Losing a small amount- harder?

If I give you figures here you will probably think I'm being ridiculous. Firstly I am totally aware that I am definitely not overweight. I have never been overweight so have never really needed to diet, probably a combination of luck, (mostly) healthy vegetarian diet and being fairly active.

Now I've hit 40 and I am still a healthy weight for my height.
BUT! I have the dreaded mumtum with overhang on my jeans. Its not the end of the world but I would like to reduce the wobbly belly and general chunkiness around my middle. I only need to lose about half a stone and I think I would see a difference.

I have tried over the past two weeks to really cut back on junk food (biscuits etc), reduce portion sizes especially carbs, eat lots of lower carb fruit and veg, increase activity level. It has made no difference at all in terms of weight or inches. Does anyone have any advice about losing a small amount? I have read repeatedly that the less you have to lose the harder it is?!

I just realised I have foolishly put this in the 5:2 thread instead of the general lose weight/ fitness section but maybe you wise mumsnetters can still give me some tips over here!

Placemarking! I've just posted something similar in weight loss chat. I lost a few pounds easily but have now plateaud. I know my weight sounds fine on paper and my BMI looks quite good (so feel a bit silly making a fuss), but I have considerable belly fat and really want rid!
