Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

@jollyjoy omad is still a success so don't consider it a fail!

I did push through but oh my word was it it difficult to sleep with my stomach rumbling. So that was really tough. So I won't get 36hrs but at least I've made 34.
Hope you slept better @fastingaway !

Jollyjoy · 23/01/2025 08:30

Yes true thanks @Whyherewego , I was pleased to not eat in the evening after as well despite feeling like it. How great you got to the end! A couple hours off isn't a big deal.

Thanks @fastingaway , hope you enjoy well earned breakfast today, unless you're going longer.

Hope it's a good one today for you @Sunflowers84 and anyone else. I'm away the weekend until tues so think I'll do my next one starting wed eve.

fastingaway · 23/01/2025 12:13

Well done @Whyherewego - pushing through when it's hard is really an achievement.

Thanks @Jollyjoy I'm still fasting and should break shortly although still not hungry. Not even craving a cup of tea which is unusual for me.

I overcame a big mental hurdle today and that was to workout fasting with a PT. It was my own mini experiment and I wasn't sure if I could do it but it was absolutely fine. Amazed at the human body.

Good luck to @Sunflowers84 and others who are fasting today.

Whyherewego · 23/01/2025 12:23

Well done @fastingaway
I've always exercised fasted but recently have started having something to eat before based on the Stacy Sims stuff. But actually I find I can do quite a lot without food !

HelenEilidh · 23/01/2025 16:22

I had intended to do 36 hours Sunday eve through to Tuesday morning, but ended up doing 24 hours as I got hungry and ate a light supper on Monday. Today I thought I'd give it another shot - so started yesterday supper time and aiming to finish tomorrow morning. All going okay so far :-)

Sunflowers84 · 23/01/2025 16:45

Well done to those who fasted yesterday.

I'm coming up to 21 hours. I'm currently struggling with the thought of no dinner. I'm actually not really feeling hungry, but feeling I'd quite like to eat dinner! Not sure if I've explained that very well!

I find these couple of hours the most difficult. Once I make it to around 7pm, it feels easier psychologically to tell myself that dinner time has gone, I just need to make it to bedtime then can eat in the morning (and then I often don't end up feeling hungry until late morning or lunch).

Part of me wants to just give in and eat dinner in an hour, but I also really want to keep going!

@HelenEilidh Well done!

I’m the same. After a hard day at work, I look forward to a nice dinner. I think it’s the ritual of dinner that I’m missing rather than the actual food.

fastingaway · 23/01/2025 18:17

Completely get that @Sunflowers84 . I find the 20-22hr mark the most difficult. It coincides with the evening after a day's work plus physiologically I think that's when I move to fat burning so maybe feels tougher. It still amazes me that despite that by the time morning comes like you I don't feel hungry at all. If you can push through to an early bedtime you'll get all the benefits from a longer fast. Obviously break the fast if you are really struggling or not feeling well.

Sunflowers84 · 23/01/2025 20:15

Thank you @delightfuldaisy19 and @fastingaway It really helped to read your messages. I've made it to 24 hours and hoping to get an early night.

How are you doing @HelenEilidh?

HelenEilidh · 24/01/2025 09:11

I had a large croissant for breakfast and have lost a couple of pounds since starting my fairly erratic, intermittent fasting 😀 Hoping for another half a stone to get back to my normal weight. Now listening to the arrival of Storm Eowyn!

fastingaway · 24/01/2025 17:02

How is everybody doing? Hope you were able to break your fast @Sunflowers84.
@HelenEilidh well done on the fast and the lovely breakfast and loss. Hope you're safe with the storm.

Hi all, apologies for radio silence for a few days, we were away doing childcare for our grandchildren. I hope everyone's ok and that the motivation isn't waning too much.

I'm enjoying a weekend 'off' though plan to start again tonight, going at least until Tuesday morning. I am toying with the idea of going to Tuesday evening (so roughly 48 hours) but what has thrown me is listening to the Zoe podcast interview with Valter Longo where he seems to question any health benefits of longer fasts.

