I've the most horrible day. I lost the plot over something very trivial in the grand scheme of things and ended up having a massive row with a DH. The children were upset, I was upset, DH was upset.
I have since apologised to everyone and am feeling very down about what happened. Tonight my period has started and I just know that my erratic behaviour is down to that. The week leading up to it I am a nightmare and I know it but I just cannot help it.

Has anyone else had this happen and if so what the heck can I do to change it? I can't carry on like this as I will end up divorced with 2 very sad dc's. I feel such a complete lowlife this evening. My family mean the world to me. I am just awful.😥

Yes, diet and exercise definitely make a difference. I can t stop eating sugary stuff the week before my period, but the rest if the time, I don't even like it! I'd much rather eat cheeseGrin

I really would go and see your dr, if you think your Ads aren't helping, she may change them to something else which may help.

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 20:58

Thank you Woods it's so nice to talk to people on here who understand. It is making me very unhappy.
I must make more effort with diet ' exercise.

Just so you know there's an awesome support group on Facebook! It's called PMDD UK :)

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 21:25

Thank you revolution but would my friends & family be able to see if I joined it?

OP posts:
revolution909 · 24/07/2017 21:28

Nope, it's private :). There are also two spin off ones, one for mums, and one that focuses on diet/exercise

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 21:34

Thank you I think I've found it but not sure how to find the spin off ones? I'd be especially keen to see the diet & exercise one. Does it have a name I can search for?

UK pmdd diet support you should be able to find it that way :)

Honey1975 I got it in a box from Holland & Barratt. I just take one a day as per the instructions. Not sure what the actual dosage is - can check in the morning.

Years ago I took it to help regulate my cycles which were 10+ weeks due to pcos. First month went to 30 days! Second month I was pregnant! So I knew they had a dramatic effect on me! My sister also swears by it for dreadful pmt. My PMT was every symptom in the book (although usually only 2-3 symptoms each month but overall every symptom!) Mood swings were horrendous and I hated what I was doing to my DH and children! That was for 2 weeks each month! So much better now.

Borntoflyinfirst · 24/07/2017 22:05

I also find exercise improves my mood dramatically. I started couch to 5k and it really did help doing some exercise 2-3 times a week.

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 22:13

Thank you so much borntofly, I actually feel quite excited to hear how much it helped you. I couldn't get to the shop today but will definitely get them this week.
Hopefully they will work a bit before my big family holiday!

My PMS is worsening as I approach the menopause, although it's always been pretty horrendous. I found this site helpful www.studd.co.uk/meno_pms_clinic.php and am contemplating his regime.

Fluoxetine did nothing for me (and I had awful side effects and terrible withdrawal after I stopped).

Honey1975 · 24/07/2017 22:37

I wonder why some people get it worse than others? Surely it's the same principle going on for everyone..

I take magnesium supplements plus a high strength St. John's wort tablet daily.
It's improving.

The alternative was to go back on the mini pill which I don't want to do.

Honey1975 · 25/07/2017 11:37

Did the mini pill help you ihatethecold

OP posts:
ihatethecold · 25/07/2017 17:18

The minipill stops very painful periods but it also killed my sex drive!!
I came off it a year ago.
I suppose it did help pmt but my life was so stressful that I really don't know what was stress and what was hormones.

Since I came off the pill my cycle is much shorter but zero pain.

Borntoflyinfirst · 25/07/2017 18:24

I really hope you find something that helps. Like I say I'm not perfect but usually more 'normal' pmt now rather than horrendous symptoms for half the month! I'm 43 by the way so another one heading for menopause! (I was 35 when I took previously and fell pg- not exactly an accident as we weren't using contraception but not actively ttc either - she was our 3rd)

Honey1975 · 25/07/2017 20:59

Aah can't believe it gets even worse towards menopause😩

I am off to Holland & Barrett tomorrow to get the Agnus. Fingers crossed for me it works!!
borntofly how long did you take it for before you noticed your pms symptoms/mood improving?

I am also going to attempt a run (jog) tomorrow evening when dh gets home!

Do you take Vit D op?

BlueUggs · 25/07/2017 21:53

My GO prescribed me Prozac 20mg but I found it made me incredibly anxious and I felt terrible. I'm now on sertraline 50mg and feel loads better!

Honey1975 · 25/07/2017 22:01

I do take Vit D when I remember but not always every day.

That's interesting BlueUggs about the prozac. I have always been too scared to change to something else in case it is even less effective.

OP posts:
BlueUggs · 25/07/2017 23:08

I accidentally stopped taking the Prozac- I had a 5 day business trip and forget to take it with me. I felt like a new person after the five days but found I was still struggling a lot during the week running up to my period. I feel great on the Sertraline - no mood swings, no horrendous overwhelming inability to cope, no physical pains or total lethargy.

Honey1975 · 25/07/2017 23:24

So do you just take the sertraline in that week or do you take it all the time.
I definitely don't feel good on the prozac & my libido is zero I'm sure because of it, but when I tried to come off it I felt even worse. I feel like I am stuck with it.

Just bought the Agnus and taken it. Fingers crossed it works!

This thread reminded me, I started taking b multivits a few months ago religiously and this period I got no PMT at all. I got the usual clumsy scatterbrained thing the day before it started but no flashes of anger or irritability.

It may be coincidence but it's the only thing I changed.

Honey1975 · 26/07/2017 11:34

Gamerchick sorry what was it you take, a general multivitamin?
