This thread is for those of us who have been practicing IF (Intermittent Fasting) for quite a while and are now at, or nearing, their target healthy weight.
It's also for anyone who is doing it for the health benefits alone.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?
How do we ensure that this WOL keeps us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?
How do we ensure that we keep ourselves looking great rather than just thin?

Many of us have been maintaining at our original goal weight for many months, and others are joining all the time.
Obviously, the more the merrier!
It is also worth considering whether a second, leaner target might be achievable.

You'll find the first three maintenance threads and all the main 5:2 threads for posters practicing IF to lose weight here Fasting / 5:2 on the diet forum. We're currently on thread no. 35, but there is a new main thread every 2-3 weeks.

There are three other associated threads:
This one, which is an absolute goldmine of Tips and Links on how to practice IF, and the research behind it.

And here is a treasure trove of 5:2 recipes, mostly low calorie for fasting days, but there are also recipes for when you want to treat yourself. And, now we're maintaining, we'll need more of these!

Since I started the last Maintainers thread the importance of exercise has come to the fore, as part of our general health and to help weight loss. BigChocFrenzys thread is here

Happy birthday ATB. May is obviously a good month Grin

MyWonderfulMimi · 12/05/2014 18:10

oops, wrong thread. Sorry

MyWonderfulMimi · 12/05/2014 18:41

Ooops again, sorry. I WAS on the right thread! Fuzzy fast day head should improve now I've had dinner!

Anglaise yes, I normally fast Monday and Wednesday and sometimes a mini fast on a Friday if I want some extra calories for the weekend. It's rare for me not to complete a fast day once I've started. I'm lucky I never seem to feel hungry while fasting -it's just head hunger occasionally.

TalkinPeace · 12/05/2014 18:44

Swam this morning, was going to swim this evening but mowed the lawn instead.
Should have fasted today but forgot to fix my pot of carrots so ended up buying a bit of lunch
BLECH
feeling flabby but have SO much work on till mid june.

((( MrsF ))) about cars. I drive Saabs and am often amused by how much the other car can get damaged without marking mine.

Happy birthday ATB - could you send us some WARM sunshine. THis cold wind is a drag.

Well I luff the scales this morning.. 5lbs off in a week! ( though im not sure I trust them.. ) and due to only effectively losing 1lb the week before last I still have another 4 to get back to my last years 'maintenance weight' of 10.3 and 7 to get back to my lowest weight .. but this is good..back to 4:3 and yesterday was a fast day so a yummy eating day today , but ive been careful not to exceed my TDEE (just had my dinner and am still about 300 under it .. I shall keep reminding myself of this all evening..)

Happy Birthday ATB whats a Korean Spa like? Also can we have the recipe for lemon avocado sauce? sounds yum..

Filly its funny that sometimes we still suddenly realise we can do what we like ( well within reason) now we are adults! . I recently boughtan utterly impractical but lovely suede fringed jacket - just like one i wanted when i was a teenager!

Laska42 · 12/05/2014 19:24

Tip Miso Soup schets in your bag are your friend.. also I keep a knife and peeler in my locker at work , so if i forget .. I pop out and buy some carrots , celery and cue and snack on those ...

(sorry not SNACK of course, - forbidden word!) Munch with the mug of soup..

Eatriskier · 12/05/2014 19:55

mrsF its rough down saaarrrrrffff london init? glad your new car and you were unhurt.

Happy birthday atb

filly wow - they are some leggings! I agree with laska completely - my purchase is the sort of jelly shoes I wore in the 90s.

TalkinPeace · 12/05/2014 20:21

laska the trouble is I work in a different place every day - often other people's houses so I have to fit round them.

MrsF I remember some pretty ruff areas when I was growing up near Looishum. Hope DCs were OK

filly Those leggings are FAB.

Been at work since 8.30am and still here so will catch up tomorrow but just wanted to report a new taste sensation - dates with dark chocolate in the middle, something Betsy tried the weekend just gone. Absolutely divine!

TalkinPeace · 12/05/2014 22:00

nearly as dangerous as dates with stilton inside

OP posts:
Laska42 · 12/05/2014 22:05

and dates stuffed with brazil nuts (my Mums Christmas favourite, only she can crack a brazil and get it out whole!)

Just heard from Cyclistist! . he is recomitting also and has fasted today! .. and Im naming and shaming him to get him back on the boards.. Come on mate!

Breadandwine · 13/05/2014 01:30

Come on Cyclist we need to address the gender balance on here. I know one guy is worth ** amount of women, but the more the merrier!

(Disclaimer: I'm presently halfway through a bottle of red. I know it's a FD for me, but I'm maintaining and I can do what the hell I like! So there!)

Grin Grin

Eatriskier · 13/05/2014 08:51

B&W I had an unexpected spot of very minor 'surgery' yesterday and my theory was the same as your wine one, though mine excused me half a Charbonnel et Walker dark choc egg and 6 violet and rose creams. I feel I'm finally maintaining well thank you very much and some days you just need to break the rules a little! Hope the head isn't too bad today.

Breadandwine · 13/05/2014 11:46

The head's fine, Eat, thanks. I'm lucky in that department, I seriously cannot remember the last time I had a hangover.

