If you have a problem, report me eleven.

Consistently derailing what is supposed to be a supportive thread the op now on the mental health board is really poor behaviour.

This is the wrong place for debating the new guidelines. The op has done nothing wrong and doesn’t deserve all this guilt tripping.

ElevenSmiles · 06/07/2020 11:44

I don't report ppl.....Feel free to report me you obviously don't believe in free speech.

MichaelMumsnet · 06/07/2020 12:16

@FlissMumsnet

Hi Everyone,

Just a gentle reminder that this is the Mental Health topic and we expect everyone to be compassionate and empathetic about the struggles people face daily.

Flowers

Just dropping by to underline this ^^
ArriettyJones · 06/07/2020 12:49

@PurpleDaisies

That’s not the op’s fault eleven. She’s doing nothing wrong by applying under the new criteria.

This isn’t the right place for this debate.

You’re being very selective about who you say that to @PurpleDaisies

If you really believe this isn’t the right place for a debate, then it was not the right place for a debate when @JuanNil was ”wondering a lot about people's opinions on the shortage of spaces with regards to being a BB holder.” at 7.48 this morning.

Nor when @x2boys has pontificated on Blue Badge policy at various points this morning.

However you were conspicuously silent for 17 HOURS between haranguing me yesterday and berating @ElevenSmiles kate this morning.

Your bias towards one single viewpoint is glaring.

JuanNil · 06/07/2020 13:03

@x2boys ah okay Smile hopefully threads like this will slowly but surely begin to challenge those misconceptions. Also @granadagirl I really hope you've found the information you need to progress with filling in your application. You did nothing wrong by asking, and despite the occasional sidetracking it looks like there are lots of people here who are happy to help you. If you haven't been scared away for good that is Grin

ElevenSmiles · 06/07/2020 14:05

You're right Arrietty....Purple seems to think she can shut down certain posters she doesn't agree with. Thankfully she hasn't got that power.

Someone1987 · 06/07/2020 14:18

Does anyone know how to unfollow a thread?

If you're on mobile, upside down triangle top right and click hide thread.

No but MN can and that’s why they deleted several of ArriettyJones posts yesterday. Like picking at a scab for you isn’t it Arriety ? And I’d imagine that Purple was actually in bed like most people were for most of those seventeen hours.

It’s really bizarre you just can’t stay away from this thread even after the embarrassment of having your posts deleted yesterday.

It’s unfair for posters to turn a thread where some one was asking for help in to a ‘debate’ about something entirely different. Why don’t you start your own thread if it’s so important to thrash it out although I think you’d probably know you’d get handed you your arse and that’s why your skulking about on here...

Seventeen hours? I take opiates four times a day and I can’t remember the last time I managed eight. What adult sleeps “most of 17 hours”?

I’m not remotely embarrassed. The posts of mine MNHQ have decided to remove were the ones that detailed my physical disability and wheelchair use. The main thrust of my suggestion re disabled parking spaces are still there.

I didn’t abuse anyone, I wasn’t underhand, I didn’t say blue badges should be limited to the mobility impaired.

The only thing I really disagreed with others in was whether all disabilities needed the same size space (with yellow cross hatching)
and whether or not it was crass for someone with anxiety to tell me and other wheelchairs that anxiety causes serious physical effects.

I can’t be bothered to enquire as to the rationale behind it. Modding decisions pertaining to disability are never the ones that make best sense to me on MN. I’ve argued with them before about autism on MN and I’ve given up. Ableism is rife across all the boards unfortunately.

Evelefteden · 06/07/2020 15:06

Yeah like you’ve already been told this thread isn’t about you. Start your own

ArriettyJones · 06/07/2020 15:13

I only came back when I saw purple trying to order eleven off the board.

Either it’s a thread for everyone to discuss policy (as several posters were doing all morning). Or it’s an advice thread for one poster, in which case everyone needs to stop discussing policy.

I’m quite happy to leave it, as I did yesterday, if everyone else does.

I’m quite happy to send MNHQ copies of my PIP, motability , blue badge paperwork as bona fides. But the bullying on this thread is awful.

ElevenSmiles · 06/07/2020 17:50

I've never been very good at following orders.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/07/2020 19:58

What adult sleeps “most of 17 hours”?

