I'm 21 years old not pregnant, try searching the internet about eye floater positive stories and mumsnet appears. I have eye floater from March 2019, only in the right eye, and really annoying, I feel my life has no meaning. Already check to optician and he said its only floater dont need to worry. Don't know if my reaction is too severe or anything. But really felt very desperate, i search on google they said in only apppear on older people but im just 21??!! Really make me sad and sad :( I see a black line, maybe there are 2-3 long lines, and some spots always move every time I move my eyes. Very depressed. Sometimes feeling life has no meaning because every day I cry and despair. I dont know people who has them and feel im alone in this, in my family only me who has this eye floater. Please for anyone who has an eye floater and is used to them and is not bothered at all please tell me your story, please comment to give me hope that I can too. The stories from you will definitely help me a lot, please share your stories, IT WILL HELP ME A LOT!! And please no negative stories, only positive ones !! Thankyouu . Smile

Hey there

I also suddenly developed eye floaters when I was 25.

Like you, I see black lines. Before the doctor diagnosed them, I kept thinking there was a spider in front of my face, really annoying.

Mine float around, and are particularly noticeable in bright daylight and when I move my head (they follow movement).

They are rather annoying, and initially distressing too (so back when I first got them, they don't distress me any more).

I would say that, at least in my case, you do get used to them. They occasionally still annoy me a tiny bit, but most pf the time I completely forget about them.

I don't think they are dangerous or indicate that you will go on to have any problems with your vision.

I think you will get used to them in time.

Be kind to yourself: give yourself some months to adjust.

Take care x

Hi magicroundabout321 ! Thanks for the reply. how long does it take until you get used to it? How is your floaters? do you also see floaters when looking at a computer or while reading? Have you learn to ignore them? maybe I was too focused on them, when I didn't see them I still thought of them and started to make me sad because I couldn't see like i used to be and there would always be a disturbing black line in my vision, and the doctor said that this floater could not go away , and made me even more desperate and had to see these black lines all my life and think about this make me even more stressful. And i really have no one to talk to , they dont understand what im talking about. Hearing from you is really helpful.

Do your optician tell you what the cause of your floater? Mine cant tell me what is the cause of my floater.

And im from indonesia , i cant speak english fluently, sorry if you found my english is a little weird.

Magicroundabout321 · 22/07/2019 13:36

Your English is fine, excellent actually!

No, nobody has ever told me the cause.

I don't have any tips other than that time will help. You will get used to them. I do believe that.

They are frustrating and annoying, but you will get used to them and less aware of them being there.

Magicroundabout321 · 22/07/2019 21:28

How are you doing? Cake

I noticed the floaters in my eyes more today after our chat! I was out and thought, wow, I must tell you about that when I get home - it means I usually don't notice them any more.

I really think they will bother you less in the future.

It's normal to be upset at first, and I was too. I still don't like them, but I mostly forget they're there.

take care x

Goforitgirl · 22/07/2019 21:29

Weirdly I get these on one particular stretch of road I drive to work. I wonder if it’s the way the light hits my eyes on that road.

Changemynamexchangemyname · 22/07/2019 21:32

I have them, have had them for years and I honestly don’t ever think about them. Your brain will learn to ignore them, but I know how easy it can be to become a bit obsessed with them. Maybe try a distraction technique when they bother you, close your eyes for a few moments and do some mindfulness exercises and deep breathing. It sounds to me like you are anxious about them, they really are harmless and you will get past this feeling in time.

Magicroundabout321 · 22/07/2019 21:34

@Goforitgirl

I know what you mean. I think it might well be the light in your eyes.

I also notice mine in certain places - the main one is in my kitchen. We have 4 Velux windows in the kitchen, so there's a lot of bright light and then looking at the white walls, the floaters are more visible.

Looking at a white background, white walls, bright daylight - those are all the times my floaters are visible.

But, OP, don't despair xxx They won't attract your attention much in the future (I think the brain learns to ignore them!)

Lwmommy · 22/07/2019 21:38

I get these, they are tiny, microscopic particles in the vitreous fluid in your eyeball.

There isn't a guaranteed way to get rid of them. I had to have surgery on my retina which involved removing all the vitreous fluid and then letting it regrow. I still have floaters.

One of the best tips I can give is to get tinted lenses, even just a pair of light tinted sunglasses will help. Bright light makes then floaters more visible. A couple of weeks of wearing tinted lenses should help to make them less noticeable and you will get used to not seeing them.

WiltedDaffs · 23/07/2019 00:57

I got a few floaters appear when I was 21, all black dots or lines.

I'm not sure how long it's taken, but I don't notice them now. They're still there, I might occasionally see them when looking at something bright but most everyday things - and even now looking at my brightish laptop screen - my brain has tuned them out.

TynesideBlonde · 23/07/2019 01:15

My son has this. He first described it to me when he was 4. He’s nearly 6 now and doesn’t notice it as much. He sees black dots and lines but also colours on plain, flat surfaces, particularly in bright light. I think it’s commin for your brain to tune it out as others have said.

feren · 23/07/2019 04:15

First i wanna to thank you all again for the response , really it helped me so much to know that someone who have the same condition with me are coping just fine with the floaters!

@Magicroundabout321
Hi, yes im still worrying and thinking about the floaters. Wow your story sounds funny and really cheering me up, its mean that you are thinking about floaters after our chat and see them even though you are usually not aware of them anymore! Really really thankyou for telling me that. Thats really reassuring my mom keep telling me that maybe i keep thinking about them and maybe i purposely searching for the floaters so i notice them too much! I really need to try hard to get them out of my mind!

