***Citalopram Buddies... ;o)***

Well.. jumping in on the act of the other "buddy threads", there seem to a shed load of us on citalopram.

How many of us are there exactly?

What dosage are you all on? Is it working?

I'm on 10mg for anxiety. It certainly takes the edge off the panic feelings and stops me waking up with that dreadful, crippling anxious feeling, as if my stomach's in a vice. But being as things are a bit crap at the moment, I do feel generally down even though I've never been technically considered depressed (just suffering from lifestyle induced anxiety!)

DH is on 20mg. Similar reasons, slightly different symptoms.

We have been on it since June.

I came off mine (sensibly) a month of so ago but the horrid panic came back and I just couldn't face all that again. It makes life "un-do-able" and I have a lot of stuff that I have to get done everyday/responsibilities etc. So not sure what the answer is but I certainly don't want to stay on anti depressants forever and GP originally mentioned a 6 month time slot.

What are other's experiences?

PS I hate the "no orgasm" side effect of citalopram!! It really really bothers me.. main reason I wanted to come off it.. but I hate the anxiety more! Anyone else on it suffer in that way?

Do you feel that way often?

Having a bad day myself today.

spookybatoscar · 26/10/2007 14:25

It's only been in the last couple of weeks tbh

I'm worried why. I think I should see my GP really

MascaraOHara · 26/10/2007 14:28

and you;ve been it since Easter at the same level? nothings changed in the last couple of weeks that could have triggered these feelings? not a tricky time of year or have you changed the time of day you take the tablet? if there's nothing you can think of I would definitely speak to GP on the phone.

Although you shouldn't worry that you are on Citalopram.. I think we all worry that we aren't doing enough sometimes or the fact that we take A/Ds.

supperwoman · 26/10/2007 14:37

I win I've been on it since 1995 for panic disorder. I have tried to come off a number of times but always relapse very quickly. I take 10mg a day and am on my second citalopram pg and bf my son whilst on it with no harmful effects.
My libido is decreased from what it was but I still can have multiple orgasms so no complaints from me
I do worry about long term effects and during my next maternity leave I will try to come off it again.
All my problems started with the sudden death of my father - at one point I was housebound with agorophobia. Citalopram helps me function normally - I have a very stressful job and I have achieved a lot since I started on it.

supperwoman · 26/10/2007 14:41

wtf!!!

spookybatoscar · 26/10/2007 14:42

No, nothing's changed

I am feeling put on more but is that in reality or is it the meds not working?

and I feel like I'm failing to be adequate again

Hope this is a bad couple of weeks really

Moomalicious · 26/10/2007 15:14

Spooky, I understand that constant questioning so well. I can never work out if something is because of the way I feel or is adding to the way I feel. I'd say though, if you were alright and now after feeling you've been put upon you're feeling worse maybe it's your current situation rather than the pills not working. Just my opinion but I'd ring the docs to check anyway.

truffaut · 26/10/2007 16:10

superwoman it is great to hear that you are pregnant and on citalopram. will go and speak to my gp about it.

MascaraOHara · 26/10/2007 16:11

my teeth still ache.

I'm having a crappy day. Think I'm going to curl up at home for weekend - hopefully dd can tolerate that.

Moomalicious · 26/10/2007 16:32

How long have you been taking the meds for Mascara? My teeth were hurting yesterday but I grind them when I'm anxious anyway so often wake up with an aching jaw. I'm just trying to remember to relax my jaw every time I get a twinge. Don't know whether chewing gum would make it better or worse but it's an idea?

supperwoman · 26/10/2007 16:49

truffaut - my gp wanted to change me to dothiepin or seroxat as both are well used in pg but I was reluctant. She sent me to see a specialist for his opinion he said it was fine - at the hospital I discussed bf with paediatrician who looked up the effects of citalopram and was also happy for me to continue.

IdrisTheDragon · 26/10/2007 17:52

Feeling very tense which isn't good. I forgot to take my tablet on Weds evenign and felt v jittery yesterday but surely forgetting one wouldn't have that effect?

JUst feel I want to stop the world and get off - and that is with sleeping from about 9:30 until 6:15. Am worried I will start getting snipy when DH gets bak, which is hardly his fault ( at me).

Am also really clumsy yetserday and today (keep dropping things) and forgetful (forgot to shut the car boot and wondered why it was so breezy when I drove off ).

IdrisTheDragon · 26/10/2007 17:52

AT least remembered to go and order my repeat presciption.

spookybatoscar · 26/10/2007 20:02

Thanks for the messages, they have helped. If I'm still feeling down and blue after the weekend then I will go see the GP

allgonebellyup · 28/10/2007 19:33

ive been on it for 6-7 wks now, and my teeth are really killing me!
whenever i get nervous or have a sudden rush of adrenaline, it shoots right through my teeth, its painful!
Whats that all about then??!

MascaraOHara · 29/10/2007 08:46

Yep I get the teeth thing.. although mine are settling down now.

Slept last night, all night and it was fairly restful so that's a massive thing for me after the last few weeks. I'm so glad!

Feeling pretty good today as a result.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/10/2007 09:42

My sleeping is not good - once I am asleep it is all right but I am either going to bed really early or my brain is too alive and I go to bed too late.

Still feel like I am so much not "me". If I still feel like this on Wed I think I will see the doctor again.

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 29/10/2007 09:45

I feel like shit. But I don't think any amount of citalopram is going to change that.

cremolafoamingatthemouth · 29/10/2007 09:56

shpsh sorry you are feeling so crappy. want to vent?

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 29/10/2007 09:56

Thank you Cremola. I have been don't worry. But it's on the SN board.

OP posts:
cremolafoamingatthemouth · 29/10/2007 10:01

are you getting any sleep? I think things are always much worse if yo feel like you aren't getting enough.I have started taking the citalopram at night which is much better

spookybatoscar · 29/10/2007 10:34

Feeling more positive today

Maybe it was just a sticky patch and I'm back on track now?

Sleep...D'ya find that you get to sleep then get disturbed in the early hours and just can't get back to sleep? Then you end up tired and ratty in the morning? or is it just me

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 29/10/2007 14:51

Never get much sleep due to DS2. Not much can be done about it really.
