Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Anyone not had good results on Fast 800?

I might be a bit premature as I only started this on Monday but weighed today (official weigh in will be Monday but as I’m planning a long bike ride tomorrow I will have to eat a bit more afterwards so wanted to check my progress now).

I’m only 3lbs down. I know 3lbs is 3lbs but I thought the whole point of the fast 800 was to see a big loss in week 1 which helps with motivation. Certainly the losses I’ve seen on here and Instagram and in general have been much bigger.

I can’t help feeling really disappointed. I know my result on Monday might be more of a loss but I just feel annoyed. I could have lost 3lbs doing a less restrictive diet.

I have stuck to the plan and not cheated, drank loads of water and herbal teas and done exercise (combination of strength training, walking and cycling).

I will carry on and do the 2 weeks but feel really deflated today. I do also have the weight to lose so that’s not the reason I haven’t lost as much and my period isn’t due for a couple of weeks so I don’t think it’s that either. I just don’t understand how such a drastic change in diet doesn’t show on the scales (not taken my measurements yet but visually I don’t look any different).

Eugh

Sorry, meant to ask did anyone see a smaller loss than were expecting in week 1? Did you carry on? Has anyone had a bigger loss in week 2?

When you do more exercise, I think you see less of a loss on the scale due to water retention, then it drops off. Definitely take your measurements and measure that weekly as you’ll be gaining muscle too.
I lost around 5lbs in week 1 I think and 1stone 9lbs total since 1st Feb.

ChippyTea16 · 03/04/2021 16:09

That’s a great loss @Onamissionn well done! So I don’t think I do so much exercise it has an impact (I thought they encouraged hiit on the plan?). I’m sure I read that if you already exercise then to carry on as long as you’re not doing intense endurance exercise (which I’m not). But I guess I just need to carry on and see what happens

I started Sunday and weighed myself this morning and I had lost 9lb which I'm happy about, but I do have a lot to lose

RedHotChiliChips · 05/04/2021 11:26

Yes, you are being premature and tbh bit silly to expect a miracle after 5 days. Some people lose a lot at first, some lose less, it varies wildly and depends on so many factors.

How much do you have to lose? Are you definitely following the plan? No diet drinks, artificial sweeteners etc? I know there's overnight oats in the plan but having them everyday isn't recommenced etc.

I started the Fast800 plan in October, I did 5:2 all along as I "only" had a stone to lose to be back in normal range. I think my first week's loss was about 1.5kg which is approx 3 pounds I think. I was delighted with it and what helped was that I wasn't part of any weightloss groups were the comparison can be a thief of joy. I steadily lost weight and what was particularly encouraging how this way of eating cuts into the fat on your waist. With any other ways of dieting, I never managed to reduce my belly size as much.

Don't give up, you will thank yourself later if you stick to it.

Hello! I'm starting Fast 800 as of tomorrow and was browsing mumsnet to see if anyone else is just starting too, and I came across this thread.

I noticed that diet drinks aren't allowed - oops. I'd planned on a sugar-free Red Bull as an energy boost in the mornings . . .

wardribe · 11/04/2021 23:42

I drink Diet Coke hasn't seemed to make a difference to me

RedPandaFluff · 12/04/2021 06:53

That's good to hear, @wardribe - I think I'll probably continue as planned, then. I don't like tea or coffee so sugar-free energy drinks are a good way of getting a morning caffeine hit for me!

MaudesMum · 24/05/2021 07:57

I've just lost 7 1/2lbs in 10 days, which I'm pretty damn pleased about! I've stuck to it except for 1 lunch out, when I was as careful as I could be about what I ate, and had one glass of red wine. I'm hoping to sustain it for a month (with a few more meals out on the way) and I'm aware that this level of loss won't be sustained for the rest of the month - it would be lovely to get close to a stone, though!

DaisyWaldron · 25/05/2021 18:59

I'm just popping in to say hello, because I will be starting on 1st June.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/05/2021 07:44

Following, as DH and I are also planning on starting this in a week or so.

Mrstwiddle · 27/05/2021 07:47

I’ve read flavoured sodas, even if calorie free raise your insulin levels, so if I were you, I’d stick to black coffee/tea during fasting hours.

Summersnake · 27/05/2021 07:54

I did this diet .lost 7 stone 3 years ago
Now I’m heavier than when I started and it triggered binge eating disorder in me ..

KittytheHare · 28/05/2021 19:55

@Mrstwiddle, there are no conclusive studies that show that diet drinks/most artificial sweeteners cause insulin spikes in humans. For some of us, a diet coke is the only thing that makes the fast bearable!

For anyone thinking of joining the fast 800 online programme be aware that the recent implementation of a new website is not going well. Luckily those of us who started before the change over have been given access to the old site temporarily while they try to sort it out but it's been a shambles for over a month now.
Fantastic diet, I've lost 2 stone in 6 weeks and the recipes are easy and tasty. So much to love about the program but they launched the new site with no apparent testing and made a complete bollox of it.
