Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Tips
You may get headaches at first so drink lots of water, possibly try mixing a teaspoon of marmite into boiled water and having that to replenish salts etc
Exercise: aim for 10,000 steps a day and ideally consider adding in resistance training and some HIIT workouts.
Fasting some people find it helpful to have an eating window e.g 14:10 – 14 hours fasting and 10 hours to fit in the 800 cals. Avoid snacking and grazing - split your calories into 2 or 3 meals for potentially better weightloss.
Use the menu plans in the book or plan ahead on My fitness pal app

Foods to avoid
Sugar, sweets, milk chocolate, biscuits, cake
White bread, pasta, rice, chips etc
Processed Junky food with added sugar
Alcohol, fizzy drinks, juice etc
Diet foods, artificially low fat foods
High sugar fruit

Foods to eat
Full fat Natural/ Greek yoghurt
Fish in particular oily fish, Meat, eggs, nuts seeds
Non starchy veg, cauliflower, leafy greens, avocados, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli etc
Olive oil, coconut oil, rapseed oil

Berries and low sugar fruit (2 portions or less)
Lentils, beans etc

Foods to include in small amounts and be careful of
Full fat dairy is fine but some people do better with less of this
Starch veg such as sweet potatoes and squash
Wholegrains (quinoa, buckwheat etc) limit to 2 tablespoons
Low carb crackers and breads made with coconut flour, almond flour etc

Phase 2/ 3
for more sustainable continued weight loss and then maintenance add in some days with higher calories but still lower carbs, and have 2 – 5 days at 800 calories. Continue to avoid processed simple carbs like white bread, chocolate etc but possibly add in small amounts of dark chocolate and red wine or less sugary alcohol if you wish to.

Well I wore the black dress in the end but it was certainly less stomach-holding-in them last year. Well, maybe.

If I honest, I've not stuck to it because it's hard - and especially at this time of year - we're all tired, both DH and I have been abroad for work and there are hundreds of parties.

BUT. I had soup and salmon tonight rather than pate plus toast and turkey with trimmings. So this has made me more aware of what I'm eating and quite frankly I'd be delighted to end the year without putting on more weight.

So I'll be sensible for now and back on it in the New Year. But good luck for everyone with more willpower in the interim!

BatFacedGirl · 11/12/2016 10:29

Hello all

It's Charlie on a name change - I do so every month or so : )

Well I'm a bit cross as I'm looking at a stay the same this week unless I can sneak one measly pound by weigh in tomorrow. It'll be my week 7 weigh in and possibly the first week I'll not have lost an ounce. Grrrrr.

I'll try and eat 'light' today and see what I can do. It's a 21lb loss so far anyway which I'm pleased with.

I agree with some others, I've struggled for the past few days and I know I've gone over my calories recently. I was craving chocolate last night so HAD to have a protein bar and then some raspberries with a tablespoon of double cream. It didn't help but at least it filled me up.

How is everyone? I'm determined to keep going on plan until Christmas Eve

APlaceOnTheCouch · 11/12/2016 11:11

Well done on resisting the chocolate BatFaced/ Charlie.

I was down 2lbs when I weighed in yesterday. I'm not exactly sure how or why so think it's more likely to be a blip than a genuine drop. I went to the party last night but wasn't drinking alcohol as I had to drive so from a BSD pov it was a success!

BatFacedGirl · 11/12/2016 11:21

Ooh well done!

I think I'm suffering from a little dieting fatigue to be honest.

BeyondTheHarpy · 11/12/2016 11:28

Feeling too crappy to even weigh here atm. Trying not to go loopy food wise though. Which isn't hard, I don't have the energy to eat much

yumyumpoppycat · 11/12/2016 22:44

Beyond hope you are feeling better soon.

Charlie you have done so well. I think everyone had at least 1 stay the same week so just feel proud of how well you have done.

I screwed up a bit today really. Its not all bad though as sounds like lots of people are having nsv in making some good food choices... if we can all stay the same or even just gain a few lbs over xmas we will all be doing splendidly!

Hello all how's tricks?

Managed to sneak in with a week seven 1lb off! So that is 22lbs in 7 weeks and I'm into my final week now

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/12/2016 09:56

Flowers Beyond just eat whatever you want until you get your strength back. Recovering takes a lot of calories so forget about BSD for now. I hope you feel better soon.

BatFaced well done on your losses! 22lbs in 7 weeks is fab!

TOTM here (which explains the random 2lbs drop and means it probably will be back on by the end of the week) so I'm craving sweets and chocolate. I even bought tablet this morning Shock but I haven't opened it . . .yet .

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/12/2016 09:59

BSD is hard at this time of year Sad
Today, I've already had a roll on sausage and a cream cake; and I've put on 4lbs since Saturday!
I'm going to try to get lots of walking in this weekend to try to compensate for my carb-fest.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/12/2016 14:43

It is tough this time of year. I was 1lb down this morning but really that's as likely to be due to putting the scales in a different place than any diet!
I'm just trying to keep bsd in my mind- having my dinner without the carbs for example and having a bit more salad and a bit less of other stuff with lunch. Normally it's just the weekends that I struggle with, but at this time of year there's opportunities to eat every day especially when I buy lebkuchen? from lidl and I'm the only one who likes them. Dh and I always give up alcohol in January as a bit of a detox so I know that will make it easier too. It's a shame because I've been doing so much physical graft these last few months, doing loads of decorating and being generally very busy, that if I'd been on plan too I might have really reaped the benefit. I think that's what's kept me at maintain rather than gain though!
When ds started school I promised myself that I would do the school runs on foot every day come rain or shine until Christmas. it's the last day of term tomorrow and I've done it, twice a day every day up a bloody steep hill, so a little nsv for me.
Underneath my layer of winter blubber I have a body like Paula radcliffe's I'm sure!!

