Trying fasting again

TomAllenWife · 11/04/2023 08:35

I used to do the 16:8
Then started calorie counting

But the peri menopausal weight is piling on and I'm now a stone overweight

So I'm going to eat between 12 & 8pm today if anyone else is doing this I'd love to know

I started 16:8 last Monday, eating the same times as you and lost 3.5lbs so far.

I've done it before but never managed a clean fast before. I'm having water in my fasting window now and finding it a lot easier than I thought I would actually.

I'm bad for snacking on an evening so this is the main thing that it's helped with as well as automatically cutting down calories by skipping breakfast.

How're you finding it so far?

TomAllenWife · 13/04/2023 07:17

That's a good loss 👍🏻 I lost 1kg in a day but that'll be water

I'm eating lots of protein so have felt really full. Like you I'm terrible for evening snacking, especially crisps

I'm off work now until Monday so suspect it'll be much harder

I started at the beginning of 2 weeks off for Easter hols so haven't done it while working yet. I've found it easier when I've been busy while off work but on days when I've been at home, I've tried to drink plenty of water, especially in moments when I've felt hungry.

TomAllenWife · 13/04/2023 08:08

I've just weighed again and have lost 5lbs in 2 days 😱
Just hope I can keep it up without much routine

Pebbleinthesand · 13/04/2023 10:59

Incredible start!

Don't be discouraged if it moves up and down within the week. I got weighed yesterday and then again this morning and I was 1.5lbs higher this morning. I'm going to try to hold off weighing again until next Wednesday because I don't want to get discouraged if my weight creeps up on some days.

How are you finding the timing of 12-8? I ate tea later last night so will end up fasting until 1 today rather than 12.

TomAllenWife · 13/04/2023 11:12

Yeah it's ok but am starving today because I'm just sat on a train

Hi 👋
I'd like to join in please. I need a kick up the backside some accountability!

I've done 16:8 in the past with a lot of success but, that was before perimenopause came along.

I would find it helpful to log my weight and BMI and, hopefully, any weight loss here.
So:
Current weight 83Kg / BMI 29.5. Much higher than I feared even 🙈

I will refresh my memory of the Fast 800 diet and 16:8 this evening and aim to make the start tomorrow.

My nemesis is definitely snacking on crisps and nuts once my children have gone up to bed. That needs to go!!

You both seem to have made a successful start, well done 🙂

TomAllenWife · 13/04/2023 11:24

Hi @CoolCalmCollected yep perimenopause is a bitch

I'm not doing any days at 800 cals. Trying to get 1250 in as training most days

My biggest downfall will be alcohol, I can easily do 5 pints a night on weekends 😩

I noticed some weird symptoms during the lockdowns but never even considered it could be menopause as I was only 37 at that time. It was the GP suggested the possibility and now I'm 40 and in the thick of it.
I find most of the previous symptoms are improving on HRT, apart from my ability to lose even 1lb of this weight (and its all on my stomach, thighs and bum 😭) None of my old tricks work. So, I guess it's time to stop the tricks and just properly commit to a sensible and sustainable plan.

We have Gousto meal prep boxes so it should be very easy to calorie count. I don't drink alcohol but I am a very badly-behaved vegetarian - Chocolate, chips and cheese 😂

runwithme · 13/04/2023 11:50

Funny enough, I was thinking of trying again, from next week (going away this weekend, so definitely not missing out on the hotel breakfast!). My issue is, I am up from 6.30am, and I work from home. How on earth do I resist temptation?! I had two breakfasts today, out of boredom! Small, but still. And I've just had lunch!

Pebbleinthesand · 13/04/2023 18:59

Welcome @CoolCalmCollected and @runwithme

I've been at home for the week and a half since starting and honestly found that because I'm in the fasting period I'm nit tempted to snack. I don't know if this would be the same if I were home alone and working so I can definitely see why that would be tricky.

I'm terrible for snacking on chocolate on an evening and don't drink often but when I do my drink of choice is a big glass of Baileys so definitely not very calorie friendly.

How does fast 800 work? I've only done 16:8 and not tracked calories, although I do follow slimming world so generally eating healthily with that anyway.

TomAllenWife · 13/04/2023 20:42

I have struggled a bit today between travelling and migraine
Still packed a salad for the trip
Had a couple of falafels and some popcorn
Plenty of water
Dinner was cooked for me so just went with it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi, can I join too please? Think this might be something that could work for me but need some help to get me going (am notorious for giving up about a 4 hours after I start any diet/healthy eating regime and tell myself I'll start again tomorrow!). Will post on here to keep myself motivated and hopefully your success stories will keep me going.

MayQueeen · 16/04/2023 23:10

I’m joining in too! Had been doing something similar but last couple of weeks haven’t been sticking to it. Fresh start tomorrow!

CoolCalmCollected · 18/04/2023 10:13

Morning all!
How's everyone getting on?

I've been sticking to the fasting window quite well. And keeping within my daily calorie allowance.
Just need to increase my physical activity a little. Went on a lunchtime walk yesterday and I plan to do the same today.

TomAllenWife · 19/04/2023 04:57

I am not doing great 😥
Had a bit of a cold this week so starving and binge eating

I tried on a dress last night that I wore only last summer and it wouldn't even go round me

I'm feeling pretty shit about myself tbh

OP posts:
CoolCalmCollected · 19/04/2023 13:19

Sorry you're feeling rough @TomAllenWife If you're ill, all bets are off as far as I'm concerned. Just be kind to yourself. Take it easy. You can jump straight back on the wagon once you're feeling better Flowers

MayQueeen · 21/04/2023 08:25

@TomAllenWife its the cold making your mood feel more deflated, happens to me too. Try to remind yourself it’s a temporary feeling 💐

Have roughly stuck to it this week, mostly ate healthy in the evenings, aside from some sweets in the cinema. Plus also my pmt week so v bloated and recovering from a bug so activity has been low this week. However still down a couple of pounds which I can only attribute to fasting during the day. V impressed. Now only have ten pounds (it’s taken me about a year to get off one stone) left to lose - any way I can boost it and lose the last few pounds quickly? Maybe reducing processed carbs?

TomAllenWife · 24/04/2023 08:48

I've just come back from a city break where I felt so overweight and uncomfortable

I'm going to do 5 days of the grapefruit diet this week to kickstart me
Also no alcohol other than vodka & soda for may

How's everyone else?

OP posts:
CoolCalmCollected · 25/04/2023 11:13

I'm doing ok so far. Lost 2.5lb the first week.
I'm starting with a personal trainer today, but one that focuses on women and womens' health, specially menopause and pelvic floor issues.

I've tried to switc my thinking round this time with food. Normally, I constantly think about what I can't have. I've made a really conscious effort this time to think about what I can have.
My fitness tracker is noticing a difference. Better sleep and "body battery" levels etc.

Hope everyone else is doing ok?
