A&E for panic attacks?

I can’t cope anymore , I’m convinced of all sorts of horrible things and stuck in chemist next door to my house as I can’t cross the road. Not sure if A&E would or could help as it isn’t an emergency as such ? I’m terrified though .

I worked in A&E for a few years and I dont think it will help. Will only direct you to your GP. Or search on the net for your local IAPT service if you are in England, most have a self referral link. Some info on anxiety might help to keep you grounded. www.efficacy.org.uk/blog/anxiety-treatment-with-cbt/what-anxiety-can-do-to-your-body/
The link might help to explain what is happening if it is panic

I’m in Scotland.

Happened again today , at university , I wound up in a first aid room for an hour and then taken to student support where I sat in an office for another hour and a half . They arranged me an appt with GP who gave me diazepam to help me settle . So far it hasn’t done much except make me feel a bit strange . Hopefully will fall asleep soon : it’s leaving the house that’s triggering it off , it’s a horrible horrible feeling .

I am surprised the diazepam did not help, and surprised he gave it to you, indicates the level of anxiety you are in.

That is a shame - services in Scotland are thin on the ground. Good to hear that you are on the waiting list for CBT. In the meantime, all the work you would do with a CBT therapist will be in here www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1854877011/efficacy-21?tag=mumsnetforum-21
"Overcoming Panic" it is a self help book but will have all you need to know about panic and the CBT techniques. The book has been shown to help in English IAPT services for people with panic. The info is good but if you do not feel you can do the techniques wait until you see your CBT therapist, but you will be in a better position with this prep under your belt. Do try to keep in mind that anxiety is safe reaction in the body, and although it might feel that you are losing control, keep in mind what does happen - it is transient and will pass. Following on from my link abover this info might help until you get the book www.efficacy.org.uk/blog/anxiety-treatment-with-cbt/is-anxiety-dangerous/#content but do try the book, as i say, all the techniques are in there.

It’s aorked a bit now in as much as I’ve got double vision and can’t stay awake, and hands shaking. Still very anxious but can’t express it so easily if that makes sense. No balance at all. Have had a long talk with uni lecturer, my mum, another lecturer and uni counselling, to see them again today.

Sounds like you are having a lot of horrid physical symptoms and it is hard to put into words something that we have no words for - when it is off the scale it is off the scale. Good to hear you are talking to people, it can be half the battle, and I am reading that you have a few people around. Mum must be worried. Keep on trying the GP, sometime they can push / follow up a referral - everything is prioritised and if they know the update then then can assess who is seen next.
