Is my husband doing this wrong ?

My husband is doing 5:2 but has decided to take the fasting literally and is eating nothing at all on two days. He says he finds it easier to cut out completely than limited. He eats sensibly on the other days, low carb, high protein, more fats than he used to. He's very fit and doesn't need to lose weight overall but is a bit obsessed about the smallest bit of residual tummy .

We've edited the title now. Hopefully some wise MNers will be along soon to answer your query...

He doesn't have to eat! He's just fasting - which is great. As long as he's taking in his fluids he'll be fine.

I follow the 5:2 and the eating 500 calories is to.preserve your muscle mass (600 for a man). The most beneficial but hardcore way to do the intermittent fast, is 2 days, back to back, but on 650 calories a day for a woman (I'm guessing at 750 for a man.)

And yes, it is easier to eat nothing than something.

mrsmuggins53 · 02/02/2018 19:23

It's totally fine. Some people find it easier to fast and not eat. Not s problem.

As long as he’s drinking water and not doing heavy exercise on those days it’s fine.
