This thread is for those of us who have been practicing IF (Intermittent Fasting) for quite a while and are now at, or nearing, their target healthy weight.
It's also for anyone who is doing it for the health benefits alone.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?
How do we ensure that this WOL keeps us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?
How do we ensure that we keep ourselves looking great rather than just thin?

Many of us have been maintaining at our original goal weight for many months, and others are joining all the time.
Obviously, the more the merrier!
It is also worth considering whether a second, leaner target might be achievable.

You'll find the first three maintenance threads and all the main 5:2 threads for posters practicing IF to lose weight here Fasting / 5:2 on the diet forum. We're currently on thread no. 35, but there is a new main thread every 2-3 weeks.

There are three other associated threads:
This one, which is an absolute goldmine of Tips and Links on how to practice IF, and the research behind it.

And here is a treasure trove of 5:2 recipes, mostly low calorie for fasting days, but there are also recipes for when you want to treat yourself. And, now we're maintaining, we'll need more of these!

Since I started the last Maintainers thread the importance of exercise has come to the fore, as part of our general health and to help weight loss. BigChocFrenzys thread is here

If I weren't a lady Smile I'd say exactly where you should ram return that sausage to him.

Southeastdweller · 25/06/2014 20:37

Hi all.

Anglaise I'm glad you're feeling OK now you're rid of that twonk and I know what you mean about exercise helping with things like this.

Any news from mocnk and filly?

ClockWatchingLady · 26/06/2014 14:03

Glad you've been feeling good Anglaise - onwards and upwards.

I'm still struggling in one way with this fasting malarkey. Fast days are fine (just do one day per week). But for the rest of the week I make up the deficit (which in itself is good - don't want to lose any weight) with chocolate fingers, cream from the tub(!), endless egg custard tarts... and this can't be good, can it?! It is delicious though...
I need to go down the nuts/seeds route, but what I really want after fasting is total junk. Am I a sugar addict??

ClockWatchingLady · 26/06/2014 14:10

To add to the previous post, I get genuine enjoyment out of the junk. I don't eat it all at once or stuff it down or anything - I eat it quite slowly and mindfully, whenever I feel like it. So it doesn't actually FEEL unhealthy, unless I think about how much crap I'm consuming. Do you think the fasting is still worth it if I do this?

BsshBosh · 26/06/2014 14:44

Clock why don't you browse the Eating Better threads in the food section:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/food_and_recipes/2044442-Come-forward-EatBetterers-and-unite-its-the-second-happy-healthy-eating-thread

It's full of Mumsnetters (including myself) who want to eat less junk and eat more healthily yet not fixate on weightloss (hence it's in the food and not diet section of Talk).

ClockWatchingLady · 26/06/2014 17:25

Thank you BsshBosh - I'll go and have a look at that.

What I need is something that tastes like egg custard tarts and has similar energy content, but has all the nutritional value of purple sprouting brocolli.... that definitely exist, right? Grin

Anglaise1 · 26/06/2014 18:39

CWL Bssh's thread is excellent.
I like cakes sometimes and indulge, but when I a cake them I skip a meal (lunch or dinner) to compensate...likewise with other unhealthy things. That way I don't indulge in them too often Wink

BsshBosh · 26/06/2014 20:02

It's all about balance... we just need to tip the balance in favour of the healthy stuff. I still love my cakes and biscuits etc but eat them guiltfree because I don't eat them every day.

TalkinPeace · 26/06/2014 21:04

whereas I'd planned to fast today but just got back from a meal out at the Thai restaurant in Winchester !

Last day of Rhine hols, so since we're such a cultured thread, here is the lovely Russian chapel in Darmstadt.

Also cultural are my favourite Flammkuchen (Tarte Flambé)
< reveals shameless indulgence in chips & ketchup >
Smile
Tomorrow will be an FD, back to healthier eating.

I should be fasting today, but DD made me lunch and who am I to refuse!

Southeastdweller · 30/06/2014 18:48

Back in London from two days in fab Bristol where much delicious food was eaten but (hopefully) countered by tons of exercise. Will weigh-in tomorrow morning.

Anglaise1 · 30/06/2014 20:27

BCF the Rhine looks lovely as does the Flammluchen, I hope you had a really good holiday there. Germany is on my List of places to go if I ever manage to have a proper holiday.
here did you stay and what did you do in Bristol, South? It is my university place and I stayed on a while after that too. Very happy memories, but it has probably changed a lot since I left in 1994.
TIP you can always fast again tomorrow, very impressed that your daughter made you lunch!

BetsyBell · 30/06/2014 21:12

That looks lovely BCF, and so do the chips right now! Feeling very hungry after fasted TKD training.

