I'm 21 years old not pregnant, try searching the internet about eye floater positive stories and mumsnet appears. I have eye floater from March 2019, only in the right eye, and really annoying, I feel my life has no meaning. Already check to optician and he said its only floater dont need to worry. Don't know if my reaction is too severe or anything. But really felt very desperate, i search on google they said in only apppear on older people but im just 21??!! Really make me sad and sad :( I see a black line, maybe there are 2-3 long lines, and some spots always move every time I move my eyes. Very depressed. Sometimes feeling life has no meaning because every day I cry and despair. I dont know people who has them and feel im alone in this, in my family only me who has this eye floater. Please for anyone who has an eye floater and is used to them and is not bothered at all please tell me your story, please comment to give me hope that I can too. The stories from you will definitely help me a lot, please share your stories, IT WILL HELP ME A LOT!! And please no negative stories, only positive ones !! Thankyouu . Smile

ps. I wear tinted prescription lenses in my glasses a lot during the day.

Enclume · 23/07/2019 10:25

I have about 20 of them, have done so as long as I can remember.

You get used to them and don't notice them most of the time unless you think about it.

@interminablehellishwhatever
Hi, thankyou for the long reply!
I really do hope i can ignore them and can go on with my life. I was a carefree person and not easily worried. But because floaters, i worrying and worrying everyday. What if i cant ignore them? What if i cant get used to them? What if they get worse? And many many thought and feel depressed again. I still cant understand how i can ignore them even though i see them and they keep floating around!

@Enclume
Hi thankyou for replying!
Do you get used to them now? Have you ever been annoyed by them?

MellowMelly · 23/07/2019 13:26

@feren
I’m more likely to see it in sunlight if I have sunglasses on. When I blink it floats up to the right corner of my eye and then I see it drift back down. Now as I type this I’ve seen it twice haha. I also have something called ‘ghosting’ which is a constant blurry spot in my right eye. That’s far more annoying than my floaters which at least move out of the way when I blink.

You do honestly get used to it. It’s hard to explain. It’s there but it no longer bothers me.

feren · 23/07/2019 14:25

@MellowMelly
Hi, thanks for replying again!
Thankyou that's really reassuring and i become more positive that i can ignore them too! Do you still remember how long it take for you to finally learn to ignore them?

MellowMelly · 23/07/2019 16:04

@feren
Well it’s a long time ago now but I know it took a while as I tried all sorts of different eye drops and eye make up out before I decided that I definitely couldn’t get rid of them Grin

feren · 24/07/2019 03:48

@MellowMelly
Yes, my optician said there's only small posibility for them to go away. So i dont try anything to get rid of them. Yeah but still struggling to ignore them. But knowing your story really encourage me. Thankyou for taking time to chat with me! I really appreciate thatSmile

TynesideBlonde · 24/07/2019 19:41

Yes @feren he’s been checked by two opticians and all is well. The both opticians said eye floaters are more common in children than you might think. I suppose it’s easier for someone to get used to floaters if they’ve had them since being very young than if they suddenly develop as an adult.

feren · 25/07/2019 05:43

@TynesideBlonde
Yes, and im still working to get used with mine. Btw thankyou for taking time to replying meSmileSmile

feren · 29/07/2019 12:24

Im sorry if you guys are getting tired of this topic. But can i really stop noticing this black lines and black dots floaters? I keep seeing them and really frustrating and annoying. Can i really really get used to them and stop noticing them? Can i really learn to ignore them in the future? Sad

Lwmommy · 29/07/2019 16:55

Yes yo can, but you need to find a way to put it out of your mind and think about something else.

Have you tried tinted lenses as has been suggested and has worked for some other people?

You need to distract yourself.

StarlingsInSummer · 29/07/2019 16:59

Gosh, I’ve had these for years and years! Definitely since my 20s. If you’ve had an optician have a look and they’re not worried it’s anything sinister, you really don’t need to fret. After a while they disappear - apparently your brain just trains itself not to see them, or they fall to the bottom of the eyeball due to gravity.

