Exercising during fast?

I’m thinking of trying 16:8 with an eating window of 11am to 7pm.

If I want to go to the gym in the morning (before 11), will I manage it?

I'd like to know this too!

oviraptor21 · 01/05/2023 22:11

I don't eat usually until at least 1 or 2pm. I exercise in the mornings. If I have more exercise scheduled for eg. 2pm I won't eat before hand as I can't exercise on a full stomach.
May not work for everyone but for me, 'fasting' then exercising is perfectly normal.

give it a try.
I sometimes go for a run early, before breakfast and it's fine. tbh I can't eat close to exercising so it suits me. but I know others who have to have something before.

It works fine for me, give it a go and take it easy at first! If I exercise later in the afternoon (I usually just have an evening meal) I often have a stock cube hot drink just before as I find the salt helps and there's only 5 cals in it, so it's not supposed to break the fast.

I can usually happily run up to 12km during my fasting period (I do 12-8pm). I think your body gets used to it, as long as you hydrate!

I workout 6-7am and usually break my fast around 1/2pm. I’ve been doing it for about 15 years and it’s totally fine.

I used to train every day whilst fasted. It actually helped to distract me from wanting to eat!
I'm currently doing 5:2 and manage to run or weight train on FDs

LakeFlyPie · 15/05/2023 08:16

I do a BodyPump or HIIT class on a cup of herbal tea and a coffee with generous splash of skimmed milk (so not strictly fasted) a few times a week. Don't eat til lunch and manage fine

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/07/2023 19:18

I find it much easier to run in the morning while fasting than later in the day after food.

CharlotteBog · 26/07/2023 19:53

So you will have eaten around 7pm, then exercise in the morning before having breakfast at 11am?
I think very many people do this, don't they? What's the problem?

WildFeathers · 26/07/2023 19:57

I can’t exercise on a full stomach as I’ve got a hiatus hernia and it just makes me feels so sick and reflux-y. I go to a class at 9:30 and eat when I get home afterwards. Sometimes that ends up being 1-2pm if I’ve got stuff to do in town. It works for me. Sometimes I do a class like CrossFit and then a 5km run afterwards. I do make sure I’m very well hydrated. Everyone is different though. Give it a go and you’ll see if it suits you or not to have a meal before or afterwards.
