Has anyone had any experience with early time-related fasting, or eTRF?
I had some success last autumn with intermittent fasting based on the Delay, Don't Deny book. However I fell off the wagon at Christmas and have never managed to get started again. Typically I ate in a 4-5 hour window, starting at about 5 pm. Although I lost some weight and felt generally less bloated, I struggled with fatigue, irritability and poor tolerance to exercise during the day. It also didn't help my evening wine/snack habits. Finally I struggled to stick to an entirely clean fast as I just couldn't drink coffee without a small amount of skimmed milk.
Anyway I have been doing a bit more reading on the science behind fasting and there does seem to be some preliminary evidence that eating most of your calories in the morning/early afternoon and then fasting through the evening and night may give better results than eating later in the day. This may be because our bodies are more sensitive to insulin in the morning than later in the day.
I have decided to give this a try this week. My main concerns are that I won't be able to eat dinner with my family and might struggle in the evenings. However a few early nights might also do me some good.
Just wondered if anyone else ate early and fasted later. Or if anyone else had moved their eating window early and found any benefits?
