Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

@fastingaway I think we were both posting at the same time!

fastingaway · 06/02/2025 13:42

Great minds think alike @Sunflowers84

fastingaway · 06/02/2025 18:27

I'm at the 23 hours cold stage. My hands are like ice. I've been reflecting on the last two fasts and how I've found them harder. Maybe my body is protesting. I have to keep my mind away from thinking about food. Today was tougher as I also made dinner for the family. But determined to get through.

Peae · 06/02/2025 19:00

What have your recent fasts been? Are you doing 36ers for weight loss?

I've just managed just under 24 hrs. Was tough going but I did break the fast with a lovely stir fry full of veggie goodness !

Sunflowers84 · 06/02/2025 20:35

@fastingaway I'm also really cold. I was struggling a bit earlier (at around 20-22 hours), but doing ok now. I've just got to finish my online shopping order (to be delivered tomorrow) and then I'm hoping to get an early night.

Well done @Whyherewego

@fastingaway and @Potterwatch89 How are you both doing? Not sure if anyone else is fasting with us today?

I'm doing ok at the moment, but think I'm going to make a tea with a splash of milk soon. I keep trying to decide whether or not to allow myself a splash of milk. I just had black coffee, water and herbal tea on Monday.

@Sunflowers84 apologies for the slow response! On 24 hours now and feeling decidedly grumpy with the world but really pleased I stuck with it after a testing day. Looking forward to an "up" day tomorrow! Hope you're feeling ok your end 😊

Whyherewego · 07/02/2025 06:09

Hope you both made it to 24 hrs @sunflowers84 and @potterwatch89
I think i didn't eat enough protein when I broke my fast. I woke up in the night hungry!

Protein is the key. I haven't broken my fast yet but will be having some form of eggs when I do!

Sunflowers84 · 07/02/2025 08:14

Well done!

I'm now at 36 hours. As usual, I'm not feeling at all hungry yet, so will keep going for a while.

fastingaway · 07/02/2025 08:21

Well done everybody. I'm at over 36 now too. Night got better once I got warmer. Plan is to keep going for a bit longer. Not hungry but will keep drinking as feeling thirsty.

@Peae not sure if that was for me. But if so mostly 36s but pushing into 40+ last couple of weeks with 1/2 up to 48. Initial goal is weight/fat loss but also the health benefits of fasting.

Well done also! I'm coming up to 36 hours as well but don't feel hungry so going to push on. I'm so glad I stuck with it as the weight has dropped off this week after my initial low point. Finally made it over my nemesis of 11 stone, weighing 10 stone 13 lbs this morning and feel great!

fastingaway · 07/02/2025 09:15

Great update @Potterwatch89 well done on sticking with it and glad that you are seeing some difference on the scales.

Thanks @fastingaway, it's my birthday this weekend and I was determined to get under 11 stone. Just hoping all the cake doesn't undo my hard work 🥳

Yes, it was but I can’t remember why. I think I was wondering if you could do with a week off. Just do 16:8 for a few days.

fastingaway · 07/02/2025 17:37

Thanks @Peae I think I was saying that i found the last 2 fasts harder than the others. I was thinking the same as you and whether I should flex it up and just do 16:8 TRE for a while. I have a few events coming up later this month and in March so will have to change up my plan anyway and may hold off till then.

Saying that though I do think it's mind over matter for me - same with exercise. Once I have set the intention and make a decision to fast to a certain point it's a bit easier. Probably the thing the stretched me was pushing to 48hrs.

However have managed to get to 46 hours today and just broke my fast. Also managed a fasted workout just before. Did my monthly weigh in at workout session and it shows I've lost 2.2kg over the last month with 1.6kg of fat. Not sure how accurate these scales are and it included the festive bloat but will hold onto that.

@Potterwatch89 happy birthday for this weekend - cake and celebrations absolutely to be enjoyed especially when it is your own birthday. 🎂 🎁

@Sunflowers84 how is it going? Hope you have had something delicious for your 'break'fast.

Thanks @fastingaway! I'm giving myself the day off, breakfast with my DS and dinner out with my DH 🥰

Enjoy your birthday @Potterwatch89

Well done @fastingaway
I broke my fast yesterday at just over 41 hours.

I'm planning to fast again from Sunday evening until Tuesday.

Peae · 08/02/2025 09:48

I’m awaiting my flight home ☹️.

Learned so much about how the environment (huge buffets twice a day) impacts my eating. My will power didn’t stand a chance.

I also feel pretty crappy with the food I’ve been eating, although it’s felt great being free from caffeine/Diet Coke. I’ve developed an over-hanging belly.

Think I’ll try a 30-hour fast starting Sunday morning, if I’m ok to join in with the 36-ers.

Do people think I should weigh myself when I get back? Or leave it a week? (I normally weigh every day).

Definitely don't weigh yourself. Remember it's about the long term not any specific day. You know you've had a holiday and you're probsbly not going to be at your best, that's normal. Leave it a week and then go for it

fastingaway · 08/02/2025 12:31

Great to have you back and hope you enjoyed your holiday. Kicking the coke/caffeine thing is a big thing.

On the weighing probably depends on what it will do to your mindset. You will likely be higher as expected after a holiday but it should also come down. I have weighed after holidays just as a baseline so that the next time I weigh I know how much it's gone (hopefully) down but it's so personal. If knowing the increase will demoralise you and you are not bothered with scales and focused more on getting back to healthy routines then I wouldn't weigh.

Peae · 08/02/2025 13:17

I think I’m a “warts and all” kind of a woman. I’ll probably end up weighing myself Monday morning.
