This thread is for those of us who have been practicing IF (Intermittent Fasting) for quite a while and are now at, or nearing, their target healthy weight.
It's also for anyone who is doing it for the health benefits alone.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?
How do we ensure that this WOL keeps us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?
How do we ensure that we keep ourselves looking great rather than just thin?

Many of us have been maintaining at our original goal weight for many months, and others are joining all the time.
Obviously, the more the merrier!
It is also worth considering whether a second, leaner target might be achievable.

You'll find the first three maintenance threads and all the main 5:2 threads for posters practicing IF to lose weight here Fasting / 5:2 on the diet forum. We're currently on thread no. 35, but there is a new main thread every 2-3 weeks.

There are three other associated threads:
This one, which is an absolute goldmine of Tips and Links on how to practice IF, and the research behind it.

And here is a treasure trove of 5:2 recipes, mostly low calorie for fasting days, but there are also recipes for when you want to treat yourself. And, now we're maintaining, we'll need more of these!

Since I started the last Maintainers thread the importance of exercise has come to the fore, as part of our general health and to help weight loss. BigChocFrenzys thread is here

I read Brad Pillon's pdf and subscribe to his blog, it is interesting as he places so much emphasis on fitness and muscle, not just being thin. Big Choc have you seen this from Brad on women's ideal body measurement?

Anglaise1 · 20/06/2014 08:18

B&W yes, it often easier to eat nothing than have a taste...that is why I prefer on fast days to eat nothing until the evening, I've less willpower once something has passed my lips! Hope you get back on track this week, it doesn't take long to lose a little Wink

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2014 07:49

Anglaise I've seen the ideal of that "Venus Body" floating arounf the Internet and tbh found it a turnoff, especially his claim that a lot of muscle on an older woman looks ageing (for obv reasons !).

However, I like his ideas on fasting and strength training.
Also, his research on bacteria and fat looks fascinating. I've found a download of his "Flat Belly" and must examine it later, especially the controversial recommendation I heard about broccoli.

BetsyBell · 21/06/2014 08:50

As an already small-waisted person I'm a bit Shock at the suggestion that apparently it should be 2 inches smaller, according to that "Venus Body" link. It hasn't been that small since my mid-teens - y'know, when I was still growing... I also didn't like the perfect aesthetics stuff. But I do like his health stuff very much, and I guess the aesthetics thing is what many people strive for.

Personally, I'm going to stick with health as a primary factor and looking better as a happy by-product.

For those of you not on BC's exercise thread I would like to proudly announce that I got my next belt at Tae Kwon Do yesterday evening Grin For a brief period there is a picture on my profile of me looking happy, sweaty and relieved.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/06/2014 09:50

Betsy totally kicks ass ! Grin
That future black belt is massive motivation to keep building power and strength.

I want to slowly lose an inch from my waist, but only the thin layer of fat: I have visible slabs of muscle there, which limits a really tiny waist. I usually win the abs contests at my gyms and they are my best muscle group.
My core strength also enables the other lifting I do.
Ok, so I can't aim for Venus

TalkinPeace · 21/06/2014 12:34

Betsy you look awesome. And I bet nobody who knows you there belives you were ever other than uber lean.

BetsyBell · 21/06/2014 13:29

I do have a certain reputation as a lean, mean fighting machine - I don't think anyone quite believes I've been anything but... Grin As an orange belt, I am now allowed to spar with others, there is fear from most of the others but I'm lovely really

I've got some grading pictures and there's quite a good one of me mid kick I've posted up. These kicks (front snap) felt really wrong at the time but the photos say otherwise! That's a good kick.

Anglaise1 · 21/06/2014 17:27

Betsy you look fab, especially on the kick photo. Congratulations on your orange belt - and for your next ones!

Anglaise1 · 22/06/2014 17:24

MOCNK are you around? Wondered how things were going with your BF.
I've finally called time with my BF who was and ex and he is now again. He went to Italy for a week with friends for a Vespa world day meeting. Told me he'd done quite a lot of 'shopping' during the trip and had bought some little gifts for loved ones. I didn't expect much, but the piece of cheese with the price still on it, a packet of breadsticks and a half eaten italian sausage wrapped in foil that I received was more of an insult than a gift - clearly just leftovers from his holiday!!!
He was ill on Thursday night and too tired to see me Friday night. I got up early Saturday and went to his house and sure enough, his ex girlfriend's car was on the drive. I took a photo, emailed it to him and said we were finished. I got back an email saying 'ok'. I meant nothing to him.
So I need to get over him yet again...at least I've had plenty of practice. Still feel like s**t though Sad it will take time.
Hope everyone else had a better weekend Wink

BetsyBell · 22/06/2014 18:27

Sorry to hear that anglaise. Please let me know if you need anyone to Tae Kwon Do kick his cheating, lying, cheapskate ass... I can get a posse of feminist warriors together pdq.

