Who wants to start intermittent fasting?

I'm no expert but I have been doing Intermittent Fasting (IF) since September and I've lost 9kg/ a stone.

I eat breakfast at 7:30, lunch and the tea at 4. So my eating window is finished by 4:30pm. So it's a 9 hour eating window and 15 hours of fasting.

I haven't read any books about it but I do listen to podcasts about it.

I don't know anyone in real life who does IF so thought there would be a community here.

I also had a tough weekend. It was a weekend away with so much rich food. I’m fasting until dinner tonight now, and I haven’t felt hungry once today!

HairScratcher · 04/03/2024 13:41

I had a mixed week (4 jam doughnuts for dinner one night…) but back on track

today I’ve done meals for lunches/dinner for the week
bean/lentil/quinoa salads
a crustless quiche
some chia puddings
banana oat cookies

NatureGlimmers · 10/03/2024 12:18

I put on 0.4kg/0.9lb this week. But I tend to have one week a month where I gain, and the rest I generally lose so hopefully this is my one week for March! I noticed some signs of my metabolism slowing down/my body not being happy with the fasting this week, which were that I kept feeling really cold and my circulation was bad, and I was getting shaky quite regularly. I re-read some chapters of Fast Feast Repeat as I remembered Gin mentioning this and did a couple of days of longer eating windows which seemed to help the symptoms so I will go back to 19:5 from today and see how I feel.

How did everyone get on this week?

NewYearNewYu · 10/03/2024 13:08

I weighed in on Friday and have lost 2lbs this week. Very happy, am expecting the weight loss to slow at some point though. Having a busy weekend of meals out etc so next weeks weigh in will be interesting.

Rowdythree · 10/03/2024 17:01

I have done a week of increasing my protein intake and I still haven't lost a thing! I haven't gained anything either, but the scales have not moved for 3 weeks now. I must be doing something wrong somewhere, so I'm going to have a read of the Gin Stephens book.

loveyouradvice · 10/03/2024 17:50

that's so annoying @Rowdythree ... let us know what you come up with...And what did you lose in the 3 weeks before that?? I've sometimes found I stall if I've lost a fair bit, and then it starts again...

Increased my protein too just 4 days ago so looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference for me

Rowdythree · 10/03/2024 17:55

I lost 1.3kg in the first 2 weeks, and then nothing since. I'm going to carry on with the increased protein as I found I was a lot less hungry than before, also I know I need to drink more water, so I'm going to give that a try this week too. Best of luck with your weigh in

loveyouradvice · 10/03/2024 20:54

Hmm... that IS frustrating ... hope it starts working for you soon xx

Rowdythree · 12/03/2024 11:35

Okay, so I've been listening to Fast Like a Girl by Dr Mindy Pelz, and I'm going to try and increase my fasting time. I'm going to start off pushing my breakfast back by 30 minutes and bringing dinner forward by 30 minutes so I'll have a 7 hour eating window. I'll give that a couple of weeks and see if anything shifts 🙏🏻

loveyouradvice · 12/03/2024 13:54

Sounds great @Rowdythree Good luck!!!

Buntyforgirls · 13/03/2024 11:57

Hello All, please may I join?
I have practised regularly over the years, usually 16:8. I feel so much better when I do, so want to follow for life.
I am interested in the health and longevity aspects, and losing abdominal fat. I would love my waist to shrink!
... glowing, radiant skin would be lovely too...!
Hoping to start some weekly longer fasts.
Have read Mindy P recently, and now reading FFR, as well as MM originally.
Thanks for reading!

pippablackwell · 13/03/2024 14:16

My weight loss has really stalled. I had a better weekend this time around, and this weekend I’m at home, so hopefully much easier!

Buntyforgirls · 14/03/2024 08:22

Hoping for a 20 hour fast today. Usually I manage 19, just about, so we shall see. Also, I didn't eat much yesterday, so not sure how this might impact.

Rowdythree · 14/03/2024 08:38

My scales have finally edged down slightly today by 0.6kg, which I'm extremely happy about after weeks of them refusing to budge!

Good luck with your fast Bunty!

pippablackwell · 14/03/2024 08:56

My scales also finally came down today! I’m not sure what’s been going on, but I’m now 2kg lighter than Monday after a two week plateau!

Good luck with your fast today Bunty.

Buntyforgirls · 14/03/2024 11:07

Thank you both, and well done for the losses.
I am at 18 hours now, but starting to lose concentration and focus on tasks, rather than feeling starving hungry.
Hmmmm....

Ahumanjellyfish · 14/03/2024 20:35

hello everyone, I wonder if I might join…I’m here because I don’t want to think about food all day and for the mental benefits. I thought I’d found If as the elixir.

I went off the rails at Christmas and never really returned. I did a few days on 18 hours but then binged and had a low mood. Most days I can get to 12 hours.

now wondering whether to keep trying and sought out some group support.

I had huge hormonal shifts and on hrt but monthly symptoms are horrible and my appetite correlates.

i wondered if going a group might help, so hope you don’t mind me jumping on. I’ll

Buntyforgirls · 14/03/2024 20:36

Did it! Hope today was positive for all.

OctopusRule · 14/03/2024 21:31

Hi new comers! We’re a friendly bunch in this little corner of MN.

I had a much better weekend because I did not touch alcohol! Makes me so much happier!

As it was Mother’s Day I have lots of chocolate - my own fault as I bloody love it so always ask for extra special chocolate. But I figure life is too short not to have some treats especially if I’m avoiding booze!

Not weighed myself, I’m trying to just go by clothes as I know from the past that weighing myself can cause really lows in my mood that I don’t think is healthy and can result in obsessive thoughts.

this week I’ve done 1 20 hour fast, then I’ve done between 16 - 18 hours. I actually don’t mind the 20 hour fast if I’m busy at work! The main thing I miss is tea!!!! (With milk obvs)

Reading what people have said above I know I need to increase my protein, I’m a vegetarian so need to be quite conscious of this.

Sorry that was long!

Anyway it’s Friday tomorrow yay!

OctopusRule · 14/03/2024 21:33

@Buntyforgirls well done! How often do you do a 20 hour?

Buntyforgirls · 15/03/2024 09:34

This was my first ( I usually do 16ish comfortably, but am flexible- IF doesn't limit me in any way. )
I ended eating just beyond TDEE (cake involved!), but the energy today is amazing!
Feel buzzing and ready to go, which I was not expecting. I guess the satisfaction of completing the fast helped.
I am not fasting today as I fancied a cup of tea with milk!
What's everyone else up to ?

Rowdythree · 15/03/2024 09:39

I really really miss my morning cup of tea with milk, once I start losing a bit more constantly I might introduce a weekend cup of tea.

That's great that you felt so energised after your fast! What a great feeling

pippablackwell · 15/03/2024 14:31

I have tea with milk as my weekend morning treat! In the week I’ve switched to Oolong tea, as I don’t miss the milk because it shouldn’t be there! Still not quite the same though.

Buntyforgirls · 15/03/2024 20:58

Interestingly I have begun to find my tea too milky ...

Rowdythree · 16/03/2024 08:46

All this talk of tea with milk, I decided to have one this morning, I'm not going to stress about it, I'll just fast again tomorrow
