden and getting a few short county walks in between work projects. I feel so much better for it and keeping everything crossed that it continues.

I hope you are all enjoying a bit more sun and blueish skies too. xx
