Fasting / 5:2 diet

Weight not budging

I've been doing Fast 800 since 8th January with an eating window of 9-5, so 16 hour fast.

Typical day:
Breakfast: Greek yoghurt, chia seeds, berries and cherries (150 cals)
Lunch: Fast 800 shake (200 cals)
Dinner: stir fried veg with prawns or chicken OR home made veg soup with prawns OR chicken with broccoli and cauliflower (300 cals)
Snack: one square 90% choc (50 cals)
Drinks: tea with unsweetened soy milk (100 cals).

I weigh everything so pretty sure calories are right

Exercise: 30 minutes walk a day, 2x resistance training per week 30 mins, some yoga and pilates at home

In the first 3 weeks I lost 8lbs. Then I had my birthday so had some drinks and came off plan for 2 days (ate around 1000 calories, drank around 1000 calories) then went back on Fast 800 on January 28. Been doing it religiously since then and am actually 1lb heavier than I was on January 26. So in 9 days of 800 calories and TRE I've put on a lb. Any advice??

I'm checking my macros and above 60g protein a day and below 50g sugar

For health reasons I can't do any high intensity exercise but I could maybe make my walks a bit longer

I’ve never done fast 800 so take this with a pinch of salt but generally when I have had a small plateau in the past, I up my calories for two days (still eating the same healthy things) then go back down. That usually restarts the loss.

Thanks MCOut I'll consider that.

Just to add for anyone else who comes along I have 40lbs to lose so not a small amount - would have thought it would be coming off quickly this early on 😭

Hey Afrikat!

This is just personal experience but I did the fast 800 for a month and lost 1kg... very disappointing and found it so hard. I wondered if I was in starvation mode or something, I think it's a bit extreme. Try IF, it's been a lot better for me :)

Have you checked the batteries in your scales?

Thank you. Love the username! Bat boys 4eva 🤣 Is IF the same as time restricted eating? If not what IF regime did you follow?

No! Worth a shot though 🤷‍♂️

haha omg YES Batboys = Life! I've done 16:8 and it's worked well. Just starting back up again to shed some pounds as feeling a bit big. I just hate the obsessive calculating of calories and protein etc I feel like 16:8 allows a certain amount of 'freedom' despite time restriction...

Stick with it. I've been doing Fast 800 since 2nd January (so 5 weeks) and have lost 22lbs so far. I'm not doing any exercise (other than walking the dog) and from what I've read exercise isn't particularly good for weight loss, but does improve overall health. I did the BSD (pre-cursor to the Fast 800) back in 2016 and lost about 50lbs over a long period. Although it can be tough when you feel like the weight isn't coming off as fast as you'd like, try to think of it as changing the way you eat, rather than just a diet. Also, have you tried measuring your waist as often you'll see results in centimetres lost not just on the scales.

Thanks. I am doing 16:8 as well as the 800 cals, will stick with it a bit longer and look to change it up if I'm still not losing

Wow 22lbs is amazing! I've just weighed and I've lost 2lb since Monday so hopefully heading in the right direction, I'll stick with it

From what I can work out you’ve lost 9llbs in 5 weeks. I actually think that is pretty good with a two day lapse. I personally would find 800calories too restrictive but if it works for you keep going.

Thanks. I actually find 800 really easy after day 3 and I'm not struggling at all with this way of eating so I'll just keep at it

I've been doing this since 8th Jan and lost 12 lbs. I have about 2.5 stone to lose. My partner is a week behind and has lost a stone but he has about 6/7stone to lose. We are ususally around 850 calories a day but will go up to 1000. Like you I came off the wagon for a pub lunch and it didnt seem to affect. Ive found keeping an eye on the protein levels as well as calories is very important for both of us, particularly me as the veggie. It keeps us feeling fuller for longer. I find the scales dont move for days and then all of a sudden I am down again, so trying to not weigh too often. But we are both fitting into old clothes already. So dont be despondent. Planning/prepping and cooking seems to be my new full time job for now though :)

That's a great loss we'll done!

You're right about not weighing too often I think I'll just do twice a week from now on. Weighed this morning and another 2lb down so 4lb since Monday, looks like it's finally shifting again. Down an inch on waist too

Just to update - I've continued 800 (so just over 8 weeks now) other than 4 days over half term. I'm now down 20lbs so all going in right direction!

For me it helps to plan my meals, eat within a window that suits you (I do 9-5), make sure you're getting enough protein and be consistent. The first few days are really tough but after that I find it feels quite easy. Good luck!

Another update from me. I finished 12 weeks of Fast 800 and lost 24lbs. Happy with this but seems to be less than others lose with this WOE. Might be because I came off a couple of times.
I've now been on 5:2 for 2 weeks and lost another 2lbs so 26lbs down in total. A bunch more to go but over half way there!
