Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

Well done, everyone. I'm currently at just over 38 hours and trying to decide whether to eat something soon or just wait for lunch?

What's everyone eating as their first meal?

I had an apple and a piece of cheddar, I'm just waiting for some oat loaf to defrost and then I'll have that with a bit of honey and a cup of tea.

My plan is to do this again next week, so start Sunday night and finish on Tuesday morning, if anyone wants to join me?

Jollyjoy · 07/01/2025 13:29

How amazing so many of you achieving this and credit to @Peae for getting us all together and inspired. I've just enjoyed my lunch after my 24hr one, I'm definitely up for doing a 36hr next week. Someone said a couple a week is recommended, is that right?

fastingaway · 07/01/2025 13:36

Great going @Sunflowers84

fastingaway · 07/01/2025 13:39

I'm thinking I might try a 24 or 36hr this Thursday. To me there's not much difference in difficulty between a 24 and 36 as getting to the 24hr bit is the hardest for me. But otherwise definitely up for on Monday @LittlePearl

LittlePearl · 07/01/2025 13:44

Yes, I think I will do 24 hours this Thursday too @fastingaway

I could probably do with doing another 36 hours to be honest, I've got weight I'd like to lose. But I think I might work towards doing that next month, I feel as though it's been quite a big step to commit to once a week after many months of not going above 20 -24 hours.

Really happy to have got back to it, and it's great having this thread for a bit of accountability / support. Thanks again @Peae !

fastingaway · 07/01/2025 13:50

It's a great achievement @LittlePearl.
I've never done more than one 36 a week so seems sensible to cement this habit before moving any further.

Have enjoyed some mushrooms and eggs on sourdough and a cup of tea. I'm too scared to work out fasted as yet - maybe one for the future.

Just wanted to say how impressed I am with you all and your fasting endeavours.

I lost 3 stone back in 2019 after being overweight for most of my adult life.
It's been fantastic and pretty easy to maintain with just one 36 hour fast each week instead of the usual two.

I took me a long time to find my way to lose weight and I hope for you that it works as well!

I don't own scales at home and only weigh myself once a month, but the weight loss for me was pretty steady at around 3lbs a month. I knew I was going to be in it for the long haul and was happy with that.

Good luck all ☺️

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 07/01/2025 15:04

I broke my fast with scrambled eggs this morning which was yummy.

fastingaway · 07/01/2025 15:41

@CranberryJanuary thank you so much for sharing your experience. It's really inspiring and I am feeling motivated. It's a milestone birthday and I am keen to gain full control of my health and weight this year. I've gradually built up to this stage after many years of fasting in shorter windows.

Peae · 07/01/2025 18:42

Hi Everyone, I've really enjoyed catching up with the thread today - the advice, the inspiration and the successes! I find myself nodding along. Well done everyone!

It's been a pretty long and gruelling day here, but after lots of scans and needles and all sorts, it's been a pretty positive day. I was tempted to celebrate and comfort with sweet treats, but stuck to a sausage roll. I feel like I've been given a bit of a reprieve and when it comes to chronic diseases and cancer and the like, I really do think that sugar makes a big difference.

I'm just aiming for a 20hour TRE tomorrow and then I'm out with DP to celebrate our anniversary, so it'll be a long eating window for me.

Well done @Peae for resisting the sugar and enjoy your day out !

Sunflowers84 · 07/01/2025 19:29

Hope you're doing ok @Peae after all the procedures. Hope you can look after yourself this eve and well done for resisting sugar.

I'm not too sure about my next fasting day, but will aim to join with some of you on either Thursday or next Monday (or maybe both). I just need to finalise a few logistics to work out if I can make Thursday work.

November10000 · 07/01/2025 20:56

Just about to have some food. 28 hours was the best I could manage.

fastingaway · 07/01/2025 21:17

Well done @November10000 and @Peae I'm glad it's been a positive day in the end and that you held out on the sugar. Nodding along too about the cancer and sugar. I have lost 2 close family members to cancer in recent years so the health benefits of fasting are another reason to keep going with this.

I hope you have a good anniversary tomorrow.

Well done @November10000 , 28 hours is great.

Enjoy your anniversary meal out @Peae and congratulations.

Sunflowers84 · 08/01/2025 09:33

Good morning all.

I listened to this podcast episode last night
podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-fasting-method-podcast/id1593883196?i=1000683006382

I think @Peae recommended this website and podcast originally.

Tip number 6 - 'joining a supportive community' made me think of all of you. I'm sure the people in the podcast would prefer us to pay to join them but I think we've managed to create our own community (for free!) here!

Peae · 08/01/2025 12:41

Hey everyone, managed 20 hours fasting here today.

I completely agree about finding a supportive community. The trick is not to inadvertently exclude anyone, or for anyone to feel excluded. I’m not always great with the posts that name check everyone, but I think they’re helpful.

Day 8 of no sugar and concerted good effort with the eating. Think I’m 5lb down on the bloat and over consumption of December. Very surprised and happy with that!

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 08/01/2025 13:38

@Peae wow! Well done! The scale isn’t moving for me yet!

Peae · 08/01/2025 13:49

When are you measuring from @Fabulouslyunfabulous ? I’m taking it from my highest measurement over Christmas. This pretty much gets me back on track pre Christmas.

lechatnoir · 08/01/2025 14:37

Well done everyone and thanks so much @Peae for starting this thread. I've rediscovered my 16:8 groove so whilst I'm happy I managed a 24 hour fast (which I definitely needed as I didn't even feel that hungry I'd eaten so much prior!) I probably won't be attempting a 36 hour fast anytime soon but really appreciate the support from everyone.

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 08/01/2025 14:43

I’m also doing from my highest over Christmas.

Sunflowers84 · 08/01/2025 15:01

@Peae That's amazing - well done!

@lechatnoir Great that you've found your 16:8 groove!

I'm feeling really hungry today. So strange. I went for 41 hours without food and felt fine right up until yesterday lunch. But feeling hungry today. I had lunch around 1:00. I'm going to really try to not have a snack and not eat until dinner!

Sunflowers84 · 08/01/2025 18:58

Is anyone still fasting tomorrow? I think I'm going to do from dinner today until dinner tomorrow. (I'm guessing it will end up being around 22 hours, but not sure yet.)

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 08/01/2025 19:07

I’m thinking that I’m going to do OMAD and then 36 hour fasts Sunday evenings to Tuesday mornings which will fit well with my gym classes (Tuesday and Thursdays classes are quite intense and I will need fuel).

The scale is going the wrong way and I feel like a potato.

fastingaway · 08/01/2025 19:26

Well done on all the fasts today everybody. I am planning on doing some kind of fasting tomorrow but will see how it goes - minimum 20 hours but may go longer depending on how I feel. Still have to eat dinner today so won't really start fasting till after 8:30pm today
