I have taking these for many years now (on and off), with no real side effects.

Takes a little while for them to work properly (21 days) IME.

They will help you, should you find they do not, do not hesitate to contact your GP and they can prescribe you another.

Take Care.

LeafTurner · 22/07/2007 15:24

I've been taking them for 6 days now ! Have felt slightly nauseaous and slightly spacey - but not too bad. My GP said that the first 2 weeks was the worst - then you shoud get the benefits and the side effects go !

cheekymonk · 22/07/2007 15:25

Hi there, I found them fantastic at first. for ages everything had seemed sl cloudy but I was more focused and felt better after being on them a couple of weeks. a year later I don't feel they have much effect so am considering coming off the. They really helped me. Try not to be scared and see them as a way to get back to the real you.
Only side effect i had was the slight drowsiness and spaced out feeling at first. Have had no others. Good luck x

Transparent · 22/07/2007 15:26

Yes you may feel a little spacey but nothing to worry about..... quite chilled ime

I also started sleeping better after first week.

huffpuff · 23/07/2007 12:49

well, took my first one this morning and i feel a bit sick - is this normal and would it happen that quickly?

OP posts:
huffpuff · 23/07/2007 12:50

also, do anti d's affect weight?

OP posts:
chopster · 23/07/2007 12:57

sickness is common to start wiht, especially if you take them on an empty stomach. I think I ended up having to take them in the evenings to start with to avoid that.
They can reduce appetite, so you can lose weight initially on them. Agree with the spaciness too. You jsut have to perservere, the side effects should dissapear fairly quickly.

LeafTurner · 23/07/2007 13:09

Yes I felt sick after first one huff-puff, today I feel a bit better and that's 7 I've taken now !

I haven't been very hungry actually - I could do with losing a few stone - so that would be a bonus !

huffpuff · 23/07/2007 13:20

thanks guys - have had them for 2 weeks but was so scared to take them! Finally decided i had no other choice but to start them today. The only way is up!!!

I have been taking them for about 10 weeks now. The first two weeks are the worse. Take them in the morning as opposed to at night though.

nightshade · 23/07/2007 14:16

def. take them!

i've used them on and off over several years and i believe everyone should have a go at them.

if used properly, it's like having your eyes spring cleaned, everything has colour again as opposed to grey! absolutely nothing to be scared of.

entropy · 23/07/2007 21:09

I was also prescribed Floexitine for PND and I also took my first one today. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing going down the AD route but I've been hoping for a magical other way to turn up for months now and I need to do something before I waste any more time I could be enjoying having a daughter. I hope Floexitine works for you huffpuff, it helped me to come on here and see that I wasn't the only one going through this. thanks for posting.

huffpuff · 23/07/2007 22:02

i have posted on here before recently about not knowing whether taking anti d's was the right way to go - but i have just been feeling so low that i had to give it a go - i hope it works for you too! Let me know how you get on X

Oh ladies - my dd is almost 7 and I have PND !! Have been in denial almost the whole time - did see doc when she was 3 - took Citalopram for 3 mths - didn't work so stopped and never went back ! Am now on the Fluoextine - 7 days in - and am so hoping to feel like ME again !

I have tried to deal with it my way - but have failed and am so miserable that I am tryig Ads aain. Haven't told dh - he doesn't believe in drepression - but I think I am strating to feel better already - so let's support each other on here ! Good Luck

entropy · 23/07/2007 22:51

LeafTurner 7 I really hope you can turn things around this time. Hopefully we will be able to support each other on MN

I've told my DH about the ADs. mainly to spur him to get some himself as his PND is far worse than mine (he has to have everything worse...) I can't bring myself to tell close friends or my mum and I know I really should (cos they care and they will be hurt that I am keeping my problems from them) but they will want me to talk about things and I can't do that yet. maybe if the Floexitine stops me feeling so sad all the time I will be able to talk to them...

doormat · 23/07/2007 22:54

brilliant little things

everything flies over the top of me head
take em and enjoy

burstingbug · 23/07/2007 22:59

I have them sitting on a shelf untouched. My Dr wants me to stop breast feeding before I start them

Bainmarie · 23/07/2007 23:07

Was on and off them for about 4 years, I didn't really notice any side effects.

YorkshireMumming · 23/07/2007 23:13

Became me again! absolutely shit scared of taking them (felt like I'd got one hell of an additive personality), no sideeffects other than the woolly feeling was lifted! and they worked wonders for 6 or so months. When the time came and I felt ready I just weened them off gradually. I did tell close friends who were open minded, others didn't need to know. And the best thing about the whole experience.... I'd take them again tomorrow in a flash if I needed them. Treat them like crutches - cos right now you need something to lean on, good luck hon.

huffpuff · 24/07/2007 19:51

2nd day in and still have that sick feeling and spaced out feeling! Good thing in a way though as everything is just going over my head!

Fingers crossed they help!
Thank you for all your posts

If it helps I've taken floexitine, although it wasn't for PND, just the depression that I usually suffer from. I don't recall any side effects but I can say that it saved my life. Without the medication I wouldn't be typing this now, I can tell you. And after taking it for a year I came off with no problems too.

In fact my first baby is due in Jan 08 and I'm already worried about PND, simply because of my history of depression. And, honestly, I'll have no prob going back on the meds if I can't escape the black dog.

Everyone is different and you have to shout if you don't like the side effects but they are well worth a try. Stick with it!

Good luck.

Sx

huffpuff · 25/07/2007 19:27

3 days in now and today i have been feeling very sick and extremely spaced out to the point where i could have easily fallen asleep at my desk!

Is it normal to feel chilled and relaxed so early in?

OP posts:
macneil · 25/07/2007 19:37

My experiences: yawned ALL THE TIME. Lost interest in shopping and overeating. I could still overeat, but I could also take it or leave it, so I usually decided to leave it, and lost the weight I'd put on when I went on the pill, became incredibly depressed, and gained 20 pounds that wouldn't shift for a year. Felt kind of numb most of the time. Handwriting got very large, unaccountably. Sort of felt a bit, hm, now what? Slept worse, although that may have been because I went to bed hungry a lot because I couldn't be bothered to eat. No bad side effects. Just didn't like the absence of highs, that used to go with the lows. (I'm not like bi-polar, I just noticed that I had previously had giddier moments that were now never there.) A good drug for people who are depressed, I think, it can get you out of a rut.

macneil · 25/07/2007 19:37

Oh, sorry for double post, and it took about 3 days for the physical changes and 2 weeks for the mental changes to take place.

saythatagain · 26/07/2007 17:33

Take them! It was the best thing I ever did. If it doesn't sound too over the top, I think it saved me from me IYKWIM? Life has become colourful again. Agree with the other posters in that you feel a bit sicky for a couple of days (maybe even a bit longer) but the benefits far outweight that. Good luck x
