How did you decide what your goal weight is???

I'm curious about how you all decide your goal weight ... especially as mine may change.

I'm 5'7.5 and very curvy - think Jessica Rabbit with a bit extra on her hips!

I weighed 9 stone 7 in my teens, and a bit over 10 in my 20s

Since then, I've enjoyed being at 11-11.7, which is a healthy BMI for me and I can wear all my favourite clothes as well as my body feeling good as I walk down the street. I've often been far chubbier - I've lost 4 stone a couple of times, and 2-3 stone far more often. Yup, a real yo-yo dieter.

My current goal weight is 11.2 - but recently I was as low as 10.12 for a bit, which surprised and delighted me. I think that is my new goal weight... there's something deeply satisfying about being in the 10's again. Yup, superficial I know but I'll take that pleasure...

I'm toying with aiming for 10.7, as my cholesterol is a tad high and this may help... but I suspect 10.12 will be much easier to achieve and maintain and I'm happy there. Especially if I manage to get into weights at the gym this summer, and start "reshaping" my body that way....

What about you??

Initially when starting to attempt weight loss I thought I’d be happy to get down to old weight of 10 stone 3.
Once I got there and found the menopause belly was still pretty prominent I adjusted it to 9&1/2 stone.
Meno belly was still jiggling away at that weight.
I then went on to lose a little bit more to get to the lower end of my BMI. Finally got rid of the belly, look fantastic and feel amazing. Wish I’d made an effort to lose weight to get to 9 stone when I was younger -oh the outfits I would have confidentially worn if I had!

I'm 5 foot 7 inches and at my biggest I was 19stone 1 lb

I wanted to get down to 10 stone, I'm now 9 stone 9 lb

And I'm quite happy here, my BMI is healthy 21.3

That's so interesting @TheyreThreeTheyreSixTheyreNineandTen and @Namechangetheyarewatching ...

Both of you lower than you set out to be... and wow it sounds like you look amazing at 9 stone @TheyreThreeTheyreSixTheyreNineandTen ... enjoy wearing new outfits confidently now!

So it doesnt sound as if I'm that unusual ending up lower than initially intended ... I'll see how it goes, especially with the gym work.

I’m 5’5 and 9st2. Heaviest I’ve ever been. I need to get to 8st11 to feel my best.

I am 5ft 5, had been between 10 and 11 stone in my previous “slim” years so when I needed to come down from 14st I believed that would be a sensible goal weight especially as I’ve had six kids. And it would have been…but I finally discovered the joy of daily exercise (yoga) and actually have easily got down to 9st and feel fitter and healthier than I did thirty years ago!

Another 5’7 here. I’m just aiming for the middle of my BMI, however arbitrary that is.

Kellph83 · 01/05/2025 06:34

I’m 5ft and recently lost a lot of weight. Went from 16st 2. My first goal weight was 10st. When I got there I reassessed and am now 8st 9. I’m a size 6/8/10 (hips and a little belly from c section )
i did get down to 8st 4 but my other half and friends said i looked ill, bag of bones and frail lol
that wasn’t the look i was hoping for, so i put on the 5lb.

I ate 800 calories a day, mostly protein and pretty much the same thing everyday.

Then I had the skin removed from my waist, legs and arms.

loveyouradvice · 01/05/2025 12:38

Wow name change - that is SO inspiring. Huge congrats

And well done @Kellph83 on putting on those extra pounds... what a good (and nice!) decision to have to make

Lifting weights changed my idea on this for me.

I'm 5.6 and wanted to be 9st 3 which is what I was in my 20s. I had no muscle mass then!

From working with a personal trainer I found a good weight at around 9st 9/10 - that's inclusive of muscle mass but minus layer of fat.

Body composition matters more than weight IMHO now.
