Why on earth do you need a blue badge if you have anxiety.

There’s an explanation here.

www.gov.uk/government/news/people-with-hidden-disabilities-to-benefit-from-blue-badges

You could easily have found this on google yourself. I guess trying to make the op feel bad is more fun though. Hmm

ChickenDrumstick · 04/07/2020 18:32

@bitofasleuth

My DGM is 95. She's not entitled to a blue badge.

I don't understand all this eligibility stuff.

Have you been told why not? Mine is 98 and has had one for years. She is blind, basically deaf and has to walk with a walker or she just hits the deck. Is you DGM in a similar position? I would fight for one if so, it makes all the difference.
FoxyLo · 04/07/2020 18:33

Think about what you do now if you have to go out in a car.
-I only go to places I know I can get a space, if there's even a chance I won't find one or the spaces are small, hard to get into, I don't go.
-book them if I can (like for work).
-not a tight fit to get in (small multistory)
-I won't have to walk on a road without pavement.

I didn't no you would get a blue badge for anxiety and will definitely look into it. But for now I just about manage. I hope you get yours.
Remember this is something you are entitled to and it would definitely help. People without anxiety don't understand what a simple thing of going out it. Not finding a space when I'm running late absolutely sends me into a panic, like totally breakdown. So I do understand. Good luck.

danni0509 · 04/07/2020 18:33

@weepingwillow22

I had to appeal becuase it was initially turned down because it was considered I could stop him running in the road. I had to point out that I also had to manage a newborn baby and he was getting a bit big to physically restrain.*

Unless usain bolt had been giving me personal training sessions I couldn't catch my autistic son. 😂 not a chance in hell!

x2boys · 04/07/2020 18:34

I went to tribunal to get high rate mobility for my son danni whilst I understand you don't want to rock the boat if you have the evidence to challenge the DLA rates,it had you should imo .

ArriettyJones · 04/07/2020 18:34

This attitude isn’t okay. You wouldn’t accept judgement on your friend so you don’t have the right to judge others. Not all issues are visible.

WTF?

You did see that that string of quotes started with a poster who couldn’t walk unaided due to multiple sclerosis?

MrFaceyRomford · 04/07/2020 18:35

I have MS and can't walk unaided, and I have a blue badge. I still struggle to park near when I want to go because there aren't enough disabled spaces. I can't see this getting any better if able bodied people with anxiety can apply for badges now

My DW also has MS and a blue badge does not require you to park in disabled spaces. You can park anywhere including on yellow lines (unless there's a "No Loading" restriction.

ChickenDrumstick · 04/07/2020 18:38

@ArriettyJones if you read back, the first quote was someone else being quoted. My response is to the second part of the post, not the quote they
Are quoting. The second quote judges non-visible impairments. Please check first, thank you.

CommunistLegoBloc · 04/07/2020 18:43

@sirzy The space that best suits your needs. Someone with anxiety or EUPD isn't going to need the extra space (most likely) so the smaller but still reserved and well located spaces would suit their needs. No one is saying autism doesn't equal the need for more space, but it's not outlandish to suggest that some disabilities require different accommodations to others and that lumping everyone in together in an already oversubscribed system is a recipe for frustration.

ArriettyJones · 04/07/2020 18:44

Yes I read it, and couldn’t believe quite how tone deaf you were to respond to either part of it like that.

Denial of material reality is en vogue, I suppose, but you sound dreadful.

granadagirl · 04/07/2020 18:46

Firstly
I’d like to say for those of you who have answered the question I was asking about Thank You

Secondly
I’d also like to say that anxiety effects people in total different personal ways, NO 2 people will have the same symptoms that affect them.
To those people that think people with anxiety shouldn’t Be entitled to a BB
Then to you, I say
You have my life then!!!!!

I could quite easily write down how disabling anxiety as an impact on my life
But with so many judgemental ignorant people there are(just on this thread) so I won’t enlighten the ignorant ones.

With people like this ignorant it’s no wonder people with disabilities commit suicide, get turned down for pip,Dla or Esa , AA.
Would you have the same view if it was your. Dh,dd,ds,dm etc
I think NOT

Anyway, I came on to ask a question not to get flamed or for people to slate anxiety
Try living with it, there’s anxiety and ANXIETY!!!!!

@ArriettyJones what the hell are you on about?!?!
@ArriettyJones what the hell are you on about?!?!
You could try reading any of my posts on the thread. Some people seem to be catching my meaning okay.

ChickenDrumstick · 04/07/2020 18:50

@ArriettyJones well you haven’t caught my meaning, so take your own advice.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 04/07/2020 18:51

I think its about not using facilities that arent appropriate for you. Not every disabled person needs the same adjustments

If you need the extra space that a disabled bay provides, if you need the shorter distance to the shop then a blue badge is appropriate. If you can park in another space and still access the shop its not fair to use a disabled space as someone in a wheelchair would be prevented from being able to go to the shop.

There are of course hidden disabilities that will require use of disabled bays, however there will be some that dont. It doesnt mean that person isnt disabled but it does mean that they dont need a disabled bay.

Its like not every disabled person will need a wheelchair. You dont use disabled facilities you dont need, even if you qualify as disabled

gotothecooler · 04/07/2020 18:54

My DGM is 95. She's not entitled to a blue badge.

Why should she be?

I don't understand all this eligibility stuff.

I shall give you a clue. It's not based on age.

x2boys · 04/07/2020 18:58

It's up.to.the council to decide whether the Op is entitled to a blue badge not random posters on mumsnet ,Op maybe you would be better asking for this thread to be moved to the disability section?

E.g. my mum is disabled. She uses a disabled bay because she needs extra space to get in/out the car, and shorter distance to the shops. She wouldnt be able to get out the car with someone parked right next to her and would struggle to walk from the other side of the carpark.

Most of the time she doesnt need to use a disabled toilet, so she doesnt use it. Even though she is entitled to, because she would be taking the facilities away from someone who does.

x2boys · 04/07/2020 19:06

And the Op wouldnt get one if s/he isn't eligible ,but if the Op is deemed eligible than it isn't up to others to.judge

x2boys · 04/07/2020 19:10

For example someone might judge me taking my very mobile ten year old to.a disabled toilet Dish but you wouldn't know just by looking at him he's still in nappies and I need the space to change him .

heartsonacake · 04/07/2020 19:11

What’s the exact reason you need a badge, OP?

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 04/07/2020 19:19

Im not talking about judging anyone @x2boys, if someone is using disabled facilities i will assume they need them

However i would only expect people to use them if they do need them

x2boys · 04/07/2020 19:24

But that's what the Op.is doing Dish we have no idea how anxiety affects the Op or why She might be eligible but if the council agrees the Op meets the criteria than She has every right to use the disabled space regardless of what others might
think.

Someone1987 · 04/07/2020 19:29

I didn't know you could get a badge for anxiety. I have it horrendously, nearly admitted to a psychiatric hospital,.etc but after my maternity I'm going back to work... I didn't realise I could get PIP etc. Tbh i think i need to work to help myself.
