Would you recommend BSD for me? Hypothyroid IVFer

Hi ladies,

I have had a really miserable 2.5 years on multiples rounds of failed fertility treatment and two ivf cycles earlier this year. Moved clinics and found out I’m hypothyroid. Desperate to lose the stone and half I’ve put on in this time to make me feel a bit less crap about myself but it’s not shifting with weightwatchers or 1200-1300 cals a day.

I just want your view on how to cope with 800 cals a day and if anyone has had a thyroid issue and success as my T3 is the issue. Overall my diet is BSD friendly apart from the evening snacks which I love e.g some dark chocolate and halo top or oppo ice cream. Any tips on giving up snacks appreciated too!! I’ve got the BSD book but just scared to start and that I’ll be hungry and more depressed!!!

I sympathise as I’m also hypothyroid and find it very difficult to lose weight. 1200 is too much for me too, and I don’t lose anything when I eat that much. I don’t really have advice on how to make it easier, but you’ll find that when you see weight loss on the scales that will make you feel happier about yourself.

I’m trying to stick to 800 a day, but do find it difficult and I’m trying to reduce the calories so that I can incorporate a snack (I obviously don’t recommend you to do this, but I’m just trying to make it work long term for me).

@Raisinsraisins thanks so much for replying. It’s really nice to know I’m not going insane!!! Are you on levothyroxine too? Does it help at all?
I’m going to start today and try and include a snack to keep me sane! Thankyou 😘

Yes I’m on Levothyroxine. I was on a dose of 150 but it’s been reduced to 100, whIch is maybe why I’m finding it more difficult to lose weight. Not sure if you’ve started on your Levothyroxine yet, but I did find that my energy levels improved once I started, and I didn’t feel as tired.

I’m glad it helped, I’ve been on 50mg for nearly two weeks but don’t feel any different at all yet! Have a blood test to assess dose in another two weeks so will see.

Good luck with your weight loss! I may be joining one of these threads for support too so hopefully we will both smash it ! xx

Hi OP, just wondered how you were getting on? My thyroid sounds very similar to yours and my consultant recommended SW, to be honest when I stuck to it I did lose weight but I found if I did much as had some cake for someone's birthday I would gain about 3lb that week.
I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and struggling to lose the weight still.

Summerloving17 · 19/09/2018 08:06

Hey so unfortunately so far I’ve lost nothing Hmm, however I have stuck to 1200 calories as I wanted to see if the levothyroxine might help. Spoke to my consultant yesterday and we are going to try 75 however she recommended doing high impact exercise (Hiit) at least 3-4 times per week and watching carbs/sugar so low GI. I think now I understand about calories and nutrition I find it hard to follow SlimmingWorld, however if it works for you go for it!
I think I’m going to try and be stricter for the next few weeks and maybe BSD on 1000 calories, I just need to be more prepared so I’m not starving when rushing in from work or tempted by chocolate!! I might join the main BSD thread so join with me and we can spur each other on!! X

I think bread definitely makes a different but I've had 4 slices today as trying to blitz the house while kids at school! 🙈

I'll have a look at that thread thanks and i'm also thinking of joining WW online to see it that helps as I really need to do something x
