I am one of the many people out there who suffers an irrational fear of vomit/vomiting. Its called Emetophobia and it can make being a mummy VERY difficult! Right now, my son is out of sorts, nothing I can put my finger on, but me being me has convinced myself that he will be sick. Emetophobia isnt where you 'just dont like' sick (who LIKES sick?!) its where the very thought of being sick/someone else being sick can send you into a panic attack. I'm interested to see how many other mums suffer this fear, and what they do to overcome it :)

Ooh can I join?

I'm 25 and have been scared of vomiting/seeing other people vomit/catching bugs/anyone seeing me vomit since I was very little.

I remember being sick very young and it freaking me out. I was raised in quite an abusive household where a lot of screaming and violent fights would occur. I would be awoken from 2years old to my mother screaming and hearing police come. So for that I hate night times and sometimes wake up feeling sick and anxious.

This phobia is who I am. It has given me countless panic attacks, stopped me from going university (I have gone since and graduates), stopped me from going to restaurants sometimes and from ever getting drunk.

What's awful is, the panic attacks start when I think I feel nauseous and then as my anxiety increases, so does my nausea so it's a vicious circle :(

I've has CBT and it did help with the panic a bit, I don't freak out so much if i see someone V still don't like it though!

Im 5 weeks pregnant with my first and already experiencing some nausea and it's really making me very anxious. How did you all cope with ms?

HepHep · 24/04/2012 19:18

Welcome, chips :)

I've only had one child, but while pregnant with DS although I had the usual kind of span of MS for about the first 3 months, I never once threw up. I'm sure a lot of that was force of willpower, as there were quite a few times when I felt completely dire, such as while a passenger in the car or overheating when showering and feeling ill then. It just never seemed like an option, iyswim.
One thing that really helped me was these sour boiled sweets made by the same company that makes Preggy Pops lollies, they saved my life. I would take them with me wherever I went and suck one if I felt sick, they made a huge difference. Link here.

Anyway, welcome to the thread, you certainly aren't alone!

Hi folks

Freaking out a bit, DS cut his leg last night and we had to go to germ infested, noro-virus infected A & E.

This morning, claims of feeling sick after breakfast. Sent to school as he didn't look ill, but still feeling panicky this morning.

What are the chances?

Hello everyone, DH working away every week in May, and there is a horrendous sickness bug going around DS1 and DS2's school (I also have DS3) and I am in a state of high alert :( I hate it :(. It's a 24-hour thing but we're talking constant vomiting followed by the other end. Terrified.

submarine · 07/05/2012 17:28

hello

Devil and Becky, hope all is well with you both. I hope your sons avoided any bugs.

Im struggling a bit as theres the odd mention of a vomiting bug when I hear chatter at the school gates. My 3 year old is at nursery at the school and in April I kept her off for three weeks because I was panicking so much about bugs ( I know its really wrong!) and I dont really want to stop her going as she loves it so much. eek what a confession!

Also my 3 year old is goign into hospital in two weeks for some stomach procedures and will be in the gastroenterology ward of a childrens hospital for a week, she has been in before and gosh although my bug phobia is overtaken by the worry of my daughter being unwell, it still pops up, particularly as we will be in an 10 beded room, last time there was a girl there with uncotrollable vomiting ( turns out she was makingherself vomit and has psychological issues but? eeeeeeekkk)

Hi all, Submarine, sorry to read about your 3yr old - must be very stressful. It always makes me feel guilty about having this stupid phobia when I hear of children with real health problems.:(

eeeek to uncontrollable vomiting - my worst nightmare, but at least you know it wasn't contagious

My family have a weird bug, so am on high alert at the moment. DS had tummy ache and 'D' on Sat/Sun. DP had lethargy and tummy pains yesterday. I'm feeling slightly queasy, but hungry - which is a good sign. Think it is some kind of non-vomiting stomach bug (touches every piece of wood in the viscinity!)
