My first 18 hour fast.

I am struggling.

The thought of my breakfast of sourdough, avacado, egg, salmon and cress is keeping me going.

On MJ 2.5mg second week. Have 8 stone to lose. I wanted to also implement fasting strategies to help me maintain any weightloss for life. Completed x 3 16 hour fasts this week. First time I have done an 18 hour one!

I have lost 3kg in a week while fasting and on 2.5mg MJ.

It is tough still.

Tea with no milk helps.

Any words of wisdom from fasting enthusiasts?

Does 18 hour fasting get easier?

Disclaimer I am off work and all my kids are at Uni so I have no other responsibilities apart from fasting😂.

Aren't you on it long term? If so no need to starve yourself. Otherwise for Christmas you will have to ask Santa for a wig when your bloody hair falls out 😂

FuckThePoPo · 13/11/2024 08:22

Oh hang on do you mean like dinner at 6 then lunch the next day at 12? That doesn't sound so bad then and you might manage to keep a few wisps!

why do you want to do that on mj though? Isn't it working great for you? Good luck and if it helps miso easy from itsu is excellent it's barely any calories and is hot, warming and full of umami goodness 😊

GrimDamnFanjo · 13/11/2024 08:24

Why are you fasting to this extent? Why not try intermittent fasting instead?

18hourfast · 13/11/2024 08:25

I started fasting at 1530 yesterday so can eat at 0930 today.

This week is extreme because I have a target to hit on Monday which I need to do if I want to keep the WLS pathway open to me.

MJ yes it maybe for life but I have read fasting has many benefits for apple shaped insulin resistant individuals like myself😂

I thought this was the fasting thread with advocates of fasting didn’t expect ridicule and scorn!

@FuckThePoPo thanks for the miso recommendations unfortunately I have hashimotos so I avoid soy products.

@18hourfast well done on your fast - did you make it to 18 hours. My tip is a mug of slightly cooked boiled water with a grain of pink salt or sea salt under my tongue! The other thing is gradually increasing fasts. I have just joined a very welcoming group on this board, I will try to tag you.

Setyoufree · 13/11/2024 18:48

Well done! Black coffee helps to suppress appetite in my experience, and also building up to the 18 hours.

Be careful to not eat everything in sight when you are in your eating window, it's easy to be so ravenous you go crazy and undo all the benefits

Silly question but why do you have to have lost a particular amount by a particular date? It seems weird to me.

Glad you're managing it this week. I struggle with fasting more than 16 hours tbh. Often I stop at 15 hours - dinner by 18:30, breakfast a 9:30. The only way I can manage 17 hours is if I push through to 10:30 for breakfast and have dinner by 17:30, but that's pretty hard with work and quite antisocial for eating with others.
