Still trying to get my head around this. Have got the BSD book now and will read this weekend. I need to get moving. Sounds like many of you are doing well and totally endorse the 'at least I am doing it' approach!

A stupid question, is tea/coffee allowed? And milk with it? I like skimmed anyway and not full fat but wonder if an issue.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/10/2017 09:52

Pandas tea, coffee, herbal tea etc are all ok. Just calorie count your milk. I used to drink only skimmed milk, but have switched up to semi (cannot do blue top!) as I do then find my morning coffee quite satisfying. I measure 100ml milk (49cals) and make 2-3 coffees with that each day.

Last night was good, no pudding, gin and slimline tonics and although my food wasn't on plan really it wasn't massively carby either. Currently baking my last birthday cake if the year (phew!) - well, last one except Jesus' Christmas cake. And to finally torture myself, it's a chocolate orange cake, with no less that a whole chocolate orange on the top. I really am a glutton for punishment. Halloween party later so not sure what will be on offer.

Thanks for all the advice thenewaveragebear, have just filled up my online trolley ready for delivery tomorrow! Fingers crossed...

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 28/10/2017 13:14

bear your chocolate orange cake sounds amazing.
I'm away for the weekend so am giving myself time off from BSD-ing. I had cake this morning which was gorgeous but it made me realise cafes serve and sell massive portions. BSD has definitely changed my perception of portion size.

Look away now......

OMG! I am salivating! Have fallen heavily off the wagon! Drinking wine as we speak! It’s exactly as I feared! Need to get a grip!

bear that looks lush!
Ramsay I'm drinking a G&T - cheers! 🥂

Hi all
I’m thinking of doing the BSD med diet low carb and combining it with IF 16:8 and I’m wondering if I’ll lose weight. I’ve been doing a low carb high fat diet (not BSD) for 12 weeks and have lost 12lb. Which I’m really pleased about 😀😀 BUT my biggest issue is that I’ve been constipated throughout despite eating loads of veg and drinking 3 litres plus of water a day. I take magnesium and FOS/inulin too but still remain bunged up!! I have IBS and problems with my gut and took the advice given on Michaels Clever guts site on sorting my gut out before I did the LCHF diet. I’ve also had issues with sugar and have probably been pre diabetic in the past. As well as the low carb high fat I’ve been doing IF 16:8 for 5 days each week
I’m now realising that I can’t keep the low carb up as a way of life if it means I’m constipated all the time and I’ve got about 7-10lb more to lose. So I started thinking I need to be eating more pulses like beans, lentils and seeds etc – they’ve always worked for me in shifting things!! I see there’s a.BSD med diet Low carb high fat version
So my point is if I do a BSD low carb med diet – which allows me to eat pulses and seeds and do IF 16:8 as I’ve been doing will I continue to lose weight?
Has anyone got any experience of this and successfully losing weight?
Thanks for reading this far!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/10/2017 11:00

No more welcome. Some people do find they get quite constipated. The trick is to eat more fibre carbs I think, so choose low carb options that have a fibre content. You should be aiming for about 14g per 1000 cals, so probably 10-12 g a day. Foods such as pomegranate seeds, beans etc will help that total.
Sorry for a bit of TMI coming up..... Grin Constipation is about ahem consistency, rather than frequency. You may find if you've a) cut your total food bulk down dramatically by cutting calories and b) also eating high density calories in the form of fat, cheese, meat etc, that's there simply isn't as much to process. You might go less frequently that you're used to, and may not actually be constipated as such. If you have symptoms like pain, bloating etc then perhaps try things like psyllium husks, chia seeds, or soluble fibre sachets?

This is why the 'counting carbs' mentality isn't wholly correct for this diet. The tendency to reduce carbs to 50g (or use those 50g to allow 'bad' carbs like a slice of bread cake) can mean that within the calorie quota you aren't getting enough variety of foods. If you use the allowed foods, and incorporate veg, you will naturally achieve an amount of fibre. Whole carbohydrate foods, as opposed to stripped carbs/white carbs, will have a fibre content- fibre isn't digested to if you do count carbs to 50g (or whatever) you can technically deduct those fibre grams from your carb totals (net carbs).

