Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

I was hungrier today too @Sunflowers84 but in really good news.... I was 2lbs down after my fast to dinner yesterday. Cannot believe that as I am small so find weight loss difficult.
Let's see if it still done in he morning.

November10000 · 09/01/2025 08:29

It is still gone this morning. 2lbs is a great result for me so will see how I am doing today and maybe do another 24 hour one.

LittlePearl · 09/01/2025 09:51

Sunflowers84 · 08/01/2025 18:58

Is anyone still fasting tomorrow? I think I'm going to do from dinner today until dinner tomorrow. (I'm guessing it will end up being around 22 hours, but not sure yet.)

Yes, I am @Sunflowers84 I was late home yesterday and didn’t eat my evening meal until 8ish, meaning that I won’t get a full 24 hours in without pushing tonight’s dinner even later (I’m trying not to eat too late these days, it used to be a habit of mine that I have largely broken now).

I’ll join you in doing 22 hours or so - good luck 🙂

LittlePearl · 09/01/2025 09:56

fastingaway · 08/01/2025 19:26

Well done on all the fasts today everybody. I am planning on doing some kind of fasting tomorrow but will see how it goes - minimum 20 hours but may go longer depending on how I feel. Still have to eat dinner today so won't really start fasting till after 8:30pm today

Yes, same here @fastingaway

I have a tendency to slide towards setting unobtainable goals early on when I am filled with enthusiasm, then falling off the wagon when I can’t reach them, so a flexible approach with good principles and some necessary wriggle room is probably better for me.

I’m aiming not to eat until my evening meal tonight so like you, a good 20 hours and probably more.

Sunflowers84 · 09/01/2025 12:55

Wow - that's brilliant @November10000 I'm also small, so weight loss is also very slow for me. It's one of the reasons I'm trying this, as months of eating quite low calories every day has not resulted in any weight loss.

Sunflowers84 · 09/01/2025 12:58

@LittlePearl and @fastingaway (& anyone else? Sorry if I've missed anyone.) How are you doing? I also didn't start until around 8.30pm last night. I prefer to eat earlier, but timings didn't work very well yesterday.

fastingaway · 09/01/2025 13:47

I'm nearing 18 hours @Sunflowers84. Helpfully busy work has kept me distracted. I've had a lot of sparkling water but only just had the salt. Hope you are doing ok too.

@@LittlePearl agree about slow and steady. It's better to build the fasting muscle initially.

@November10000 sounds like some great results on the scales. I'm fluctuating a bit but still trending downwards.

LittlePearl · 09/01/2025 15:28

OH is on kitchen duties tonight so I’ve asked him if we can eat at about 6pm, by which time I’ll be at just under 22 hours - I’m happy with that.

Well done @November10000 ! My fasting goals are as much about health as weight loss these days (obviously there’s an overlap) but any shift downwards on the scales is encouraging. I’m down a couple of pounds too.

Sunflowers84 · 09/01/2025 18:35

Well done @fastingaway and @LittlePearl

I'm trying to decide what to do. I thought I was going to eat dinner around about now, but plans have changed, so I could keep fasting until tomorrow. I'm feeling ok and think I could quite easily keep going, but after fasting at the beginning of the week I'm also aware that I want to make sure I get enough nutrients over the week.

fastingaway · 09/01/2025 18:54

I'm at 22.5 hours and will keep going till 24. Reviewing every 2 hrs. @Sunflowers84 if you decide to do the overnight could you plan 3 nutritious meals for tomorrow. Obviously see what you feel comfortable with.

Rest of the family is having pizza tonight so a real test here.

Peae · 09/01/2025 20:02

Good luck to those fasting. I'm having a couple of days at 18:6 due to feeling a bit poorly. (I think that it's due to the stress I've been under health-wise and at work. Nothing bad, all pretty good really, but a bit too much). Thinking about maybe starting a 30-hour fast on Saturday. Day 9 and still sugar-free!

Whyherewego · 09/01/2025 20:16

Well.done on being sugar free still @Peae
I've been doing some further research and I think on balance I need to eat more protein and i can do that and fast as much as I have been. So am going to go for a longer fast once a week to line up with my rest day from exercise. So planning on a 30 hour next Weds

Jollyjoy · 09/01/2025 20:23

Well done all. Sorry you're not feeling great @Peae, well done doing any fasting in that case! @fastingaway that definitely sounds challenging with the pizza so well done. Well done to everyone else too.

