What can I drink as part of 16:8?

Specifically - the 16 hours! Is it just plain water? What about flavoured spring water (1 cal). Coffee with semi skimmed milk?

Thinking of giving this a go. As I’m not a big breakfast fan anyway and often skip, and I’m not drinking at the moment, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to my current habits

Not an expert on this but I was told or read that I can drink water, herbal teas and black coffee or tea - no milk or sugar allowed!!

What pp said.

Nothing that will make your insulin spike

Youngatheart00 · 09/01/2022 10:52

I can’t bear the thought of black coffee and I’m not sure I’ll get through this without a shot of caffeine in the morning!!

Herbal teas will be fine for the evenings

You shouldn’t drink anything sweet as it stimulates insulin production and will undo the effects of fasting (and make you hungry!)

Water, black coffee, unflavoured herbal teas, unflavoured sparkling water.

It’s surprising how easy it is to get used to black coffee. It didn’t take me long.

purplesequins · 09/01/2022 10:56

you will get used to it quickly.
if it's the bitterness you object to try diluting the coffee with water. or use less powder if that's the kind of coffee you drink.

Ok, thanks for the tips. You’ve inspired me to give it a go with the black coffee.

Basically, I’m a horrible cook and therefore most diets I fail at as I just don’t have the capability or motivation to meal plan. I’m hoping restricting hours of eating and just being more mindful of my choices might kick start something. I’ll see how I go with weekdays following the plan for 2-3 weeks

I’m not a fan of black coffee either OP but I don’t mind it with a pinch of salt in it or I’ll have black tea instead

RealHousewifeOfPontypandy · 19/01/2022 13:16

I read somewhere that as long as you dont go over 50 cals in your fasting window its ok, so would this include a tea with skimmed milk, or is milk a no-no? I NEEEDDDD that one teas in the morning.

Any tips to make black coffee less vile, without sweetner?!

CrabPuff · 19/01/2022 16:36

Black coffee is fine I think. I didn’t like the idea of it but I managed to ween myself off two sugars a couple of years ago so it’s not that hard. I want to be slim more than I want milk in my coffee anyway.

I’ve lost loads of weight doing 16:8 and have had a cup of tea with semi-skimmed milk first thing every morning, and a cup of herbal tea last thing every night.
