Skipping breakfast?

Hi all, I need to reset my diet but want to do something that doesn’t require a lot of headspace, if that makes sense? I’ve always been slim and fit with a good diet but I’m now disabled, a victim of meno belly and have been taking medication that has resulted in weight gain. I spiralled into a state where I just stopped caring about my looks, health etc but now I realise it’s time to make a change. I’ve done 5:2 before and it worked well but involved a lot of meal planning that I don’t have the headspace for. I eat healthily with minimal UPFs (I just eat too much!) and I was wondering if anyone else has effectively eaten at 6pm, skipped breakfast and eaten lunch at 12 with any success weight loss wise? I’ve got about 2-2.5 stone to lose to get back to where I was a few years ago.

Great idea! I’m hoping to lose another stone and a half and then maintain so on a similar journey at the mo xx

I think it helps to time your fast so that you are fairly active towards the end of it - eg if your fast is due to end at 12noon then try to exercise/be active from 10am. During the first part of your fast you will be using up the energy given by the food you have eaten, during the latter part you will be using energy from stored fat.

I'd never thought of it like this. My normal morning is to go for an approx 4 mile walk from 8am and then have breakfast at 10am after usually not eating after 7pm the previous night. It makes a lot of sense to burn up the energy before refuelling.

I could do with dropping a stone and have tried a few things, but missing breakfast is a revelation!

What tends to happen for me is that I naturally get hungry by about 11am so I have my delayed breakfast at that time, and that eliminates the mid-morning snack that I would have ‘needed’ if I had eaten my breakfast somewhere between 6am and 8am. So I am saving approx 200 calories there.

My standard breakfast is:

10g oats
10g chia seed
5g walnuts
5g dried fruit

All soaked in hot water from the kettle, then 80-100g of natural yoghurt on top. I sometimes use frozen berries instead of the dried fruit, or add in 5g of seeds. Those quantities seem small but they expand massively in the hot water!

Thank you to all, that’s so helpful! I might post on here from time to time with my progress…hope that’s ok? Thank you all for the encouragement and kind words, I appreciate them so much.

How’s it going OP? I started around the same time as you and have lost 4/5lbs already. This time year I’d already lost half a stone doing it in time for summer but couldn’t get in the right frame of mind in time this year. The best thing about it for me is how it helps my sugar addiction. I think it’s filling up on lots protein that does that - I try to include two portions of protien with each meal. Cottage cheese is often a good one to add.
My most breakfasty meal is Greek yogurt, apple, ground flax seed, oats and peanut butter. Very filling!

That’s really good to know and brilliant, well done you! Unfortunately I had to go back on the drug that caused my weight gain but I’m off it again on Monday so I’ll start again then! Onwards and upwards 👍🏻

That’s a pain OP but there are always “bumps in our road” on this journey

now that the crazy heat seems to have subsided (for now at least) I have started back on my afternoon Bovril
One table spoon in a large travel cup (Contigo is my best one) with hot water

that is then my crutch from lunch through to supper - when I don’t fancy tea or coffee the savoury beefy ness just seems to hit the spot

it works when I’m driving around to have it in the travel cup as then it stays hotter for longer but I now also use in the house too or I find I’m microwaving it all the time

edited to add that I sometime have Miso soup - spoonful of miso paste in hot water - which also works for me
