sorry, never been on it. i think there have been threads about it in the past, so might be best to check out the old threads. hopefully someone will be on soon who has taken it.

bump

WigWamBam · 12/11/2004 10:11

I haven't had any experience of these myself, except that I discussed them with my GP as a possible alternative to Citalopram. It often works in patients who don't suit standard SSRIs as it acts by blocking both serotonin reuptake and noradrenaline reuptake. From what I remember of my discussion with the GP, the side effects are similar to those of ordinary SSRIs.

I hope someone comes along soon who has personal experience of efexor who can help you more than I can.

bump

mumwithnoname · 12/11/2004 18:25

Why do you keep writing "bump"??!!

WigWamBam · 12/11/2004 18:26

To bump it back up to the top of the list where hopefully it will be seen by someone who can help.

mumwithnoname · 12/11/2004 18:43

Spacecadet · 13/11/2004 19:18

Hi sorry I cant give any advice re, Effexor, have you tried looking it up on the net? Dont forget though that everyones experience of ads is different, so what works for one doesnt always work for another, you shopuldnt be put off by anyone possibly claiming they didnt get on with it because it could work brilliantly for you.I would suggest you take the tablets , you can always change them, but dont come off ads altogether, if you are really unhappy about taking Effexor ask your gp for a different ad.

MrsMiaWallace · 13/11/2004 21:26

Head still full of fog!!! Not started taking new ads yet -not sure I want to after looking up all the side effects at work this pm!!! (rather be depressed?!)

MummyToSteven · 18/11/2004 22:34

MWNN - but all the ADs have side effect leaflets the size of War & Peace tho! and there's always somebody on the web that says something like I took a prozac and my head fell off type of thing. if you don't fancy them, maybe go back to the GP to look at alternatives?

mumwithnoname · 19/11/2004 08:18

The side effects in the BNF (british national formulary) were even longer than the nice little list in the patient leaflet!!!!! Would rather manage without if poss anyway!!

Spacecadet · 19/11/2004 08:20

The side effects can look horrifying, but they have to cover every single "possible" side seefect that the drug has been known to cause, inc the very, very rare ones, sometimes its best not to look at the side sffects leaflet!because our brians are so unique , ads work diferently for all of us, just because someone has had a bad reaction to one doesnt mean that you will.

Spacecadet · 19/11/2004 08:21

mwnn, stop looking in your bnf!!!!, I used to do that and found it just made me worse!!!

Anon44 · 19/11/2004 08:39

I took them for a while. They made me feel very weird at first - I kept yawning and then the yawn would turn into a sort of shiver and I'd think I was going to throw up. It was quite alarming. I also felt "speedy" for an hour or two after each tablet - like I'd had a couple of gallons of coffee. But that wore off after about two weeks. Over the next month or so I started to feel noticeably brighter. I wasn't dancing around singing with joy or anything but just felt I could do things rather than just sitting there waiting for stuff to happen if you know what I mean. Hope you get on ok with them.

mumwithnoname · 19/11/2004 11:33

BUT atm I'm feeling ok without them!!!!

tammybear · 19/11/2004 20:45

hey, how r u? xxx
