Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

What do you do to maintain weight loss? What are your strategies, and what seems to work for you??

For me these have definitely helped:

  • weighing myself daily, even taking scales on holiday if away for more than 4 days - Great accountability, and when I stop weighing myself it's a sign that I am eating too indulgently
  • having "safe foods" which I can eat lots of on celebratory days like Christmas or holidays - things like olives, radishes, cherry tomatoes, cornichons - and at Christmas, even tangerines and physallis
  • Gin Stephen's motto - Delay Don't Deny - really helps me
  • Shorter eating windows for a few days if the scales go up
  • Posting on here, reading threads, reminding myself I can do it
  • A handful of post-its up on the bathroom mirror, including "I can do hard things"

And of course, they don't always work - my weight has been known to leap up by half a stone in a couple of weeks - but with IF I find it easier to get back to eating well, much faster and more easily

What's helped you?

I always feel quite judged when I say I weigh every day!

if I’m up even the slightest, I go down within next few days.
