Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Help - confused

Right, just started on Monday and jumped right in without really reading much. How much should I be eating on my non fast days? Trying to follow the information thread but not sure what I'm doing.

On Non-fast-days (NFDs), eat around your maintenance level, sometimes referred to as TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure).

The book (and other generalised sources) approximate that to 2000 cals for a female, but individuals vary, and if you're small or short, it's probably less than that. I eat around 1500 on NFDs, a bit more at weekends.

There is a thread on here called Read This First which is most useful.

Thanks Melanie. I wondered if they meant the recommended daily 2000 calories or if it was less than that and depending on the individuals size and excerise etc. 2000 seems a lot after fasting. About 1500 to 1700 seems more than enough as long as you are not eating out or drinking ect.

You need to look at the link in the read me thread. TDEE varies depending on size and activity level. Mine is about 2150. I don't always eat that on weekdays, but nearly always do at weekends.

It told you what the TDEE is but not the BMR (which really annoyed me).

TDEE is the total daily energy expenditure - so how many calories you use each day.

BMR is the basic metabolic rate - which is how many calories your body would use if you were in a coma.
