***Citalopram Buddies... ;o)***

Well.. jumping in on the act of the other "buddy threads", there seem to a shed load of us on citalopram.

How many of us are there exactly?

What dosage are you all on? Is it working?

I'm on 10mg for anxiety. It certainly takes the edge off the panic feelings and stops me waking up with that dreadful, crippling anxious feeling, as if my stomach's in a vice. But being as things are a bit crap at the moment, I do feel generally down even though I've never been technically considered depressed (just suffering from lifestyle induced anxiety!)

DH is on 20mg. Similar reasons, slightly different symptoms.

We have been on it since June.

I came off mine (sensibly) a month of so ago but the horrid panic came back and I just couldn't face all that again. It makes life "un-do-able" and I have a lot of stuff that I have to get done everyday/responsibilities etc. So not sure what the answer is but I certainly don't want to stay on anti depressants forever and GP originally mentioned a 6 month time slot.

What are other's experiences?

PS I hate the "no orgasm" side effect of citalopram!! It really really bothers me.. main reason I wanted to come off it.. but I hate the anxiety more! Anyone else on it suffer in that way?

I think your doing well suirdle

Twigy · 07/02/2008 10:31

Moring all, (big stretch from Twigy who had a lie in this morning).

The sun is out again so really in the mood for a walk with LO and his new trike.

Dont think this good mood will last for long though. Got a letter from work and may possibly be discharged from my duties as I may not be able to carry them out sefely.

itsahardknocklife · 07/02/2008 10:36

Oh dear Twigy. How do you feel about the letter?

I feel poo today. Doesn't help that DS is having a screaming day. DH has just taken him out for a drive.

Has anyone else found that the tablets have affected their periods? I'm not making it up - it's a real side effect mentioned on the leaflet!

Twigy · 07/02/2008 10:53

Bit worried about it because I pay for a lot of bills!!
But DH has just accepted a new job which means he will be away even more!!! Dont know which one to be more pissed off about.

Dont know about periods Itsa cause I had a coil fitted about the same time. Mine are a bit irregular now but it could be the meds or coil.

I had one of them days yesterday, screaming from 6am until 10pm. Looks like he could be finally getting a tooth. Lots of drubbling!!!

itsahardknocklife · 07/02/2008 11:06

Oh blimey - stock up on the teething powders, cucumber and the lifesaver known as Medised.
What does your DH do? Is he a gigolo?

Twigy · 07/02/2008 11:12

He's the Stig. But its a secret so dont tell anyone.

itsahardknocklife · 07/02/2008 11:13

Wow - like Stig of the dump? That is the best job! Tell him to keep an eye out for useful things for me

Twigy · 07/02/2008 11:18

(Twigy gets up from the floor and stops laughing).

He actually drives a really big crane. Not the ones where the man sits up high all day, one that is bigger than a truck.

But the Stig sounded more interesting.

itsahardknocklife · 07/02/2008 11:24

Well I think should stick with my description as it is far more interesting!

chubbymummy · 07/02/2008 20:57

Ooohh, could I bring my son to visit him at work, he (thinks he) is Bob the Builder!
Had a not-too-bad day at work today. My boss actually came and spoke to me this morning and said thank you for my comments yesterday and she appreciated my honesty! I almost died there and then, I'm sure she only said it to provoke a heart attack!!!!! Should I take that as the green light not to tolerate her s**t anymore or is she trying to trick me? Slept a bit better last night - maybe that was because I had, had such a victory at work.

Twigy · 07/02/2008 22:17

Glad things are better at work Chubby. Sometimes it takes a good ding dong to clear the air, your boss obviously respects you alot.

Yeah my DH thinks he is dead cool in his big crane with his shades on and people always staring. His horn is rather disappointing though!!! Its more of a squeek than a honk!!

chubbymummy · 07/02/2008 22:21

Lol at tiny horn Twigy!

Twigy · 07/02/2008 22:24

Your up late Chubby, are you alright now?

chubbymummy · 07/02/2008 22:38

Still worried about the sleeping, my eyes are getting tired from staring at the computer screen but I know as soon as I get in bed my brain will start thinking of really pointless random stuff that will stop me from drifting off. I think i'll take a hot chocolate up with me soon and give it a try anyway. How are things with you?

babalon · 07/02/2008 22:41

Hi all,
I'm kind of butting in a bit late but here goes. Have been on 20mg of citalopram for almost exactly a year mainly for anxiety/ panic ? PND but alot to do with my ds2 treatments that he's had from birth. I was ticking along nicely following an initial increase of symtoms. I was about ready to come off them but then my DS1 (8) got really sick and was in ICU for a while back in october 07. Dr prescribed me 40mg because I was a state after the trauma of his sudden deteriation. I took it for 1 day and felt awful so never took 40mg again.

A few weeks ago I missed a dose and didn't feel bad so cut down to 20 mg every other day I haven't taken any since Sunday. I've felt a bit fluey this week but forgot about the citalopram until yesterday when I was having weird vacant dizzy spell and then again this morning. does anyone know if this is a withdrawal symptom? and should I take a pill or stick at it?