(Perhaps I should test that - go for the full bottle next time and see how I feel! Grin Nah, couldn't do that, I'd worry about my limits too much!)

I'm still finding the freedom this WOL gives us a little heady! It's extremely liberating to be able to unshackle the reins every now and again, and not worry about the consequences!

BigChocFrenzy · 13/05/2014 12:35

^^

Post-hols, just caught up with last week's posts.

Metella has been posting on main thread about a "cheese cave".
Now I read here about whole rooms dedicated to my fav food groups: cheese, chocolate, nut butters ....
^^

And you were planning to keep me out !
Shock Angry
Don't mess with a post-meno woman who has sniffed choc in the air.
Angry

Oh poor you MrsF. Sounds like she's jealous and totally psycho.
She's not worth thinking about; just give that big strong LandRover a pat and move on.

BigChocFrenzy · 13/05/2014 12:40

Yes, B&W this WOE is life-changing.
We can indulge (usually sensibly), have a normal work / social life, while we are healthier and slimmer than before.
Win-win.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 13/05/2014 14:58

thanks for birthday wishes all - it was lovely. I declined champagne and cupcakes at brunch then met up with my other birthday twin who'd baked a cake for us both, only half a cup of sugar to a million almonds (turned into paste) and a thousand eggs so reckoned it was healthy enough - well half of it became my dinner...biked about 20miles in all yesterday though so reckoned I earnt it.

Korean spas are quite something - more like Moroccon Hamamms than traditional western spas. There are hot jacuzzis and freezing cold plunge pools, dry saunas and steam rooms and other saunas ined with different minerals (the one we go to has a yellow mud room and a pink seal salt room) to bring out different toxins - you wander from place to place stark bollock naked. We also booked a scrub and a massage - the Korean version is HARDCORE, you're basically on a slab of stone and pushed and pummelled and scrubbed and destroyed but feel amazing afterwards (despite lack of scented candles and whale music)

Lemon avocado pasta sauce is from my new fav vegan cookbook:

process 1-2 cloves garlic and 1/4 cup fresh basil
Add to the processor: 4-6teaspoons lemon juice, 1tblespn olive oil, 1 ripe medium avocado, 1 tblespoon water and process til thick and creamy. Add water til desired consistency

The DC love it, I do it with spaghetti and usually spiralize some courgettes too which they think is additional spaghetti and gobble it up. Unveganise it and add sauteed prawns

def fasting today - not sure what a portion of the above will be so will just sustain myself on black coffee til dinnertime

frenchfancy · 13/05/2014 17:32

A belated happy birthday ATB

Be careful filly riding lessons are the start of something very expensive. I started about 5 years ago, and we now own not one but 2 horses (the first one had to be retired). We love them to bits, but it is certainly life changing.

Fillybuster · 13/05/2014 17:32

Happy birthday ATB :D

Fillybuster · 13/05/2014 17:35

Oh god, FF - my childhood dream was always to own a horse Envy You look fab, btw Grin

Impressed by your restrain ATB - I need more of that. V successful fast yesterday, but now locked into a 2 day overnight workshop which comes complete with pastries, sarnies, crisps, cookies and I have shown no self control whatsoever. Total fail!

AmericasTorturedBrow · 13/05/2014 20:19

I'm going alcohol free til the weekend of the ride (gotta have send off champers!), I was going to have just one night drinking on my birthday then started thinking about doing one night a week and realised it was a slippery slope and much better just to go total ban - made it easier to resist cakes and snacks too, and will have to keep it up for 4 weeks afterwards in order to squeeze into a bridesmaid dress!

BigChocFrenzy · 13/05/2014 21:23

Oops, just spotted you had a birthday yesterday, ATB. Belated congratulations.
That Korean spa sounds wonderfully invigorating and imaginative.
I discovered spas and thermal baths in Germany. Now cba to cover my bits in a spa, so never tried a UK version.

Laska42 · 13/05/2014 22:47

Thanks ATB will try that sauce - would have to be on a feed day though, your sauce recipe comes to about 600 cals! (if it truly does use tablespoon of olive oil)

Do fancy the Korean spa (except for wandering around naked bit.. id be too inhibited...would ok if i could take a sarong or towel ..) would love the scrub.. sometimes I can get DH to give me a dead sea salt and coconut oil back scrub.. its great .

B&W still the only bloke here then..

Laska42 · 13/05/2014 23:09

I had a greatet weekend with Marcus but have now got his cold.! Bah! am sniffly and have a really sore throat.. however I decided that i although wouldnt torture myself if i felt like i needed to eat ,id still attempt a fast .. and in the end have managed a pretty good fast day (only being 150 cals over) which is not bad considering..

Next one Thursday!.. im feeling right back in the fasting mindset which is great .. Dont know now why let it go . its just a head thing ( i know that , i really do know that ).. Ah well , soon that extra muffin will be gone again..)

Right... paracetamol, something for the throat , mint tea and bed..

Heres to feeling better in the morning.. its an eating day and I've been invited out to lunch !

AmericasTorturedBrow · 13/05/2014 23:30

Last time I did the recipe it did do an absolute shit ton of sauce to be honest - think 2 meals in the end, one for 4adults and 2 children and the other was 3 adults. Although yes I can get rid of the olive oil, prob doesn't need it