Some of us who suffer with severe anxiety and depression do, when you cant even face the day but its obvious by all your me railing that you have zero empathy to those of us with long term debilitating invisible disabilities

MashedPotatoBrainz · 06/07/2020 20:09

What adult sleeps “most of 17 hours”?

I have autism, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea and a very annoying cat. My normally nightly sleep is 10-12 hours. 3 or 4 times a week I have to sleep again in the afternoon for 3 or 4 hours. When things are really bad I sleep for days on end, only getting up to use the bathroom. Last time was after my disabled badge assessment. I lost 2.5 days to that.

JuanNil · 06/07/2020 22:22

@MashedPotatoBrainz that sounds like absolute hell and I'm sorry that you've been struggling so much to be heard about getting your badge renewed. I can't get my head around the reason why it's being made so difficult for you. From a stranger's point of view, it really does sound like some of the medical professionals you are dealing with are really playing your illness down on your notes. It's depressing to consider the alternative idea that for some reason the government are tasked with and rewarded for rejecting a certain number of applications, similar to what I've heard about how universal credit/JSA is sanctioned. It certainly wouldn't surprise me, but regardless it would be a horrendous practice to adopt and I really hope there's nothing like that going on. I sincerely hope this gets fixed and you're able to access what you need and feel supported.

ginghamstarfish · 06/07/2020 23:00

I don't quite understand how you need a wider parking space for this?

Kaxi · 06/07/2020 23:12

@ginghamstarfish

I don't quite understand how you need a wider parking space for this?
It helps with the proximity to the shop or other establishment
JuanNil · 07/07/2020 00:04

@ginghamstarfish

The way I understand the problem is that people with hidden disabilities such as severe anxiety simply require access to disabled parking. They may not need access to a wider parking space, but that's not something they can challenge or specify when applying for their badge. This doesn't mean they shouldn't apply. The same logic is applicable to people with physical disabilities. Not all of them require wider spaces. However it's generally accepted that this isn't their fault and shouldn't be a reason for them not to apply for any reasonable concessions. The general consensus so far on the thread has been that although there is confusion around the need for larger spaces for certain disabilities, the people applying for badges aren't able to solve these issues and so it's not helpful to them or to you to ask 'why they need it', as access to a wider space is not what they're applying for. So the answer is 'they don't need a wider space, but they still need access to a disabled space'.

You don't have to understand. It's not up to you, me or anyone else to understand. The rules for claiming are set out and if OP fits the criteria, with evidence to back it up she should get her BB:
Socialdistancegintonic · 07/07/2020 00:43

@x2boys

My son has a blue badge *@Jaxhog* he can walk ,run ,jump as well as anyone however he got it as he has severe autism and learning disabilities and gets High rate mobility under severe mental impairment rules and is automatically entitled to a blue badge he has absolutely no awareness of danger.
I never realized it could include lack of awareness of danger? Sorry if this is de-railing - but like the OPs question - was lack of awareness of danger something you had to prove? Like with a report or specific wording in a report? Or was it the fact that he had a degree or severity and learning difficulties also in an official report?

If you had to be specific about wording on official diagnosis it might help the OP.

DivineTruth · 07/07/2020 01:17

@ExhaustedBeyondBelief

My partner had massive issues walking.

Drs told him that he would potentially need both feet off and he wasnt entitled to a blue badge......

As opposed to if he HAD actually had both feet off. POTENTIALLY we could have all manner of disabilities.
ElevenSmiles · 07/07/2020 01:32

gingham...Don't you know you shouldn't be asking a perfectly reasonable question....Some posters don't like it.
I'll answer able bodied ppl don't need wider spaces, wheelchair users like my son do.

Kaxi · 07/07/2020 02:15

gingham...Don't you know you shouldn't be asking a perfectly reasonable question....Some posters don't like it.
Several posters have already explained why people can need the badges and that it's not to do with wider space. They have explained why those with hidden disabilities can need to use disabled spots and that it's not for the wider space.
I'm a blue badge holder, without it I wouldn't be able to use a supermarket , there should be a mix of wider spaces and normal sized ones, but I can't not use it until that day arrives.