I do think, with love, that you desperately need to see a GP about your feelings of anxiety and depression though.

edgen2019 · 29/07/2019 17:05

I have floaters in both eyes, they are more obvious if I look at a light coloured wall or anything with a white background. You do get used to them after a while, I also have visual migraine from time to time, the optician tells me there is no link, but if the floaters increase in number to check again with him so he can examine the eyes. I also have a special wash on my glasses, so when out in sunlight my eyes are protected. Try not to worry your brain will readjust in time, but always handy to have regular checks with optician. Sorry this is so long winded!

feren · 29/07/2019 17:17

@Lwmommy
Yes, i've tried a pair of light tinted sunglasses. But still see them they were too noticeable. Its horrible.
@StarlingsInSummer
Does your floaters also look like stringy line? Do you not notice the floaters anymore now? I cant understand how to not see them even though i saw them.

StarlingsInSummer · 29/07/2019 17:39

Yes, that’s exactly what they look like. They really annoyed me to start with, but now I have to concentrate to see them, while staring at a light background. I dint think you can make yourself see past/through them - it’s just something your brain does itself if you stop thinking about them. Every time you notice them, just blink and try hard to think about something else, and eventually they won’t bother you any more. You just have to make yourself focus on something else.

feren · 30/07/2019 05:47

@edgen2019
I dont have migraine. And I hv checked to the opt and he said my eyes are healthy but i have these annoying floatersSadDo you also have stringy line floaters? Do you still remeber how long it take for you to get used to them?

feren · 30/07/2019 12:56

@StarlingsInSummer they are right in front of my eyes i cant ignore them and not thinking about themSad this afternoon i went for a walk at the bazaar near my house, the sun is so bright and all i could see was the floaters flying right to left and up to down really annoying! I really really hope i can stop noticing them one day.

StarlingsInSummer · 30/07/2019 14:01

Every time you see them, think about something else. If they're big enough to actually stop you seeing something, to cover your field of vision in large areas, then they're not floaters and you should go back to your optician. But if it's just a wiggly line, think about something else. I only see mine when I look for them now.

edgen2019 · 30/07/2019 14:10

Feren, my floaters look a bit like tiny tadpoles, it took me a while to get used to them but now I don't even notice they are there. They don't interfere with my sight at all. Wish you well. Starling gave good advice every time you see them think about something else.

feren · 31/07/2019 11:59

@StarlingsInSummer

No, they arent that big until they can stop me seeing something. And yes i've checked to the opt and he said "they're just floaters" Yes, they look like wiggly line, and spots sometimes cloud. Do you have lots of floaters? Under sunlight, are your floaters still there but you just dont aware of them anymore? Sorry if im asking too many question.

feren · 31/07/2019 14:16

@edgen2019
Thankyou for taking time to share your story. I hope i can ignore this annoying floater soon!

StarlingsInSummer · 01/08/2019 16:00

If I look for them, eg look at a white background and move my eyes, I can see them. But I never notice them unless I look for them not UNLESS I get a new one... then I notice it for a bit til my brain edits it out. They don't upset me. Just try really hard not to think about them. Whenever you see them because you're looking at a light background, look somewhere else and most crucially, THINK about something else. Every time.

Floralnomad · 01/08/2019 16:06

OP , you are not going to want to hear this but I’ve had floaters in my left eye since Feb 2016 , I’m older and was originally diagnosed with VD but when I went for a specialist opinion it wasn’t exactly that . I get floaters and a windscreen wiper effect and it has not improved at all and for some reason my brain has failed to adjust to ignore them however I am used to it and don’t let it bother me .

feren · 02/08/2019 05:41

@StarlingsInSummer
It was kind of distract my mind from thinking of them right? I think my fear of them is to big, whenever i reminded that these floaters is something i have to deal for the rest of my life i started to feeling scared again. But i have to try harder now, to not thinking about them and not dwelling on them anymore. Thankyou for your tipsSmile

StarlingsInSummer · 02/08/2019 09:36

Try not too think about the future being blighted by then. Truly, you won't even see them soon enough. I bet in a couple of months you won't even think about them unless something reminds you.
