18:6 - Healthy weight by Christmas 2024

Amazonmulu · 08/09/2024 13:58

Over the summer I read Gin Stephen's Fast Feast Repeat book and started fasting 18:6 6 days ago.

I've not been very hungry apart from at the weekend. It's for sure lifted my mood and I just feel better.

Does anyone want to join me on an Autumn Fast in time for Christmas?

I should add I'm in perimenopause.

Stats so far.

Monday 14st 7lb
Today 14st 2.4lb
Goal by Xmas 13st (a loss of approx 1lb/week).

If I can achieve that I will be OVER THE MOON.

I'll join you..
Start weight 13 stone 5lbs
Goal weight 12 stone for Christmas
End goal for summer 2025 is 10 stone.

I'll check in every Monday with my fingers crossed progress results.

Hi @NoGwenItsABoxingDayTrifle

Sounds like you have same amours to lose as I do, and over similar time frames.

We can do it 💪🏻

Are you doing 18:6?

I haven't really looked into fasting, when I've lost weight before I did 1200 calories a day so maybe I'll do that again or a mixture of the two.

I'm on a couple of September threads, but there are a lot of people calorie-counting, so I'd be very happy to join a fasting-focused thread. I weigh-in on Mondays, but am probably about 13st 5lb. Would love to be below 13st by my holiday on 6 October and 12st 7lb by Christmas.

Currently trying to move from OMAD to 36:3MAD having read Megan Ramos' Intermittent Fasting for Women.

What's 36:3MAD?

Welcome aboard btw! I'm trying to weigh in every day but I'm not sure if that's a mistake or not.

I’ll join - started last Tuesday at 12 stone 4lb, today am 11 stone 11. I am doing fast 800 tho so the drop off is quick at the beginning, aiming for 1-2 lb a week with a goal of 10.7 stone.

Peae · 09/09/2024 20:35

I think it’s hotly debated, possibly leaning towards more people advocating less frequent weighing. Maybe even once a month. (I am bad at following this advice 😬).

36/ADF means two or three times a week I fast for 36 hours or a bit over. Means I end up doing ADF or Alternative Day Fasting.
Eg I didnt eat yesterday, I finished a 40-hr fast this morning. I ate a couple of meals today and will next eat on Wednesday. Hope that’s made sense.

Btw I weighed myself this morning and I was under 13st 3lb, so have lost more than expected.

Ah ok! That makes sense.

I'm going to see how I do in the next 21 days and if maybe use some extended fasts to jump start things.

Hi - I'd like to join you here. A bit of accountability will hopefully keep me on the straight and narrow.
I lost 3 stone with IF after reading Delay don't Deny. It came off easily in less than 6 months and I kept it off for a few years. Then work stress ramped up, I developed carpal tunnel so found myself living in pain daily, and perimenopause decided that was the perfect time to make her presence known. I find myself a stone and a half heavier now.
Since then I've been so confused - I think I've read too much on the subject. Should be concentrating on protein? Should I eat before I lift weights? So much info out there and I'm getting overloaded. Also annoyed that despite eating very well, lots of beans and veg, little processed crap and having started weights that my shape has changed very little.
Anyway - I know that a 5-6 hour window worked for me, I'm much better at managing my stress now and I've decided (literally last night) to clear the noise from all the varying sources and get back to shorter windows and good nutrition.

You could try the 28 Day Fast Start by the same author as a refresh and reset?

gretathegremlin · 22/09/2024 21:32

Late to the party, but I'm in.

There's not a chance in hell of me getting to a healthy weight by Christmas, but I can aim for fat loss and by association lowering of my glucose levels (type 2 diabetic) as everything has gone to crap over the past few months.

I'm reading this in the bath, so I'll post my starting stats either when I've surfaced or in the morning.

I don’t tend to set much store by the number on the scales, but I have seen great results both in clothes size and blood glucose in the past doing a combo of 18:6 and watching my carb consumption (not keto, I don’t think I’d have the stamina).

mimiasovitch · 22/09/2024 21:40

I've actually ordered it already!
I did an 18-6 for my first day back at it. The last hour before I broke my fast was tough, but I managed, and I ate to satisfaction two very healthy meals during my window. I was going to finish off with some berries and yogurt but the dog was being a dick and wouldn't walk with my husband alone so I had to go out with them. I didn't want to extend the eating window so ended up closing early.

mimiasovitch · 25/09/2024 10:31

Start of day 4 today. I know Gin doesn't recommend weighing in the first 28 days, but I am as I know from past history I need to treat it as a piece of information rather than something that I'm scared of, and getting on the scale daily helps take away the fear. 2lb down already, though probably as last week I was drinking cocktails daily in glorious Sicily, and this is just getting rid of any alco-weight.
I feel very positive, and am enjoying planning and cooking window worthy meals.

Peae · 25/09/2024 11:58

Great start! I enjoy planning the meals too.

Does that mean 18 hour fast and a six hour eating window?

Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues · 25/09/2024 12:26

Can I join please?

I am a healthy weight but heavier than I want to be (and very short) and I have a holiday coming up in the next couple of weeks so I’m going to do a few 36 hour fasts. I usually do OMAD so hopefully not a huge jump to 36 hour.
I started my fast at 8 last night. Plan is to eat again from 8am tomorrow and then fast again from 8pm to until 8am on Saturday (depending on how I find this first one!).

I will likely go back to OMAD as it suits me and my lifestyle.

That sounds impressive! I've still not been able to work up to that!

Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues · 25/09/2024 13:35

@Amazonmulu I might not be able to either! 😂 I’m thinking it can’t be that much harder than OMAD as I will be in bed for most of the last part. Maybe I’m kidding myself but I’ve read some really good stuff and thought it’s worth a try before my holiday!

I’ve got the gym and a walk planned post work and then won’t exercise until I’ve eaten tomorrow. I purposely started after an intense workout so today’s will be more chilled.

mimiasovitch · 25/09/2024 16:36

@Namebechanged , yes, 18 hours fasted and 6 for eating. I know from before I work best with at most 6 eating hours, 5 being better, but I'm being kind to myself as I restart.

mimiasovitch · 25/09/2024 16:38

@Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues I previously did a few 36 hour plus fasts and they really did spur things along, though I'm not sure I'd ever manage several full fasts a week like the ADF protocol suggests. Never say never though.

Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues · 25/09/2024 19:28

@mimiasovitch that’s good to know! Any tips? I’m not feeling awful although now is when I usually have my meal so I’m guessing now’s the time that I might start struggling!
I definitely don’t want to overdo it though either so not sure how many to do.

mimiasovitch · 25/09/2024 19:40

@Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues it's been a few years since I last did one, but from what I recall you need to be well fed before you start the fast, keep yourself occupied during, and reopen afterwards with good meal. I probably mainlined black coffee and sparkling water. I do remember it got a bit addictive - like, I've done 36 hours can I get to 38, then 40, but I'm not sure that's particularly healthy.

Putonyourredshoesanddancetheblues · 25/09/2024 20:10

Thank you @mimiasovitch , I did have a big meal last night and have lived on black coffee, herbal tea and water today.
I’m hoping that as this is short term that 1 it will jolt my body into loosing that final bit, 2 I won’t get addicted, 3 I don’t get hangry! 😂