I'm finding this really surprising as, although it's only anecdotal, I feel so much better in myself when I am getting a longer fast under my belt each week. I am losing weight gradually (my phone Face ID needs resetting, clothes are more comfortable) and I have more energy.

As some of us were saying earlier in the thread, opinion seems to be so divided! It is rather confusing.

Peae · 26/01/2025 16:53

Hello All, and well done fasters.

I've been completely wiped out all week with some kind of covid or flu. Been an extremely frustrating week because it put paid to so many plans, including fasting and joining the gym.
Unfortunately, I also fell off the sugar-free wagon this weekend as I tried to re-find my appetite (I can't taste anything). Feel pretty disappointed in myself, so absolutely back on it tomorrow.

Don't be so hard on yourself @Peae , if you are sick then I'm not surprised. Don't worry you've shown yourself that you can so you'll get back there!

Peae · 26/01/2025 17:17

Thank you @Whyherewego , I have felt so good on it, that I'd like to make it a long term thing. I'll go for another few days, but then I'm on holiday from Saturday, so need a plan for the buffet meals...

Edited

Well holidays are exception surely?
Maybe set a few rules? Only 1 treat a day or something?

LittlePearl · 26/01/2025 18:41

It’s pretty much impossible to fast when you’re not well @Peae and maybe not wise either. You’re very close to your GW so not far to go, hope you can put the disappointment behind you and look forward with confidence. I’m sure you will get there!

I’m trying to cultivate a long term view of things that I hope will help me keep going after the sort of blips that historically made me give up. I know it’s not easy but I guess that’s why we’re on this thread, isn’t it? Good luck this week.

Peae · 26/01/2025 18:50

my GW is half a stone at a time.

On holiday I don’t want to deprive myself, but neither do I want to just eat sweet things for the sake of it. I might plan two or three completely sugar-free days.

Is anyone doing a fast today/tomorrow?

Sunflowers84 · 26/01/2025 20:01

@Peae Sorry to hear you're not well.

I'm fasting from this evening until Tuesday morning.

I am just really hoping I've eaten enough today. I know activity trackers can be wildly inaccurate, but my Fitbit is showing my highest ever calorie burn since I started tracking calories in 2020!

Peae · 27/01/2025 07:38

What have you been up to to get such a high burn? Good luck with the fast.

fastingaway · 27/01/2025 08:43

Checking in. Planning on fasting today till tomorrow. I'm also toying with whether I can manage a longer fast tomorrow but will see how I feel through it.

@Peae definitely take the time to get well. The viruses that are going around can really wipe you out. There is no doubt that you can fast once you're better and you can still get back to it and will. Also do enjoy your holiday.

@LittlePearl love that you are having to reset your Face ID - what a great NSV. I wanted to attempt 3 x 36s last week but could only manage OMAD on the last one. Had also been contemplating whether to do 2 48s instead. And whether they may be 'easier'.

blueshoes · 27/01/2025 15:47

Hi all, I am fasting today. At the 17 hour mark.

@Peae hang in there Flowers

Sunflowers84 · 27/01/2025 16:44

@fastingaway @LittlePearl @blueshoes Just checking in with those fasting today. Have I missed anyone? Hope everyone is doing ok.

I'm at around 21 hours. 5pm-7pm is the time that I find the most difficult.

LittlePearl · 27/01/2025 17:22

Thanks @Sunflowers84 , yes I'm approaching 21 hours too. I think in addition to the hunger I miss the evening routine of sharing a meal together. We like our food (part of the problem!) and sitting down together to eat at the end of the day is a little ritual that I really miss on fasting days.

Never mind, I'm really happy to be sticking to a routine again after many months of faffing around and not keeping to anything, and I'm certainly feeling the benefit of the fasts. Onward and upward (or downward, in terms of the scales - I hope).

Hope everyone else is doing ok - not long till bedtime!