@Goforitgirl
Yes, cause floaters tend to more noticeable when you are under bright sunlight. Have you checked out to optician? Mostly they are harmfull, but its better to be checked out.

@Changemynamexchangemyname
Yes, right now im really really obsessed over them. Even when i dont see them i keep thinking about them like "oh awful im gonna see them all my life". But story from you guys really help me a lot, and i become more sure i can learn yo ignore them too. Do you still remember how long it take for you to ignore them?

seaeagle · 23/07/2019 04:21

Floaters are not just in older people . I've had several of them, all my life that I can remember. When I was young I found them really annoying, but over time I got used to them and now I just ignore them. They are right there in front of my eyes now, as I'm looking at my PC screen, but I'm only noticing them because of your question.

Honestly, you'll get used to them and then you won't see them so much. Good luck !

feren · 23/07/2019 04:27

@Lwmommy
Do you have the surgery purposely to remove your eye floater? So now have you get used to floaters and learn to ignore them? Im still trying my best to ignore mine

@WiltedDaffs
That's the same age with me! Im also 21 and since 4 months ago i started seeing floaters. Yes, when im looking at my computer screen and working on my docs they floating around and really annoy me! Thankyou for telling me your experience, its make me believe i can tune them out too. For how long have you had floaters?

@TynesideBlonde
Yes, people here all said they had learn to ignore them and i still working on mine. Is your child now learn to ignore the floaters and get used to them? Have you get your son checked to the optician? Floaters mostly harmless, but its better to be checked out. Smile

feren · 23/07/2019 04:30

@seaeagle
For how long have you had floaters? Do you still remember how long it take for you to learn to ignore them? Yes, i really hope i can ignore them and get used to them ASAP. Thankyou for telling me your experience.

Lwmommy · 23/07/2019 06:47

My surgery was because of a detached retina, the eye floater was a possible benefit which didn't work out.

Try tinted glasses, they really helped me.

feren · 23/07/2019 06:54

@Lwmommy okay, thankyouSmile

Surfskatefamily · 23/07/2019 07:02

If had eye floaters a few years. Am 30 so think I was about 25. Iv been checked by ophthalmologist and nothing bad just one of them things. I also see colour differently in each eye. Eyes change as we get older I guess it just starts earlier for some of us

You will get used to it and need to try to not focus on it for now

feren · 23/07/2019 07:53

@Lwmommy
Hey , do you wear sunglasses all the time when you are under sunlight? Or only wear them when floaters first appearing? My mom said i shouldnot wear sunglasses in order to avoid seeing floaters, thats only make it harder for me to get used to floaters, and i think thats make sense.

@Surfskatefamily
Hey thankyou for replying. Yes, floaters is so new to me. Still find it hard to ignore them esp under bright sunlight they really annoy me so much! Have you got used to them? Can you ignore them when you see them now?

Lwmommy · 23/07/2019 08:33

I have transitions lenses in my glasses so they turn dark when in bright light.

Wearing tinted lenses with UV protection in bright lights is good for your eyes anyway

https://nei.nih.gov/hvm/healthyeyess_glasses

The tinted lenses allow you to not see or forget that the floaters are there after a couple of weeks your brain has kind of filtered them away so that they are less noticeable with or without the sunglasses

feren · 23/07/2019 08:55

@Lwmommy
Oh, okay, thankyou for the explanationSmile

MellowMelly · 23/07/2019 09:27

Yes I have one and it looks like a small bit of wiggly string floating around in my eye, more noticeable when I read, I’m tired or my eyes are a little dry.

It’s just become normal really. It used to irritate the life out of me initially as I kept seeing it and obviously wanted it out of my eye. Then I just got used to it and it really doesn’t bother me anymore. I sort of ‘look’ past it now if that makes sense. Excuse the punGrin

feren · 23/07/2019 10:02

@MellowMelly
Thankyou for taking time to reply!
yes, mine too also look like long wiggly string. Mine are most noticeable under bright sunlight, whenever i moves they also move and its really irritatingSadyes i feel just like you i wanted it out of my eye! Do you notice them under bright sunlight? How can you ignore them?

feren · 23/07/2019 10:02

I mean whenever i moves my eyes they also move

interminablehellishwhatever · 23/07/2019 10:22

I've had them since I was at least 14, and I'm early 50s now. I remember a classmate telling me about his one day and we were giggling about both having them and the effect was a bit like space invaders! I never really think about them anymore, they certainly don't interfere with my peace of mind! i' ve got lots of them, some like little flies buzzing about and in my right eye it's more like a long wave coming in from the side. I never really felt bad about it. I guess I could let it freak me out but what's the point, it has never bothered me much. Like others I hardly notice them and when I do I'm so used to having them, just a fact of life for me! I'm thinking about them now and noticing them because of this thread, but in a few minutes I'll forget about them again, probably for years!

I would say get checked out for migraines, as I'm convinced there's a connection in my case. I've suffered frequent migraines since my teens and that has given me problems. I'm finally on daily medication for them, which is making some difference. But I mention it because I've had migraine with aura, which can be a bit scary if you don't know what it is when you get them. Maybe the floaters are connected, don't know for sure. I also have astigmatism in both eyes, have had since childhood.