TalkinPeace · 22/06/2014 19:48

((( Anglaise ))) He does not deserve you.

OP posts:
Anglaise1 · 22/06/2014 21:11

Betsy I'd love to see that, especially as he professes to be a black belt in judo (not sure I believe him as truth isn't his strong point).
TIP I've been a very stupid girl and deserve all I get for ignoring the signs for so long and believing his VERY convincing lies. A first class manipulator, and I was very easy to manipulate!

Breadandwine · 22/06/2014 21:44

((( Anglaise )))

You're well rid!

BigChocFrenzy · 22/06/2014 22:24

(({ Anglaise }))
Betsy and I are the 5:2 Heavy Mob: TaeKwondo and boxing respectively.
We pay this charmer a visit, he'd be sneezing up testicle fragments all week.
Angry
You are a strong woman, conned by a worthless weak man.
Move on to more important matters in your life.

BsshBosh · 23/06/2014 06:42

Delurking to give Anglaise a big hug. What an idiot he is; you are better off without him and deserve so much better!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 23/06/2014 14:56

was just checking in with everyone but also massively delurking for (((((hugs)))) to Anglaise...he's a fucking numpty and you are well, well rid. Arsehole. Grrrr so angry for you. I don't do martial arts but I could bike him down on my road bike if you like?!

Had a seriously overindulgent week last week, got to get into a bridesmaid dress in just under two weeks so strict eating (well, no sugar, no alcohol and limited white carbs and animail produce). Will try and squeeze in a fast day or two but agree I do best when I just hold off eating as long as poss, and I don't think I' need to lose any weight, just maintain - hopefully the alcohol ban alone will help. Was so good to see 133lbs on the scales after the ride, I really want to make that my top end of normal

ClockWatchingLady · 23/06/2014 15:23

Anglaise, as others have said, well done for dumping ex's sorry arse. I know it doesn't make the pain any better, it sounds like such a good strong decision.

Can I ask about avocados, please? Do people find them filling? Or an expensive use of FD calories? Thank you Smile

ClockWatchingLady · 23/06/2014 15:24

Sorry, misprint - "I know it doesn't make the pain any better, but it sounds like such a good strong decision".

BetsyBell · 23/06/2014 19:24

ClockWL I avoid avocados on FDs, but eat them with gusto on NFDs along with all the other high calorie but super-nutritious foods I crave on eating days.

MyWonderfulMimi · 23/06/2014 20:24

(((((Anglaise))))

I'm glad to be fasting today as I've been away for a week staying with a friend who doesn't cook, so we ate out every day! It feels so good to be back in control (although I do miss the several glasses of Prosecco every evening!)

ClockWatchingLady · 23/06/2014 21:39

Sounds like good advice Betsy - thank you.

MrsFlorrick · 23/06/2014 21:59

Anglaise. Shock And WineWineWine and hugs for you.

Don't even know what to say. You're clearly well rid. And in time you will be happy to be rid. Just words now and I know they won't make you feel better just now.

Can't actually believe the half eaten sausage bit. Wtaf. Confused

Still maintaining and still lurking around. DH away a lot so DC are keeping me busy and away from
Proper MNing Wink

Anglaise1 · 24/06/2014 06:43

Thanks everyone, so much Thanks Thanks. I'm feeling OK this time and WILL be strong - MrsF remembering that half eaten sausage is very helpful in the recovery process Wink.
I'd been expecting the relationship to finish properly for the last few weeks, but just wanted that final bit of proof to show him so he couldn't deny his infidelity and lies and turn everything round to be my fault because "I'm so jealous and suspicious" as he always said (I'm not, or was never before being with him, but I was right!). He was a masterful gaslighter. It's actually a relief not to wonder constantly what he is up to when he isn't at work or with me. No trust = no relationship.
Having a week off fasting, best friend from England over this weekend so looking forward to that. And of course running helps a lot too.
CWL I love avocados too, but like almonds, it is best to save them for NFDs.

Eatriskier · 24/06/2014 07:51

What a knob anglaise. Store that half eaten sausage so if he comes back around you can savagely beat him with it Angry

MrsFlorrick · 24/06/2014 08:07

Eatriskier. Grin Indeed!