I’ve fallen off the wagon in a big way. Did the first four weeks and lost 14lbs, then restarted week 1, was a bit on and off, lost another 2lbs, then a combination of parties, people staying over, lack of focus/willpower have meant I’ve put 2lbs back on. I’ve also felt rubbish - sore throat, very catarrhy, achy Sad. I really don’t want to go back to old habits but I’m finding this really hard now even though I flew through the first 4 weeks Confused
I think I need to take a deep breath and just start again. I’m hoping the feeling rubbish bit is just an unhappy coincidence. Hope everyone has a good week!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 30/10/2017 14:08

Avon it's always hard to get back into it after a break. I had the weekend off and I've put on over 2lbs. I hope you feel better soon. I always think it's harder to eat healthily when you have a cold and feel miserable. Flowers

Oblomov17 · 01/11/2017 07:50

Bear, I’m not even Monica Tap dancing. I’m not doing very well, at all. I keep scoffing wine and crisps.
Your cake looks amazing.

Oblomov17 · 01/11/2017 08:07

Finally got off my arse and made myself a salad, with last nights gammon.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 01/11/2017 12:04

That looks tasty Oblomov . What type of dressing did you use? I've been going through a soup phase but think I might go back to salads for lunch.
Our house is full of Hallowe'en treats and cakes. I'm not sure I'm going to be strong enough to resist. . .

Oblomov17 · 01/11/2017 13:49

Place, it’s just a bottle of Sainsbury’s chilli, soy and ginger dressing. It says it’s only 22 calories on MFP. Hmm

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 01/11/2017 16:34

That sounds nice especially at 22 calories Grin
I had a tiny sliver of chocolate fudge cake today but since it's now November, I think I'm going to set myself a new target for Christmas.
I can't afford to start Christmas at my current weight in case I put lots on over the holidays. If I can lose another 5 lbs from where I am now then it gives me a bit of leeway over Christmas. I'm going to start being strict and increase my walking/exercising again. Operation #ChristmasStrictClub starts now!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 01/11/2017 16:35

Way too many mentions of Christmas in that post - sorry!

JigglyTuff · 01/11/2017 16:51

After a week of total gluttony (I ate two pizzas!) I appear to have only put on 4 lbs which is much better than expected. Am strict club until 11 November when I’m going to a 50th birthday party.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/11/2017 17:20

Hi all. I've been very busy the last few days, but that's resulted in my not eating a huge amount although I have had some carbs too. Definitely thinking Christmas strict club! We're invited to a friend's party next Saturday and it's black tie so I have declined- I cannot face being all trussed up in a too tight cocktail dress in the local boozer?? But it's definitely made me think about the inevitable Christmas dos that I will go to and what I will wear.

Tonight's tea- pork chops and these steam veg sachets I got from asda which are green veg with herb butter, Bung in the microwave. It's a quick tea but should be BSD friendly.

Glad you're all doing ok. Oblomov your salad looks lovely. I really struggle with salads in the cold weather, but can't face soup every day yet!

I’m eating this. £1.79 from Aldi.
So delicious, I’m staggered!

wigwaminamustardmill · 02/11/2017 12:46

Hi, can I join please? I’m on day 6 of the BSD and am definitely on strict club at the moment! 6 week’s to the big Christmas do, my dress won’t zip up and I really don’t want to buy a bigger one.

Sunshineandshopping · 02/11/2017 19:57

oblomov does that have carbs in it? Looks like couscous? I love goats cheese and beetroot!
I have been good about no carbs, not so bothered about calories, aside from yesterday when I had a beef roll for lunch Confused
Last time I weighed myself I had lost 4lbs, i need to weigh in again I think.
wigwam I’m the same, I’ve decided I can’t afford a new wardrobe so weight loss it must be.
I must say I haven’t been hungry.

wigwaminamustardmill · 03/11/2017 00:25

I haven't been hungry either, I'm amazed as I expected to be starving on 800 calories.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/11/2017 08:06

Weighed in this morning and I've lost about 5lb! I haven't been obsessing this week, had a very busy few days and had noticed I was eating much less and not grazing so much. All good,

Today I'm helping my friend who is a bit of a hoarder clean and organise her house. It's been 7 long years in the planning, so god knows what will be there to greet me when I get there!

OP posts:
APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 03/11/2017 09:40

Welcome wigwam !
That's a brilliant loss bear - maybe not obsessing and being busy is the key. If it is then you'll have another good day today cleaning and organising. I'm imagining you in an apron and rubber gloves (like Kim and Aggie) but perhaps you're more minimalist and chic like Marie Kondo? Either way, good luck!
