Hi everyone,
started the 16:8 routine tonight. I’m sick of feeling bloated after meals and generally unhappy with the way I look.
Would love to hear from anyone else who is doing 16:8?

I started doing 16:8 after about 2 months I just naturally moved to 18:6 I lost just under 12lbs in first 5 weeks, sleep better, feel lighter, I stopped the weekly weigh in after 2 months and now just step on the scales around once a month. I’ve gone from a tight size 18 to a comfortable size 10. I do exercise for 7 hours a week nothing too taxing mainly walking and slow run (35 min 5k park run) I do about 2 24 hour fasts a month and eat relatively healthy which seems to come naturally after you start to feel and look better but I do have lots of treats too. I still like a bit of booze each week but do drink gallons of water, I rarely eat sugar now, the urge just disappears and no bread, I haven’t eaten bread for 9 months. I can totally recommend fasting, it’s not a quick fix it’s a way of life.

Yes me! I have sooo much weight to lose it's scary but with school going back it seems a good time.

I could do with finding a little app where you can just hit a button to time your fast. Maybe I should just set myself a countdown in my clock app.

I am absolutely awful for snacking, especially late at night, so it's going to be tough.

Niinja · 18/09/2023 22:10

@allthegoodusernameshavegone that's incredible, well done! I simply can't imagine being a size 10.

Canyoucheckonme · 18/09/2023 22:10

I've been doing this intermittently for a couple of years now. Find it easier at some points in the month than others.

My main aim is to finish eating and drinking by around 6pm then not eat until 10am - 12.00 noon. I do this perhaps 4-5 days a week.

Are you using an app to start with? I found Fastic useful to track and to help teach me what was happening with my body.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 18/09/2023 22:12

I’ve started it too and I’m struggling with my deciding to poo between 4-8pm, really urgent need. Sometimes later. Any tips to help this?

Wow it sounds like you have done amazing! Well done on your weight loss 😀

I had always eaten breakfast and then had some supper btw, so stopping eating and drinking around 6pm and not having breakfast was so hard at first!! It's taken ages to get used to but now it's absolutely fine.

I found it interesting that my evening "hunger pangs" were actually just my gut digesting the day's food!! I felt sick and horror last weekend (no idea why, maybe a bug) and didn't eat for 25hrs and was honestly fine. Never thought I'd be like that.

I can honestly say I enjoy food A LOT more after a long fast, too.

Doodlesd11 · 18/09/2023 22:13

Niinja - I am using a free app called fasten which basically just times your fast x

Thank you for the app recs, I will look them up.

I also use my fitness pal and calorie count 1500 a day but not strictly

JofraArchersFastestBall · 19/09/2023 07:07

I'm a newbie - been doing it for almost 2 weeks. I'm so surprised by how simple it is. Usually on a diet I'm obsessing about food - counting calories or thinking about what I'm not allowed to eat. Because this is less restrictive it doesn't trigger that for me, so I'm calmly sticking to two healthy meals a day with no snacking.

I already feel better (that might be just giving up the booze though!) and I've lost 1.5kg.

I'm using Fastic to track my fasts.

mamatoTails · 19/09/2023 09:50

Hi 👋🏻 yes I've been doing 17:7 since the beginning of the month and down 5.5lb

Plenty of water too, and trying to get my 10k steps in a day, but of course the kids have all been poorly with various things since going back to school, so some days the steps aren't quite as good as I'd want!

Yes, that’s another thing, food tastes so much better when you are hungry.

Niinja · 20/09/2023 18:15

How are you all getting on?

Terrible day here. Stuck to my hours ok but ate a whole bag of marshmallows. Oops. Also forgot to drink much water.

Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 20/09/2023 18:55

@Niinja I'm still enjoying the fasting - but I did have a (delicious!) cake from the work cafe today. I blame my substandard packed lunch.

Ah well. I'm sticking to my hours and will pack something more tempting for lunch tomorrow.

Canyoucheckonme · 21/09/2023 22:31

Thanks for the reminder re lots of water! I made a concerted effort today to drink my 600ml bottle at my desk, and had a large fruit tea too.

Weekends are usually harder for me to fast so I relax and enjoy some movie night treats with the kids. I'd love to lose the 3kg I gained earlier this year tho! But as I'm hitting middle age it's proving harder and harder. I do think cutting right back on alcohol and fasting is helping me maintain my weight. Going to go for a walk Saturday with friends so looking forward to that.

Lilifer · 25/09/2023 13:51

Oh so glad I found this! I started 16/8 last week with a break at the weekend for my daughters graduation - is it effective to do this fast 5 days a week or is it meant to be done 7 days a week??

Canyoucheckonme · 26/09/2023 18:02

I've only done 4 or 5 days for the past few years and it's helped maintain. I need to lose 3-4kgs so need to be stricter with what I eat again and start fasting more often....

mrssunshinexxx · 26/09/2023 19:25

@mamatoTails how much water do you drink?

theunbelievabletruth · 27/09/2023 23:54

I'm so happy to have found this thread. I have been doing 16:8 for 15 days and can't believe how easier I've found it. I enjoy the simplicity of the fast. Nothing to work out or count. Just don't eat. After the first day I have not been hungry at all. In fact I often go another hour or so beyond the official end time (for me that's 5pm - 9am)
I'm also using the fast 800 recipe book. Have porridge or eggs plus veg for brunch and some protein plus loads of veg for early supper.

Was 95.8 kg size 18.
2 weeks in and I'm 90.7 kg size 16 and have kicked all added sugar.

Have never felt so healthy. Have even started going back to the gym and swimming AND enjoying it. ! Now I no longer feel knackered all the time.

Its literally miraculous.