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 15/12/2016 14:51

APlace I'm not convinced - I'm eating what I like and still feel shit, maybe I should be on 800 cal! Grin

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/12/2016 17:29

bear well done on the school run walk That's a brilliant change to your routine and will have a big impact once you're back on BSD all the time.
I have written today off and am now eating a giant bag of Doritos.
I'll order a BSD-friendly online shop tonight and start again tomorrow. I have ordered a size 10 dress for Christmas so I can't keep stuffing myself with carbs or it won't fit! it might not fit anyway as after I'd ordered, I read a review that said they size very small

yumyumpoppycat · 15/12/2016 18:36

Well done Bear, you might have found all the hard graft would have made the 800 too hard. I went off diet when painting and decorating this year as soo hungry!

Weigh in tomorrow should have been a good one but just had lots a few chocolate Brazil nuts so not so sure now. I was happy to be back in the 134s so feel like I have made some progress over the past months even if 4lbs isn't a lot on paper. If I maintain around the 135 mark by Jan I will be ecstatic!

Aplace fingers crossed for the dress. Clothes buying is frustrating I bought a size 12 dress from H&M which was way too small but a medium jumper was too big. Also some size 10 jeans from new look which were TINY where usually a 10 is fine. At least I had £70 back on my credit card with all the too small clothes!

Bat well done on your extra 1lb Grin kepts you at a loss for every week.

Beyond there is something in that actually but just do whatever feels right.

yumyum clothes sizing is a nightmare. There's no consistency at all. In tops, I am currently wearing size 8s, size 10s and size 12s. Coats range from size 10s to size 14s, likewise jeans.
The size 10 Christmas dress has arrived but I'm too scared to try it on - this weekend has involved too many chocolates tbh Blush

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/12/2016 14:39

should say 'there's no consistency at all'

yumyumpoppycat · 19/12/2016 21:44

We have had a christmasy weekend away so I am nervous about tomorrows weigh in in too aplace! Try on the dress - bet it looks lovely.

8-14 Shock that is crazy. It is especially hard when people want to buy clothes as christmasy pressies.

I am hoping an 800 fast day tomorrow and maybe one more this week - maybe on friday will help mitigate christmas indulgence Xmas Hmm

Hi all, just checking in. I'm sort of coasting through at the moment. Meals are generally ok, but the occasional mince pie has sneaked in too. I've got a beef and bean stew slow cooking and I've just made a pot of chicken and veg soup to do today's and tomorrow lunch.
I totally agree with clothes shopping, it's a nightmare. I tend to find my shops that fit me and only really buy from there- so fat face, joules, Boden etc all their 12's generally fit, (although they hammer the wallet spectacularly) and avoid the trendy shops like Topshop and DPs etc because I find it too depressing when I can't even squeeze a 16 past my calves. No wonder so many young girls think they are fat. My god, if I was as slim now as I was when I first thought I was fat I'd be thrilled!
For anyone interested, fat face have a range of really nice flared jeans that are pretty stretchy and very nice on. I got a pair at £18 down from £45 in the sale yesterday at an outlet store and they are lovely.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/12/2016 19:05

bear it sounds like you are doing well. Your stew sounds lovely. Thanks for the tip about Fat Face jeans. I'll have a look over Christmas.
I was doing OK today but then DH brought in chocolates...

diamantegal · 22/12/2016 00:03

Another one just checking in. Have given up for now but will be back on it in the New Year and don't want to lose my place in the thread! Weight loss has stayed firm at 4lbs but that's okay for now - I'll have a concerted effort once my hundreds of Christmas meals are out the way.

Although went for dinner last night and failed miserably to eat dessert - I was happy to binge but I just didn't enjoy it - maybe I've retrained my taste buds to not enjoy pure sugar.

Not that it's stopping me drinking the glass of rose that's next to me though....!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 22/12/2016 06:43

diamante that's great that you've managed to maintain. I have been avoiding the scales and eating erratically but, on the plus side, I have been walking lots. We have parties today and tomorrow where I'm hoping not to eat too much but will probably veer off BSD.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 25/12/2016 02:00

Happy Christmas wonderful BSD-ers! I hope you all have a fabulous time🎄

Merry Christmas everyone!

A bit of bad news from chez diamante - one of our cats died before Christmas. We had two (mother and son) but he was very much my cat and had spent the last 12 years on my lap/sleeping on my bed. Even DH shed a tear, which I hadn't seen in the 18 years I've known him.

So Christmas sort of sucked, and I make no apologies for comfort eating and drinking. Fortunately DS (6) was very stoical about the whole thing, and now we're back from the in-laws (where it happened) I think we're all ready to make a bit of a fresh start. So not dieting just yet, but think we'll be out of the house a lot over the rest of this week, which hopefully means a good bit of exercise of nothing else.

Oh, and self-indulgent pic attached. He really was a lovely cat. Sad

diamante Im sorry to hear about your cat. He was beautiful and, after 12 years, must have been a much loved member of the family Flowers