I listened to that podcast mentioned upthread about making beginner mistakes and I'm probably doing lots of them as I randomly decided earlier on today to do a longer fast since I felt really good with the 24 hrs a few days ago. I'm now at about 25hrs and really hungry but think I can manage to survive another hour or so on roibos tea and go to bed. DDs bday tomorrow so plenty of eating will be had over the weekend. I liked the prompt in the podcast to plan how to break the fast so I have a nice granola bowl type thing planned for the morning.

Jollyjoy · 09/01/2025 20:25

Ps can some one point me to the advice about salt? I took a few flakes with water here and there throughout the day but not sure if that's right.

fastingaway · 09/01/2025 20:52

@Jollyjoy see this guide

www.thefastingmethod.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/Fasting-and-Electrolytes.pdf?

Best is to take a pinch of salt (sea salt or pink Himalayan salt) every 2-3 hrs from the beginning of your fast. Helps with not getting headaches, feeling lightheaded or nauseous.

Peae · 09/01/2025 21:24

Sorry you're not feeling great , well done doing any fasting in that case!

Thank you, but I actually feel better fasting, weirdly. I did decide to have a longer eating window today, just in case it was fasting-related though. It wasn't, but what harm does a long TMAD make in the scheme of things if you're under the weather?

OP posts:
fastingaway · 09/01/2025 21:32

Well done on the no sugar for 9 days @Peae - that's quite impressive. Makes complete sense to comfort and nourish yourself during a stressful time. Hope things improve from here.

How are you doing @Sunflowers84?

I'm at over 25hours now so going to bed. But currently contemplating if I can have a slice of pizza to break my fast in the morning. Grin

Sunflowers84 · 10/01/2025 07:14

Well done on the no sugar @Peae Hope you feel better soon.

I didn't eat dinner last night and I'm now nearly at 35 hours. I'm not too sure what time I'll break my fast. (I'm used to not eating breakfast.)

How are you doing @fastingaway and @Jollyjoy

@LittlePearl How many hours did you do? Did you enjoy dinner?

Was anyone else fasting yesterday? Anyone fasting today?

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 10/01/2025 08:36

Hope you feel better soon @Peae .

I’m enjoying the OMAD, last nights dinner was halloumi burgers, salad and sweet potato fries. I’m thinking Thai green curry tonight.

Jollyjoy · 10/01/2025 08:51

I'm just eating breakfast @Sunflowers84! Was 37hrs in the end with opening DD bday gifts etc. I don't normally eat breakfast at this time either but have a busy day so want a bit of fuel now. How long do you plan to go on?

I'll do another 36 on Mon or Tue next week I think.

Jollyjoy · 10/01/2025 09:32

Also thank you @fastingaway for that guide, I'll take a look.

LittlePearl · 10/01/2025 10:15

Morning all.

I managed 22hours yesterday @Sunflowers84 Dinner was lovely, we got new recipe books for Christmas (two from The Roasting Tin collection) and there are some fantastic meal ideas in them. Yesterday was All in one Dahl, topped with toasted cashews and pomegranate seeds - lush.

Well done everyone who went past 24 hours, you must be feeling really happy with what you’ve achieved this week. I think you’ve earned your pizza breakfast @fastingaway

Hope you’re feeling better today @Peae

I plan to fast for 20 hours today but relax over the weekend. I’ll be starting my next 36 hour fast on Sunday evening.

fastingaway · 10/01/2025 10:44

Well done on the fasts yesterday everybody. The meals are all sounding particularly delicious.

I woke up not hungry at all. But drinking plenty of water. Busy with work this morning so planning on breaking fast at 12 or 1pm. I'll be out after that and won't have time to eat till the evening. Normal 16/8 eating days this weekend.

Really proud that for the first time I have managed 2 all day fasts. Never thought this would be possible - so in uncharted territory for me and will monitor what this does for my weight and health. Feeling less puffy already this morning and scales down. A lot of people swear by measuring your body as sometimes shape can change even if scales don't. Going to think about doing this over the weekend but only measure once every couple of weeks at most.

fastingaway · 10/01/2025 10:50

Happy Birthday to your DD @Jollyjoy 🎂

fastingaway · 10/01/2025 13:32

Fast broken at just under 41 hours with a brunch of eggs, spinach garlic mushrooms, avocado and sourdough toast. Followed by a small slice of pizza. Tea never tasted better.
