Help....just not working

I have been doing IF - 16:8 for about three years now. And in that time, nothing has changed. I stopped weighing my self for a year as it was too depressing to see nothing shift. Just did it again and found I am heavier than before by a couple of KG. I really do restrict my food and have cut out most alcohol, most sugar. I don't eat processed food. Largely veggie. I don't overeat in eating window. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have my fasting window from 8/9 at night till 1 or 2 day. I would have thought that would be in itself inducing a calorie loss. I am nearly 60. Does anyone have any advice?

I've said before on here, 16:8 is my natural eating window and the only way I lose weight is to count calories.

You must be eating enough to meet your daily calorie needs within that eating window, in fact slightly more. It only creates a calorie deficit if you genuinely eat 1/3 fewer calories in your 8 hour window than you would otherwise. As breakfast is usually the lightest meal of the day it's easy to make up a few 100 calories with a snack and you're in exactly the same place you were.

I wonder if moving your fasting window might be helpful. Still eating up to 9pm might be too late in the day for you.

Just measured my waist. 36inches. That's high risk. I feel so miserable. Hard to changing eating window because of family and my work hours. Is there ever a case that one could be eating too little. I doubt it. Will review my portion sizes.

@felissamy Have you had your thyroid checked? We're nearly the same age, and I've been on levothyroxine for quite a while now.

I found I just wasn't losing any weight at all, despite exercising daily and watching what I ate. There were quite a few other symptoms too, little things that all added up and, when I was finally diagnosed and on meds, it all made sense. Worth getting it checked, if you haven't already.

If you feel like it is not working maybe try incorporating daily low intensity workouts to burn extra calories.

felissamy · 09/02/2024 18:40

Thanks for that, will check thyroid and also look into low intensity workouts. I reckon I could move more!

Eating too little to lose weight is a myth I'm afraid. Have you tried tracking your calories?

tizalinatuna · 11/02/2024 10:08

Just linked MFP to my Garmin. Am going to track calories, because I think my Garmin is telling me I burn around 1600 a day and so I probably need to be aware of how much I eat. I kind of assumed I'd be burning more. Shall give this a go for a couple of weeks. Plus a bit more conscious movement.
