Hi all. I'm quite big at 15 stone 7 and 5"4 (212lb 163cm). I need to lose weight not just for my wedding next June but for my own health. I have come across this app called "Fastic". I have a few questions. I'm a big calorie counter but it's not working out. I wouldn't have a clue where to start with eating normally or eating healthily. How would I make sure I don't eat too many calories within the fasting window where I can eat? I've tried eating intuitively in the past and always ate too much healthy stuff and always felt starving and gained weight! I don't trust myself.

Hi! Im pretty new to fasting myself (have been doing the 16.8 for around 12 days and have been pleased with the results so far (4 pound loss). I'm a slimming world fan but have struggled recently with menopause, with teeny losses, and at least for now 16.8 is working for me. Like you my wedding is next summer (August!) and nothing like the dress I purchased a year ago no longer zipping up 🤣
Re calories try the MFP app - it will work out your daily calorie limit based on what you want to lose (and how quickly) and the basic (perfectly fine) version is free. Im a veggie and most meals plant based, but have found the fasting is really helping with my blood sugar and my (previously out of control) sugar cravings. Im very unfashionable in that high (comlex) carb, low fat works very well for me. What kind of things do you like eating?

I'm trying to get out of calorie counting its become too much which is why I want to do fasting. Glad you are doing well with it thag is inspiring and hope I will be the same. I'm really a snacking type of person and only really have dinner so I don't know what I would have for lunch really as I see most people have two meals and snacks a day in their window.

I think one meal a day, albeit with snacks , is pretty hard core if you're starting fasting for the first time. I fit breakfast, lunch and dinner into my fasting window, and don't really snack. The way (from my limited knowledge) that fasting can go wrong is that some people can actually end up overeating in the anticipation of the upcoming fast'. If you're not counting calories you might find that you're taking in more energy that you're burning up, despite your best intentions. There is a school of thought that fasting in and of itself will cause weight loss regardless of what you eat, but the jury's out on this (see Jillian Michael's youtube talks - good on this). I'd suggest downloading the Fastic app - it'll give you a gentle start to the whole fasting journey. Good luck!

I think fasting works no matter what you eat. I have one slice of toast with marmite or a little peanut butter for dinner, and either a low sugar milky cocoa, or a stick or two of dark chocolate in the evening. During the day I have coffee (with milk) and no added sugar squash to drink. It is massively effective for me, and really funny for me when people ask me, How'd you lose so much weight? What do you eat on fast days? And I'm all "toast and chocolate" :)
