Does anybody else take Venlafaxine?

I've been taking 150mg Venlafaxine for nearly 3 years and it has transformed my life for the better. However I have periodically had night sweats, and they are currently really bad. Do others have this problem? Do you have ideas?
I wonder if they are related to underlying stress or hormonal change (currently stress more likely). Would be interested to hear if anybody can shed light on this.
It's not a huge problem (trivial compared to benefits for me), but making it harder to fight the tiredness/persistent cold, and not nice for DH.

Mmm, I'm of the opinion that Barbados, nanny service included so the kids can come (if they must!) villa on beach, marvellous food and a young ish blond chappie kindly massaging me would save the NHS thousands on my AD's - I only want to go for a month Grin

shesparkles · 28/03/2012 11:25

sairy I honestly feel you may have a fair point there Grin
Part of my problem is that I suffer very badly from SAD, and living on the east coast of Scotland doesn't help. I'm convinced I was born in the wrong country/continent as I positively thrive in the sunshine.
I was prescribed Venlafaxine by a psychiatrist as along with the depression I have real problems with anxiety, and this helps alleviate that

WithanAnotE · 28/03/2012 11:34

fridakahlo is right about alcohol tho. It's a depressant so effectively cancels out the AD action. Que long speech (actually was a rant) from my GP at me over my wine drinking habits Shock and a well justified dressing down Blush. And yes she was right!

WithanAnotE · 28/03/2012 11:39

Barbados would work! Smile
I am (nearly) a delightful person Grin when exposed to sunshine!
Hooray for spring, roll on summer.
Sorry about Scotland - but actually you do have a point there I think.

I was on venlafaxine for about 10 years, (after trying citalopram, then having a referral to a psychiatrist) and have recently come off them, after weaning down the dose.
I had night sweats pretty much every night while I was on them, some time multiple pyjama changes etc. I found I tended to be worse when the room was cool, and less sweaty when the room was warm - I know that seems totally backwards. But a warm room temp often meant not waking freezing with cold sweat during the night!

I had the spaced out feeling when I forgot one too, and if that doesn't remind you, you can look forward to a horrible headache and nausea until you take some.

The good news is that all the side effects seem to have gone now I'm off them, so it's not permanent.

Having mine increased and spread though the day now. Staying on it.

scarecrow22 · 28/03/2012 17:49

Well done campbelly on coming off them successfully; am told a v diff withdrawal. Hope you also feel good in yourself now. Curious, too, was it your idea or doctor's?
Good luck

ipod glad you were seen and higher dose hopefully will help. I moved up to 150 and resisted 225 only because wanted lots extra headroom for future security and because I rightly guessed that the wobbles on 150 were linked to other lifestyle stuff I should sort first before just increased meds.
Are you on modified release? If not, if this still not fully right, ask to try MR. It's more expensive so they are reluctant but for a few people can make a big difference (for most, I'm told, it doesn't, so not necessarily a problem if you're not on MR already).
Keep us posted :)

Does anyone else feel tired on this drug?

Dawnxx83 · 16/01/2015 00:38

This drug is so addictive!!! If you try to come off then I wish you luck!!!! God damn devil drug..... Worst days work I've ever done!

GraysAnalogy · 16/01/2015 00:38

Hi Dawn, this is a really old thread (three years old) so you might want to start a new topic so you can discuss it with people.

I haven't felt tired on them btw, night sweats though yes

Dawnxx83 · 16/01/2015 00:44

Yes! I feel like crap!!! Damn this drug..... Big mistake now I just can't come off it! Feel tired beyond belief and wake up soaking wet and freezing cold. I would never recommend it to anyone.... Damn doctor should try a bit of it!! This is hell..... Sorry

Dawnxx83 · 16/01/2015 00:47

Thanks, this is all new to me, not sure what I'm doing yet?

Dawnxx83 · 16/01/2015 00:49

I feel tired all the time..... Life feels awful.... Low mood and no energy. Great for anxiety but so so sad ??

GraysAnalogy · 16/01/2015 00:50

You'll get used to it don't worry! if you want to make a new thread (like this) in the mental health section click this www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feeling_depressed?call=NewConversationPage

It sounds like you could do with something new Dawn, it took me about 7 different types before I found one that worked, and even then they suddenly stop working and I have to up the dose or find something new! such a pain isn't it

GraysAnalogy · 16/01/2015 00:51

Please go back to your GP, they really aren't working for you are they. You shouldn't have to feel like that. It takes a bit of time but I'm sure you'll find something that suits you and gets you back to feeling 'normal' again. Flowers

ArabellaStrange · 16/01/2015 00:54

There is a 'thing' on mumsnet about resurrecting old threads, it is considered bad form, I don't get it myself but thems the rules!
There was a much more recent thread on this topic, it should come up if you do a search on venlafaxine.

duckwalk · 16/01/2015 00:57

Dawn I started a thread about venlafaxine about a week ago called 'venlafaxine hell' if you want to pop over there for a read and you can add to it? Yes I feel tired all the time on this drug, can literally lie down at any time of day and just sleep.

GraysAnalogy · 16/01/2015 01:04

I think it's helpful really arabella because in a lot of cases we'll be trying to reply to the OP when they've not been around for a longggg time. Especially if it's in AIBU or chat and it's long since relevant.

Hopefully speak soon Dawn
