Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Opinions on this method welcome, am I messing up fasting?

So I’ve put on close to a stone out of nowhere, well obviously not nowhere but just letting my good habits slip.

I did a version on 5:2 and then took weekends off but now I’m 45, I think my weekends are just too feast focused.

so I’ve kickstarted my weigh loss this time by doing 2 extended fasts per week and have lost around 3lbs in 2 weeks. Not super impressive but I’m aiming for 9 stone, so harder to lose that last bit (5 foot 7 for context)

The fasts last for 38 hours and I’ll break the fat with a bowl of fruit and homemade granola.

Now my only issue is that on the fast days I can’t seem to get through without 2 semi skimmed homemade lattes (yes I know that’s technically not full fast). So is this sabotaging my endeavours? I drink water and have tea also.

The other 3 days I’ll do 5:2 and have the weekends off with just a little more care than before.

cranking up the resistance on my bike and cross trainer as well as walking my dog 30 minutes per day.

opinions please as I really want to nail this and get on top of my weight for a healthier future!

🙏🏼

If you read Gin Stevens she would definitely say the lattes are a problem. I don’t do extended fasts but aim for 14 to 16 hours EXCEPT for a large coffee with oat milk in the morning. I did try just having it black for a bit in the interests of purity but it didn’t work for me and I was much more hungry and it just didn’t feel sustainable. Whereas the white coffee is a long-standing habit which means I don’t feel hungry. I think it’s up to you really but Gin Steven’s motto is ‘tweak it until it’s easy’ and I think that makes a lot of a sense

Yep, purists such as Gin Stevens will say that’s sabotaging your efforts.

I believe it breaks your fast, so you won’t be getting the non-weightloss benefits of fasting. But if your goal is weightloss and you’re losing weight, are you ok with that?
