Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Has 4:3 fallen out of favour?

I’m pushing late 50s and have gained back a large portion of the 10kg I lost about 5 years ago in WW. I’ve tried to go back on WW but can’t shift it. I’m only slightly overweight so have no hope of getting jabs, not that I’m overly keen on getting them in any event (save them for people who really need them).

I tried both 5:2 and 16:8 a few years ago - I’ve been shifting up and down the same 10kg for ages - and think I need something a bit more drastic, especially given my age.

I thought 4:3 might do the trick, as I travel for work a couple of days every week, and on the days I travel I only eat lunch and don’t need to worry about breakfast or dinner. I started it last week and came through the week pretty much ok -I don’t count the calories in my lunch and I have as much coffee with a splash of milk that I want, but otherwise eat nothing.

I haven’t weighed myself yet but I can already see results in my face and feel them in my clothes. I feel like I could keep this going a while - it’s not unbearable, especially as I can eat what I want within reason on the days I’m not fasting. But it’s been hard to find out information about it that isn’t a few years old, and I’m wondering if it’s no longer recommended.

Is anyone doing this, or have a good reason (besides my DH complaining I’m grumpy when I’m hungry) why maybe I should reconsider it?

i’m also looking for more info about 4:3. I have quite a bit of weight to lose. I was doing 5:2 but I actually enjoy the fasting days (think it removes the need to overthink meals). Hoping someone can give some info as I feel seeing the results quicker helps me stay on track.