Sorry probably too much life story there

Twigy · 07/02/2008 22:42

I'm alright suppose, but like you sleeping is a problem. Trying to wear myself now, got diswasher to empty and washing to sort out.

This PND is really crap. I honestly thought that being on these tablets would sort me out, but the last few weeks I have been doing/saying really silly things and people are really noticing it!!

Twigy · 07/02/2008 22:46

Oh Babalon I am sorry to hear you news. Hope things are better with everyones health. (Twigy is giving you a big hug)

I'm on 40mg and have a foggy head quite a bit.

I cant give you any advice as I take them stringlently every day. Can you go back to your GP for a chat, maybe your not ready to stop them completely. You have had alot to deal with.

chubbymummy · 07/02/2008 22:50

Hi babalon. How many have you missed? I recently cut down to 10mg and am now taking them every 2/3 days to wean off them but am experiencing terrible side effects - insomnia is the worst! I also feel fluey (but that might be actual flu) and I have a killer headache (lack of sleep?). Had an upset stomach at first but that has settled. Some people have come off higher doses without suffering too many side effects though from what I've been told so it depends on your body. Did you suffer any side effects when you started on the meds? I would pay a visit to your gp just to be on the safe side to be honest because they don't recomend that you stop suddenly!
Good luck and let us know how you get on!

babalon · 07/02/2008 23:15

Thanks you 2,
have missed 5 days worth, emotionally feel ok and I do think I've some winter virus. I've taken 20mg every other day for 2.5 weeks and was fine on that. I think I should go and speak to Dr my I need 10mg every other day for a week or so. I do think it's time though I finally feel strong enough to go drug free

justonemorecookie · 08/02/2008 07:06

Hi people. As ive said before i am on 10mg every day, with a view to coming off them but coz husband was being a complete prick i decided to stay with them for a bit otherwise i know id suffer with terrible anxiety. Anyway, hubby was a total prick again last night anfd i had a wobble at 3am. Havent slept since. x

AutumnMists · 08/02/2008 09:41

Hi all

welcome babalon and onemorecookie (yes please!)

I felt really sick on Wed night so Thurs morning phoned dh to come home rather than go into work for the pm which he did thankfully. Now have a really bad headache but not sure why

Maybe there is something going around - ds came in at 3am with a temp, so no more sleep for me, not sure I can cope with 2 sleepless nights (lol how far am I from their babyhood!)

Glad to see others coping Ok so far with only a few wobbles. I had one Wed pm but they are getting much shorter and less intense

Really nervous today as am popping into work (due back properly next week) wanted to get all the greetings etc over with and catch up with things so i am not too nervous when I do it for real! My counsellor had me practising responses to all possible questions - weird but actually does help that i have strategies in place (altho watch me forget them when I need them)

Twigy - I really thought you meant Stig - i love Top Gear; gutted now Hope you get work sorted - can they offer you something else?

itsahardknocklife · 08/02/2008 10:04

Well I feel crap today (and have done for a few days), but the thought of Twigy's husband's small horn made me smile

I thought I was feeling better last week but now I don't.

And we're skint and the bloody rat has moved back into the garage so I have to clean it out again and DH is in a foul mood because we're skint. And I told him to get a job in September but he couldn't be arsed and now the shit has hit the fan money-wise and he is looking. But rather than being sensible and ringing places back that have left him messages or looking on the net at night when DS is asleep, he does it in the day and gets stressed when DS cries. Aarrrrrgggghhhhh.

Sorry for the rant. Feel a bit better now I've got it all out.

AutumnMists · 08/02/2008 10:22

Oh itsa poor you - glad you at least feel a litle better for having been able to have a rant.

I would lend you my kitten to catch your rat if we weren't so far apart!

Can you (tactfully) suggest to your dh what he might do or even offer to do some of it for him? That may help you both work through this

Sorry you are skint - it must be horrible. We recently moved house and the bills just seem to keep coming so I understand a little.

Maybe go back to the docs if the pills are not working - you might need to increase the dose if things are still piling up on you

Twigy · 08/02/2008 10:39

Poor you Itsa, Have to say you have my sympathies. My DH changed jobs when I had LO. He said it would be better money. Its was c* and he was away all the time. I was really stressing about money.

In the end I had to be really harsh and told him he was useless!! (not proud of it) it did work though and he sorted himself out the next week. Its horrible when your skint but you need to keepo your chin up for the LO and yourself.

itsahardknocklife · 08/02/2008 11:40

Well I made him ring just now to apply for a council place as we won't be able to afford the rent on this place if I don't go back to my job. I went in and told the rat in the garage that he would not be coming with us when we move!
A job has come up that I will make DH apply for this evening. It's only 3 hours a day so he could look after the little man during the day still.
Autumn, thanks for the offer of the cat. Our cat is useless. I tried putting him in the garage before and he miaowed until we let him out. Silly thing.
I go back to the doc next week and I think I might need a stronger dose of the tablets.
And some prescription whiskey!
