To think I’m not starving myself!?

LellowYedbetter · 16/03/2019 12:59

Last year I put on a stone in weight. Coincidentally around the time I started taking quetiapine.

I’ve recently gone cold turkey on the bastards and the weight is falling off me. I’m not trying to lose weight, my appetite has just gone back to the way it used to be.

So yesterday I had a cereal bar for breakfast. A few quality streets for lunch and a portion of fish and chips from chippy for tea ... although I only ate half of that and have saved the rest for today.

Today I didn’t have breakfast but had the left over fish and chips at 12. Tonight I’ll have a homemade burger but I don’t want chips because I’ve gone off them and I know I won’t be hungry enough.

Typical day during the week - cereal bar for breakfast. Mackerel on toast for lunch and 2 fajitas for tea.

DH drinks from red cups when they’re mine says I’m starving myself and should see a doctor. Since when did it become abnormal to only eat when you’re actually hungry?? I’ve always had a crap appetite. It’s normal for me

OP you should never stop antipsychotics without supervision.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2019 13:31

I agree with Purple. Let's not worry about your diet for the time being. It's actually not very important in the short term.

The best thing you can do at the moment is to make an appointment with your prescribing doctor. They can't make you take your medication, that's still under your control. But they can check that you are ok and work with you to help you be ok.

Babygrey7 · 16/03/2019 13:31

Vegetables, fruit juice, all would add some vitamins!

It sounds a very sad diet, not very nutritious

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2019 13:32

Your diet is awful and actually even although you arent hungry, you should try and eat healthily. I would get checked out by a doctor as having no appetite can be a sign of something else.

Aridane · 16/03/2019 13:32

You sound very unwell TBH

cuppycakey · 16/03/2019 13:34

Ah, Ok, I just googled quetiapine.

OP, I don't think you are supposed to stop taking this medication without telling your doctor? Going cold turkey could be quite difficult and cause a range o problems? Are you taking another/replacement prescription drug to treat your symptoms. Why did you stop taking the drug?

I think maybe you should go to doctor and explain what's going on. Flowers

LellowYedbetter · 16/03/2019 13:34

By cereal bar I mean nature valley oat bar things. Not the crappy coco pop types.

I can’t eat fruit as it’s too sweet and makes me bloat up and gives me stomach ache.

I think you need to see a doctor and get this all sorted.

sobernotjustforoctober · 16/03/2019 13:34

And your point is.....?

pigsDOfly · 16/03/2019 13:35

I had to google Quietapine as had no idea what it is.

Going cold turkey, certainly without medical supervision, for those sort of drugs is very unwise.

Your way of eating is disordered and extremely unhealthy.

Please speak to your doctor. If you're unhappy with the drug you're on you need to discuss it with a medical practitioner.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/03/2019 13:36

Your diet is awful- by that I don't mean diet= lack of food, I mean the quality of what you eat.

Fish, chips, burgers, sweets...

where's your 5 a day of fruit and veg? Pulses, nuts, dairy, good fats?

You are eating crap.

Are you aware of healthy eating advice?

Hoppinggreen · 16/03/2019 13:36

OP your diet sounds bad and your eating is a bit disordered but I think that you have more urgent issues to deal with.
I don’t think that stopping anti psychotics suddenly and not discussing it with your GP is a good idea, you don’t sound very well. Do you have a MH support worker or anything you can contact?

pigsDOfly · 16/03/2019 13:36

x post with cuppycakey

trulybadlydeeply · 16/03/2019 13:36

The constant nausea may well be as a result of stopping your medication so abruptly. You really need to seek some medical guidance - it may be that it might be fine for you to not be on them now, but you need medical support to monitor your symptoms, and to ensure that you are keeping well.

It sounds like your DH is quite worried about you?

LellowYedbetter · 16/03/2019 13:37

I was on a low dose of quetiapine (50mg) and the doctor wanted to increase it to 100mg. I wouldn’t have been able to function. I’m only just hanging onto my part time job as it is. I don’t trust that the doctors have best interests at heart to be honest. It’s all about covering themselves and looking good in the notes. I’m ok, honestly. I just wish I had more energy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2019 13:37

I've just seen that you said you feel fine. Please, still do and go and see your doctor. You can tell them that you feel fine and that you don't like the medication, that's ok to do so. But just let them know.

BlueCornishPixie · 16/03/2019 13:37

Your diet is fucking awful.

You are starving yourself, if you are losing weight rapidly then you are not eating enough simple as.

You need to eat more fruit and veg. Yes it's good to eat when your hungry but if you are never hungry then of course you need to eat at a different time. It wouldn't take much to just have some tomatoes with your toast. A banana for breakfast and then some peas with tea. That's already 3 portions there plus maybe some fruit juice. And work up from there.

Tbh if I don't eat enough I feel sick and not hungry, I think it's low blood sugar. I now know than means I need to eat something proper.

You need to go to your dr, you really shouldn't stop taking quietiapine without speaking to a Dr or go cold turkey!

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2019 13:37

More energy will come with a better diet.

You really need to see your doctor. You don’t sound well at all.

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 16/03/2019 13:38

Sorry but you sound unwell. I’m with your DH.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2019 13:38

They may be able to swap you over to something else instead that's less sedating. We obviously don't know your history or what you've been on before, but there may be other options.

funnelfanjo · 16/03/2019 13:38

If you’ve gone cold turkey on your MH medication and are not discussing with your doctors then I think there are probably other issues going on. Your DH is right to be worried, your appetite is a red herring.

JinglingHellsBells · 16/03/2019 13:39

Your lack of energy is down to lack of nutrition.

Honestly, have you - seriously- not seen anything about how to eat healthily?

I think you need to spend some time online and get a grip of what you ought to be eating for health.

Your diet reads like one of those 'this is the most unhealthy food anyone could eat.'

sylviemc · 16/03/2019 13:39

a stomach or appetite can be trained and is more about attitude to food than anything - you don't need to eat that much but you do need to eat well enough to sustain your body as a healthy functional human and especially as a mum - if you don't you will find health issues build up over time and you might not be much good as a mum if your own health is compromised too much - whatever you get away with when younger will catch up later on - that is just how it is - the body can only compensate for so long - supplements better than nothing but not the best option xx
