4-week fasting countdown to December 2023

HarpQuartet · 04/11/2023 09:04

Come one, come all, this is the thread to see us through to December. We'll have four Friday weigh-ins: 10, 17 and 24 Nov, then (drum roll) 01 Dec, from whence time shall speed up scarily until the end of the year is in sight.

Thank you @Peae for previous threads and for asking if I'd be interested in starting this new countdown, and here is a roll call for those who may wish to continue with accountability, encouragement, sharing your wisdom, wins, or woes. All are very welcome plus of course anyone new who'd like to join us. Sincere apologies to anyone I’ve inadvertently missed out.

What an inspiring thread.
can I join you all for support and accountability?

I have reduced from 11 stone to 9 stone 5 through IMF and exercise. But a combination of lack of exercise and not committed to IMF has seem me creep back to 10 stone.
I’d love to be back to 9st 5 for 28th December when I go away. Eventual goal weight is 9 stone.
I’m only 5ft 2

i did okay with IF today (16:8) although did eat more carbs than I would have liked.

did Pilates class plus a 10 minute core work out.

I’ll weigh in properly tomorrow in case im
more than 10 stone 🤦‍♀️

Clearingaspace · 20/11/2023 22:31

Well done on sugar free Monday 🤩

@Sonnet good luck with the weighing scales tomorrow!

I finished my first 24 hour fast today, as we had someone coming to do a job in the house so I didn’t have much chance to eat.

Sonnet · 21/11/2023 07:55

SW: 9st 12
CW: 9st 12
GW: 9st 5

thank you for the welcome.
@Clearingaspace well done on 24 hour fast!

I have half a stone to loose which might not sound like a lot but at my age it’s a slow process 🤦‍♀️

HarpQuartet · 21/11/2023 09:36

Hi @Sonnet my progress is so slow! But for some reason it's not getting me down. I need to stop losing-gaining-losing, so if this is going to be the "forever" time then it'll be worth the weight.

OP posts:
pottypotamus · 21/11/2023 10:12

I've seen a +0.7kg gain this week -sigh- Sad
Anyone else find it hard to lose during their period? Maybe I'm just looking for excuses Blush

Clearingaspace · 21/11/2023 10:50

100% period affects me @pottypotamus - hopefully next week will make up for it.

Harp - I really need the mindset this is forever too. I think for me some sort of daily fast even if only 12 hours whenever practical from now on even if I lose all the weight - and probably 1 longer fast a week or something sounds doable long term.

@Sonnet its great that you are keeping on top of your weight - I seem to let mine spiral! Plus fasting has health benefits too.

Sonnet · 21/11/2023 13:34

Agree, I’m of the same mindset 😀@HarpQuartet

Sonnet · 21/11/2023 13:36

So I managed 16 hours without food, broke my fast with yogurt, berries and seeds
just done a 4 mile (slow) run in my lunch hour.
back to work now but will also attempt some core yoga later
keep going everyone 😀

Sonnet · 21/11/2023 13:37

Sorry, i meant to
ask what day do we weigh in?

Peae · 21/11/2023 13:57

Hello All! We check-in on Fridays.

Whereas I ate a load of chocolate.

Clearingaspace · 23/11/2023 07:35

@Sonnet sounds like a great day!

I am getting in a bit of a muddle about whether I should keep stuff in that I want to eat long term or just be strict. Had a Nero hot chocolate whilst Christmas shopping on tue eve and risotto and wine last night and it’s really undoing this weeks loss from sun and Monday! Think today will have to be an extra fast day ahead of weigh in 😅

HarpQuartet · 23/11/2023 09:50

@Clearingaspace I think I might have been wondering the same thing: do I stop buying (say) Tuc biscuits because I can eat a whole packet in one go, or do I have them in the house because in an ideal world I'd like to eat whatever I fancy, but just have a brain-body combination that enjoys one or two then has an 'off' switch.

Is that the sort of thing you've been wondering about too?

WEEK THREE CHECK IN TOMORROW,
FRIDAY 24 NOVEMBER!

OP posts:
HarpQuartet · 23/11/2023 09:56

I know that weighing yourself every day or two doesn't suit everyone, but I've been doing it this week and it's been motivating and encouraging. Barring a big old mess-up today (which I don't see happening: I've planned really nice meals and am quite busy throughout the day and into the evening) I hope to have moved off my plateau tomorrow! I'm writing it here now as a bit of accountability and a reminder to myself that getting into the 70-something kg range is what I really want.

OP posts:
Clearingaspace · 23/11/2023 12:47

@HarpQuartet yes exactly! I definitely need and want to eat healthier in general but don’t want to never eat bread, chocolate or whatever. I think saving the treats for mainly when I am out rather than at home will help a bit as it provides a boundary. The fasting has helped with one little thing in that it has provided a cut off point for tea and especially milky coffee - I seem to be incapable and of drinking a normal amount but this past week or so I am at least sticking with having it during my eating window which is reducing it as only having water when fasting. Some times it’s just easier to be strict. I could go keto to get weight off quicker and in some ways I would be easier - I just know I would rebound though and gain more than ever if I cut everything out.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 23/11/2023 17:29

Same here really... I've done the rapid loss then fall off the wagon before and don't really want to do that again. 2 years ago after low darning, I got down to below my current target and all was good until all the old habits crept back in, illness and injury meant I lost fitness and didn't exercise much at all, and this time around starting from the heaviest I've ever been.

So although I know I could be more strict about cutting carbs, I don't want to do that this time... I'm giving myself weekends off and trying to stick to healthier habits with IF.

And @HarpQuartet nice to hear someone else weighs more often... it is motivating when the scales show even a very small loss, and if there isn't, then I try to use that to make me refocus.

Fingers crossed for a good week for everyone at tomorrow's weigh in.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 23/11/2023 17:29

Low carbing - obviously - I like most people, don't do darning - life's too short to try to resuscitate old socks 😳

Clearingaspace · 23/11/2023 18:09

😂 better than low carving which is what I normally put!

I screwed up went for coffee with work colleagues and the coffee shop had run out of coffee - so I had hot chocolate again smh. fasting now and feeling hungry!

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 24/11/2023 05:59

Early weigh in this morning

SW (30th October) 11 5.6
Target 9 stone
Today 10 12.4

I'll take that as at the beginning of the week, post holiday it was back up at 11 5.2 😳 after far too much sangria, beer and gin...

Just need to be sensible for the weekend where I can ... off to a work do with DH tonight and Sunday lunch at DMs so it's not going to be easy!!

HarpQuartet · 24/11/2023 07:06

80.7kg

Down 0.7kg from last week and I'm happy. I feel like this week is going to get me closer to 80, then a bit more in December will get me into the 70s, a good psychological boost.

OP posts:
gettingolderbutcooler · 24/11/2023 07:14

106.5 in October.
105.5 on 17/11
103.9 on 24/11
Fast days are Mondays and Wednesdays.
So yesterday (Thursday) stuffed myself with a Cook lasagna.
Not great. 😞
Also found out my cholesterol is v high so hoping this helps.
Well done everyone though for keeping on keeping on! Xx