Tip is being regularly attacked by delicious foods on FDs

AmericasTorturedBrow · 01/07/2014 10:04

oh southeast I'm heading to Bristol next week and can't wait! will be sans kiddos as well

I am in major overeating mode and can't seem to stop it. belly overriding everything else and I know it's because I have this wedding on Saturday in which I'm a bridesmaid. So doing my best to at least fit in 16hours fasting every day. But I'm eating to the point of being in pain every day...stupid stupid stupid

MrsFlorrick · 01/07/2014 17:39

Evening everyone Grin (waves)

Just popping in.
Still maintaining which is great. And despite indulgences at weekends. Ah the great thing about 5:2. Wink

Today was the DC school annual trip to the seaside Confused. I've spent the day with 80 children under 10. Argh.
If DH wasn't away over night I would hit the wine whilst rocking quietly in a dark corner.....

Tomorrow is end of term play. The drama teacher came up to me today and said I was in for a big treat tomorrow as DD was fantastic (proud boasty mummy pfb moment Grin)

Can't believe I turn 41 this week Confused. In honor of that DH actually pulled out all the stops and booked a weekend at Four Seasons in Hampshire for me and my best friend. We lay in the spa and ate lots. It was my first night away from DS since he was born. And my second ever from DD. so big news for me. It was lovely.

And apparently he is taking me out for dinner on Saturday as well. Somewhere naice apparently.

Back to DC dinner time... Will pop back in later to catch up.

Southeastdweller · 01/07/2014 18:50

Hi all. Stayed the same despite eating a fair bit in Bristol this weekend Smile. Anglaise I was there for a couple of days pure R&R and stayed at the Doubletree near Temple Meads. The city is so vibrant with lots of stuff to do, the city centre is spread out (compared to other British cities) so it's quite relaxing even on Saturdays, and the foodie scene there is great, as is the nightlife. I could definitely relocate to Bristol if the right job came along.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 02/07/2014 07:54

I adore Bristol, I was at uni there and still have friends living there so it's a a great excuse to visit. I'd move back in a heartbeat if there was any work for DH and I.

MrsF how funny, I'm a wedding at the Four Seasons Hampshire this weekend, and due to being a bridesmaid am lucky enough to be staying overnight, can't wait!!

TalkinPeace · 02/07/2014 14:33

LOL at everybody coming to Dogmersfield : I drive around there regularly for work.

Happy Birthday Mrs F - you are only 8 years younger than me now!

Brizzle is indeed great fun : the way the waterfront area is being regenerated is exciting. DH and I stayed in Clifton in the spring and had a blast.

DD made me lunch because she is bored out of her mind having finished school.

I'm failing on fasts because I'm stressed beyond belief with work. I'll allow nervous energy to burn off the calories for now!

BigChocFrenzy · 03/07/2014 00:11

Happy birthday MrsF (just a few mins too late !)
Flowers
Hope you had plenty of Wine to recover from 80 DCs at the seaside

Anglaise1 · 03/07/2014 07:02

No fasting either here, but weight moreorless stable. Not pining for ex at all and sleeping better than I have done for ages, which probably goes to show what a negative influence he was in my life.
Doing a 27km trail race on Sunday morning and have registered for the Rome marathon in March 2015 (there are a few people from the club going). It was my goal to run a marathon before I hit the big 5-0 in November 2015 so fingers crossed that there are no injury problems and that will be the one!

MrsFlorrick · 03/07/2014 08:19

Americas. Grin Enjoy. It's good. The spa is fantastic. Rooms are great and service generally good. Food is good too. Have afternoon tea if you can. It's lovely.

Not that you will have much time for spa as you're part of the bridal party Grin

Thanks so much for birthday wishes. Thanks
The DC took me out for dinner at Prezzo for pizza (their choice). They were so happy and they bought me 100 beautiful roses (its possible they think I'm 100 but hey ho).
Also added a very beautiful Mulberry handbag and two pairs of their shoes to my extensive collection. Courtesy of DH. And money from MIL to spend frivolously (her words Grin). Still awaiting pressies arriving with post from my part of the Continent so more to come. Wink

All in all a good day. And the DC school summer production was amazing. DS didn't sing along but went on in costume and Dd sang her heart out. Not terribly melodic more shouty and she was proud that she was the loudest one.

Today is DDs ballet production. Bit worried what this entails as she seems unable to describe it for me. Something about purple?!Shock

Yes TIP I've edged closer to your age and also closer to moving up a tick box on formsConfused

Back to the lovely weather...

BigChocFrenzy · 03/07/2014 11:18

Anglaise Sleeping better without him is yet more proof you are better off without a knobhead.

The trail run and the marathon sound exciting. I'm inspired by your list of what to do before your 50th. I must think of something (not TOO painful) before my 6-0

Yikes, I'm 58 today. Must be a mistake, surely ?
Confused
