Restarting 5:2, how many calories on fast days?

I last did 5:2 when it was 500kcal on fast days and then your TDDE on non fast days.
I’ve heard it’s now 800kcal on fast days, is this still true if I’m only doing two fasts a week and not ‘every day’?
I only want to lose about half a stone, I’m not overweight technically but my summer clothes from last year are a bit tight Blush

You can do either. The current 800 book recommends a 16:8 pattern (eating in a 8 hour window), but 800 every day until you lose the weight. Then back to 500 days twice a week if you feel like it afterwards.

Can I join you @Cassiewoowoo please? I think I need someone to keep me company....I lost over a stone on 5:2 a few years back, and maintained it using 6:1 for ages, but my weight has slowly crept up over the past 12 months (too much stress and sugar at work) and suddenly I’m a full stone over where I want and need to be.

Tbh, it’s scary, as I’ve never weighed this much before in my life, and I can’t seem to budge it. Every time I lose 3-4lbs I seem to lose control and pile it back on again.
Oh dear 😥

Yes fillybuster come and join me! I’m starting next week as I’m off work this week and find fasts much easier when I’m busy at work. I’m planning my first one for Monday and another Wednesday!

Thanks @cassie ! I started today (no time like the present, and all that..,) but will welcome company when you’re good to go next week. I’ll be doing Monday & Wednesday too, so we can keep each other honest Grin

When I was losing weight I did 500 on 5:2. Now I'm maintaining I do 600 once a week.

The 800 every day sounds too hard to me.

cassiewoowoo · 02/06/2019 12:54

fillybuster how did your fast go?

I’m on the first one today and it seems HARD. I’ve not eaten anything, just had a coffee and lots of water. Saving all 500 calories for chicken Thai curry with broccoli rice and some berries and low fat Greek yogurt for dessert.

Hi can I join you two please?
I have decided to try 5:2 again. I have done it once before but gave up very quickly. This time I am determined as my sister lost loads of weight doing it.
Today I am doing my first fast day and I had forgotten how hard it is!

I lost well over a stone the first time I tried 5:2 and kept most of it off for about 3 years, then back it crept. Sad I'm now, like Fillybuster, a stone over where I want to be and my clothes don't fit. But this time it's so HARD. I'm cheating in all sorts of little ways and snacking mindlessly, and constantly thinking about food, and where my next meal is coming from (I love cooking).

Having salad most lunchtimes and still the weight doesn't shift. I've slipped into habits like having olive oil on salad leaves, or a bit of feta, or olives, and there we go - that's no longer a fasting salad, is it? Sad

Feels like, once I passed 45, a magic and invisible switch flipped and the weight just stays on. I'm losing and gaining the same three pounds over and over.
