Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

I had a hospital appt this afternoon plus hadn't taken salt today. Had wondered whether fasting was a good idea but the procedure wouldn't interfere with the fasting so have stuck with it. Saw an ad for KFC zinger burger on the way back which I am now craving. Am at 22hrs now so will keep going. @LittlePearl you got this. Nice cup of warm something and early to bed, a nice book/podcast? @Peae great on the inadvertent UPF victory although I do wish you better. How is everybody else doing?

Sunflowers84 · 20/01/2025 19:55

Well done everyone fasting today.

I'm coming up to 24 hours. I'm also feeling cold and hoping to get an early night.

@Peae Sorry to hear you're still not well.

blueshoes · 20/01/2025 20:09

@Peae 16-8 is still great. Hope you get better soon. Work will wait and pounds can be shed later.

@LittlePearl cold and dark. So miserable too.

@fastingaway funny you should mention KFC. I have just eaten the crumbs of crispy bread coating left on ds' plate. That way, it does not count😁

fastingaway · 20/01/2025 20:29

Cold here too - my hands are frozen. @blueshoes 😂 we literally have to take what crumbs we can get. Stay strong everybody - if we are feeling cold that means we are probably burning fat. Anecdotal evidence.

Get in to warm beds fasters! Do you have electric blankets? This is the first winter I’ve had one and it’s been a life changer.

Thanks for the information about feeling cold @fastingaway

I'm at 36 hours, but not sure yet when I'll eat (not hungry at the moment). How's everyone else this morning?

It's so helpful to have this thread. I find it helps to feel like I'm fasting with other people.

fastingaway · 21/01/2025 09:32

Thanks @Sunflowers84 just reached 36 hours too. Had wondered if I push through to 12 and then have lunch. Am at work so only opportunity to eat before the evening. But I am dying for a cup of tea. Will see if I can hold out a little longer

I have a low tech long hot water bottle I use to heat up the bed under the covers in advance. It is bliss.

That is also the figure I am aiming for, haha

blueshoes · 21/01/2025 11:58

Congrats @fastingaway and @Sunflowers84 for making it to 36h and still pushing through. @LittlePearl hope you got through the night.

I broke fast at around 35.5h. Could not resist the salty roasted peas. The body is craving salt.

fastingaway · 21/01/2025 13:55

I've enjoyed my lunch and a cup of tea. Well done everybody

LittlePearl · 21/01/2025 16:21

Thanks @blueshoes , yes I got through the night and then went a bit longer so I’m happy with that. Just enjoyed a couple of boiled eggs with seeded crispbreads and mayo - delicious.

I won’t do another long fast now until next week but am trying to keep to a fairly small eating window, relaxing a bit at the weekend.

Good luck to anyone fasting over the next few days.

fastingaway · 21/01/2025 20:12

It's going to be another late night eating. DD is cooking and I just got back from work. Plan was to fast again tomorrow so I'm going to see how it goes.

Sunflowers84 · 21/01/2025 20:56

Well done, everyone.

I'm planning on fasting again on Thursday (starting from Wed eve until Fri am). The pattern of Mon and Thurs fasting works well for me with work, family, etc.

Jollyjoy · 21/01/2025 21:51

Lovely catching up with all the fasties updates! I agree @Sunflowers84 that the thread is so helpful. Amazing resolve from you following @Peae's example on the sugar. I'm not quite in a place to do none just now but I am really enjoying how the fasts have been motivating me to eat better and less in a gradual way. Like lots of you I hate calorie counting.

@fastingaway I also ate late tonight, had unexpected work and had had a snack at 4 but coming home at 9 I was hungry. Would have left it but planning to fast tomorrow and didn't fancy going into it in a way that would force me beyond 36 when I found the last one hard at the end.

I'm having a bit of an issue with constipation after fasting that knocks into the days after, is that just me? I saw something about a magnesium supplement to help as well as the obvious with hydration and fibre when eating, anyone know much about that?

fastingaway · 21/01/2025 22:25

@Jollyjoy magnesium citrate is the one that can help with constipation. Some people go the other way. Magnesium glycinate is the one recommended for broader fasting purposes because it doesn't cause stomach issues. So for you the citrate would be the good option in the short term.

Jollyjoy · 22/01/2025 09:16

Thanks @fastingaway I'll try that. Have you ended up fasting today? I'm already feeling hungry when I don't usually eat in the morning, sometimes that seems to happen if I eat late. Have had some green tea so hopefully no headaches today, I'll be more on it with the salt. Anyone else doing today?

fastingaway · 22/01/2025 14:07

Fasting so far - about 16 hours in. Had felt guilty yesterday as bread, wine and chocolate did feature with dinner last night. This is what happens when I eat late. But a reset today and didn't feel too bad this morning. fasting anyway as trying to work my way up to 3 overnight fasts a week. Let's see how the rest of the day goes.

fastingaway · 22/01/2025 14:07

How's it going @Jollyjoy ?

Whyherewego · 22/01/2025 18:00

@Peae hope you are better now !
I'm on a 24 hr fast but actually I'm not hungry and wondering whether I can last until bedtime and then go for the magic 30 plus!

Sunflowers84 · 22/01/2025 20:12

@Jollyjoy @fastingaway and @Whyherewego I think it's the 3 of you fasting today? How are you doing?

I've just finished eating and planning on fasting until Friday morning. Is anyone else fasting tomorrow?

Whyherewego · 22/01/2025 21:00

Thanks for the check in @sunflowers84 ! I've managed to stick it out despite having to prepare meal for DS! Which smelled amazing.
At least now it's getting too late to eat so I will last it out now until tomorrow morning. I can't believe it really, I didn't think I'd ever get over 24 hrs ! Whoop whoop
Good luck for your fast and good luck to anyone else tonight!

Jollyjoy · 22/01/2025 21:49

It was a fasting fail for me today! The kids school was shut due to a power cut and so I had to bring them to work for a little while at lunchtime, they behaved so well that I promised them some shopping with Xmas money. After 3hrs of traipsing round the shops, and not having had any salt with all the unexpected palaver going on, I knew I had to eat and we had a lovely Wagamama. So turned into an omad day after something like 19th, feel ok though as what could I do, I think I'd have ended up in my knees!

Congratulations @Whyherewego on breaking that barrier, it really is doable isn't it. Says she who couldn't do it today Smile

fastingaway · 22/01/2025 21:52

Amazing @Whyherewego - well done on going over 24 hours and for staying strong. I'm managing too and will be off to bed soon. Good luck for tomorrow @Sunflowers84 and anybody else fasting.

fastingaway · 22/01/2025 21:53

@Jollyjoy you did really well to last that long under the circumstances. I think I would have caved much earlier. Well done on the OMAD.
